View Full Version : Are Employee vs Boss storylines necessary anymore?

My feeling is that the Employee vs Boss storyline has existed in a billion reincarnations ever since Austin/McMahon and every single one is more formulaic than the one before it. Are we ever going to get away from this current formula? Isn't it a little silly to be carrying on with different forms of a story that will NEVER ever be even close to topping the McMahon/Austin feud that they originated from?

What do you think of the Boss/disgruntled wrestler charade that's been going on for 10 years? Post your best boss/wrestler storylines and the worst ones as well.

And how many fucking authority positions are they going to come up with? COO, Commissioner, GM, 50% stock holder...

Don't forget being in TNA or WCW and just coming out on the mic and saying "I'm calling the shots!"

In response to the thread, I'm bored with all the employee/boss storylines, but the CM Punk/Triple H one has been great though, and definitely has a believable story behind it (Punk being a pain in the ass etc).

Not nearly as bad as TNA and the "Director of Authority" thing they had with Dusty.

The current one with Punk makes more sense than any other one ever has.

Austin/McMahon was a lot of fun to watch, but Vince should have just fired Austin and been done with him if he was really that much of a pain in the ass.

With Punk, he was a disgruntled employee who left once his contract was up, only to be brought back by 'popular demand'. He may have talked shit about Triple H, but he hasn't filled his car with cement or sprayed him with a beer hose, etc. It all just feels a lot more organic than anything like this has before.

I DO like authority v. authority angles where both sides are making power plays, but the chance for that is pretty rare anymore.

Also, Punk vs Triple H adds the dynamic that the authority figure can believably kick the ass of anybody in the company.

To be fair, I think everyone loves this Punk storyline much more due to the fact that Punk is involved rather than it being incredible writing wise. Let's face it, it was hastily put together, the heat was built rather quickly, Nash sending himself a text message was silly, and the Punk/Cena angle was cut off at the knee with very little fluidity. I think that the internet fans being mentioned makes us all fap around to it a bit. Don't get me wrong, the promo build has been great, but let's be real here.

That's fine. I was just saying that it was more believable than Austin/McMahon.

Meh, the end result is Punk vs HHH. They could have replaced their promos with farting contests and a storyline of there being a sale on beans at Best Buy and I would buy NOC still. So pumped.

It's an exception that proves the rule. Punk is great and Triple H is known as a big heel on most parts of the internet. Though this one is slightly different because neither person is truly the heel.

The fans still go crazy for both Triple H and CM Punk at least right now. This could turn into a traditional heel/face thing very quickly at the PPV. For right now the fans seem to be cheering for both people even though Punk is getting the loudest pops.

I can't wait if Triple H turns heel on the PPV because he is one of my favorite heels of all time. He really gets sick, twisted, evil and maniacal. I would like to see how CM Punk feels about and reacts to getting the real Triple H if the heel turn happens.

Why on earth would they sell beans at Best Buy?

And the storm today has taken out my dish so I'll be wwe.coming it up if it doesn't come back by then.

See, the story makes even less sense and I would still buy it.

TRIPLE H: ...and that's the problem with guys like you, CM Punk. Instead of paying full price for your beans at a regular grocery store like any established star, you have to wait until they are inexplicably on sale at an electronics store!

CM PUNK: I buy my beans at Best Buy BECAUSE they're at Best Buy! Best Buy started selling beans because they listened to what their fans WANTED! But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you Paul Levesque?

You better hope that Hogan doesn't read that!

Let's not forget that Punk would point out that nowhere, INCLUDING Best Buy, had his WWE Ice Cream Bars. And that would be Trips' fault for not listening to the fans and Pedigreeing the president of Good Humour Ice Cream or whatever company used to make them.

That has to be the gayest thing I've ever read. Gayer than Seth being gangbanged by four dudes singing "YMCA."

They were never necessary, but they've lost most of their relevance. However, they should totally have the mexican help revolt against the WWE. Stages could mysteriously fall apart, drugs could be undelivered, and Linda's face could take on its true form. Scarier than you might think.

One thing I've learnt from this storyline is how to pronounce Trip's surname.

Therefore it's been very necessary.

Boss vs subordinate feuds are necessary as it let's people live vicariously through the employee as we can all relate to having a piece of crap boss that we want to pour beer over and flip off. But we can't do that because the real world is fake and you would get fired or arrested. But in the world of rasslin it's all good to make the boss piss himself.

Not gonna deny, I always thought it would be pronounced 'Le-Vask'.

Yeah, these heel authority figures have run their course. Eric Bischoff had no idea what he had started when he went heel and joined the NWO.

Orton vs. the McMahon Family was awesome. One of the best in a while.

Can't really grade Punk/Triple H until after NOC.

Shame their big Wrestlemania match didn't live up to the hype though.

I think this Triple H/CM Punk storyline has got legs, and I think it's just getting started. I'm fully expecting Kevin Nash to help out his buddy at WrestleMania, with John Laurinaitis being fired from his position (after Nash reveals a Johnny Ace plot to screw Triple H). Nash begs Triple H to stop being so fair, and to Kliq the WWE up.
