View Full Version : So Rock is wrestling/teaming with Cena at Survivor Series?

haven't watched any WWE stuff for weeks so I'm "out of the loop" a bit with the storylines and I don't read the front page/it's likeness so I don't know the latest "rumours" but I don't think this has been referenced on TV yet. Rock just posted on Facebook:

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/321495_10150388230044384_406433779383_10140053_1927681265_n.jpg

The Rock posted the following on his Twitter:

<a href="http://ow.ly/i/hrI1" target="_blank"><img src="http://static.ow.ly/photos/normal/hrI1.jpg" alt="Owly Images" /></a>

So, it looks like Rock is wrestling at Survivor Series, and teaming with Cena.

Is this really happening? Who are they facing? Will it be a Survivor Series match or a regular tag?

Discuss.

Beat me by a minute.

But yeah, this hasn't been referenced on TV. Though the local Survivor Series commercial mentioned Rock and Cena joining forces, and made it sound like Rock was wrestling. But I thought it was just a thing to push the tickets and were going to bait and switch with Rock just showing up.

So, will it be a Survivor Series match? Why are they even teaming? I can't see, at this point, any team that could match them, unless they do something like heel Hunter and Punk or something.

Not sure how smart this is, really. I guess it does kickstart the feud, but I'm not a fan of Rock wrestling before Mania. It would have made it that much more special if he hadn't stepped into the ring.

If they want to TRY to turn Rock, they could book a match (Cena/Rock vs Miz/R-Truth), and then have Rock no show. Maybe appear live via satellite saying he's busy, the people don't deserve him yet, etc, etc.

Then have someone else come out and team with Cena so he doesn't squash Miz and R-Truth on his own... Probably Punk.

That wording is pretty specific, nothing like the posters we usually get. Hopefully, these two are co-captains of a team.

With the CeNation behind him and against The Rock and the fans behind The Rock and against Cena it feels like you don't need to turn anyone heel. They are essentially both to the other side thus I feel like they won't be wrestling each other at all until Mania and if they are on the show together then it's gonna be a team up thing.

Xero
09-16-2011, 03:38 PM
Right. But my feeling is that Rock should not be wrestling AT ALL until Mania. It doesn't matter if it has absolutely nothing to do with Cena. This is one of those things that you got to let simmer and stew. Part of the allure to the Mania match is that it's Rock's first match back in 7 years, and keeping him out of the ring is absolutely the best way to go.

If he's in Cena's corner or something, fine. But I don't want him wrestling. It's another case of WWE blowing their load. Not as bad as some things, but it definitely fits the category.

Mr. Pierre

It's gonna be awesome to have him and Cena on the same team. Finally a Survivor Series style tag match that people will actually care about.

I think it's a smart move to have Rock get in front of a live audience wrestling before his huge match at Mania so he can get his timing back. I'm no wrestler, but I have a feeling it's not quite like riding a bike.

Also putting him in a tag match still protects The Rock a ton with several others working around him. WWE probably doesn't want to build the Cena/Rock encounter with "Rock's first match back" lingering over it because it may overshadow the feud/build.

I'm all for it :y: Can't wait

this would be a very very bad idea to have weeks and months of talk of rock returning to wrestle, get a ton of build up and then no show (kayfabe) to the event..there would be many angry ppv buyers over that

This was my thought exactly..... I assume that he would appear at MSG, as his career started at Survivor Series in New York back in '96..... I'm still hoping for only an in-ring segment, maybe some shenanigans in Cena's match.....

Mr. Pierre
09-16-2011, 06:56 PM
This is the next logical step in the feud though. If he comes out and just talks smack and closes the segment with a Rock Bottom or finisher exchange, it's pretty much just running-in-place from WrestleMania.

The Rock being ice cold for 8 years and then being in the main event of Mania is asking for a lot without any true warm up. This is the perfect warm up IMO. There's also a huge part of the fanbase that's never seen The Rock wrestle or look like a threat. So why not get him in the ring and showcase him before the big show? Not every WM buyer is going to be a loyal smark from the Attitude Era. With that, I don't think Rock wrestling once or twice before Mania will affect the buys negatively at all

A part of me wants to say Rock leaked the graphic when he shouldn't have, but he's a lot smarter than that.

They've been doing this angle mostly on the internet anyway, so this does make sense.

I'm guessing the main two guys opposing them will be Miz and R-Truth.

I think Punk, Trips, Nash and Del Rio will be kept seperate from Cena and Rock around that point.

It gives them that moment where Rock and Triple-H face off, which would be epic and smooth the transition for Rock.

The Rock has been teasing or mentioning on Twitter he was coming back in some form to continue his feud with Cena late in the year either as another verbal war or potential match.

Although I think the only time it was referenced on tv might have been the RAW after Mania or the following week where he promised to face Cena at Mania but would also show up before the end of the year.

Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Nash, Mason Ryan (with Michael Cole), The Miz, & Triple-H vs. Big Show, CM Punk, John Cena, Mick Foley, & The Rock

Del Rio and Cena continue their feud over the title, Nash returns and reunites with a heel Triple-H to continue their feud with Punk, Ryan returns on RAW sometime with Cole as his manager and starts toward a massive push, Foley returns and reunites with Rock.

Throw in a returning Show on the face side and Miz on the heel side, we're ready to go.

This really confuses me. Now I'm not against the Rock wrestling at SS, but along side Cena? that's where it gets weird.

Maybe the anonymous GM will make them team together. I don't know, it seems really odd since they are opponents at WM28 and dislike each other very much.

IF they really want buyrates and ratings, the match will be for "control" of WWE.

Team Vince: The Rock, John Cena, CM Punk, Mick Foley, The Undertaker
Team HHH: Triple H, Kevin Nash, Batista, Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels.

Yah I said it.

After everything CM Punk has said about John Cena and The Rock, the idea of him joining their SS team is ridiculous. If he does, it should be in absolute protest and he should screw both of them over so that their team loses.

I will change my avatar to an anus for a month if it's not R-Truth and Miz as the main opposition to Rock and Cena. They don't need "megastars" to face them and I very much doubt Punk, Del Rio etc will be involved in this match. Loopydate is probably the closest to what I think it will end up being.

Not enough star power to counter Cena&Rock.

That's the point. The match isn't about their opponents, it's about their conflict. Bigger stars will get lost in the shuffle during the build if they have to go up against Cena and Rock. That said, they could make a new star if somebody could get in some good offense before the inevitable Cena-and-Rock-survive-then-have-a-staredown-and-fade-to-black.

09-17-2011, 10:01 AM
Team Cena vs. Team Rock would be the better way to go. Then every week leading up to the match Rock and Cena could unveil their next team member. Ending in a big ol team brawl the week before the ppv. Rock gets Trips,Nash,Kane, and Big Show.Cena gets Punk,Bryan,Morrison, and Big Zeke. Kind of like a Team Attitude Era v. Team PG thing.

I think the idea is that they want to tease Rock/Cena for WrestleMania, but they don't want them to actually face each other until then. So they have them team up, argue, create more animosity, but their names never show up on the opposite sides of the marquee until Mania time.

They may also be doing this to "test out" a smart crowd. Obviously, they have a good idea of what's going to happen (Rock fans will crush any Cena fans), but they want to see it in action to prepare for Mania. And there's no better place than the Garden to do it.

It does bring an interesting dynamic, with them being on the same side. I think, though, they should have had them on either side leading a team. You don't have either one in the ring at the same time, until the end. And, while you normally shouldn't end a PPV like this, just as they're about to lock up, someone comes in and interferes. For example, you can have whoever the COO is come out and stop it, because they want to save it for Mania. Then the COO gets beaten down by the two and they have a staredown.

Just a poor example, but I think if they could have put them on opposite sides and never had them touch it would have added to the Mania match.

Mr. C
09-18-2011, 11:35 PM
If I was booking, I’d have another huge match like the main event of 2001. Big Show, Booker T, Jericho, Kane, Angle, RVD, Shane, Austin, Rock, Undertaker. Looking back at the names in that match, it’s crazy.
