Yesterday, various music news sites had spread like wildfire as they said that Van Halen had signed a deal with Sony's Columbia Records, after spending nearly 35 years with Warner Bros. Their upcoming album will be their first studio album since 1998's Van Halen III.

The new album will mark the return of David Lee Roth on vocals and the debut of Eddie Van Halen's son and Alex Van Halen's nephew Wolfgang Van Halen on bass.

No release date has been confirmed.

I know. It sucks that Eddie and Alex kicked Michael Anthony out of the band. I did not like that move, as much as anybody else does.

I've been a Van Halen fan since I was 10 years old (1994). I have every CD they ever released (all originals, no remasters). However, I am very skeptical of how the new album would sound on tape/disc/record.

The lead singer change is normal as usual, but for the first time, the new rhythm section is going to be tested.

Was there a reason why they kicked out Michael Anthony, other than to let Wolfgang into the band?

Apparently, Eddie wants to jam with his son. However, I also heard that Eddie and Alex were not happy with Michael playing with Sammy Hagar during the band's inactivity. And I don't blame Mike for not wanting to sit at home, doing nothing. He wants to go out and play music.

It's both of those. Mike Anthony didn't play bass on the new tracks they put out in 2004 and I'd be surprised if Eddie didn't play the bass sections on the new album.

Seems like a bullshit way to treat your friend who you've been jamming with since the 70s.

I know. That's arguably the lowest thing they ever done.

Sammy and Mike were the only two that went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Yeah, I remember that back in 2007. Eddie's absence was understandable as he was in rehab to finally kick his alcohol habit, but there was no reason for Alex and Dave not to go.

I'll tell you one thing, though, expect the same thing to happen when Guns N' Roses gets inducted.

Also, how can you kick out someone with a Jack Daniels bass?

It's funny how somebody who exerts so much effort calling everybody who likes certain bands or companies fat losers and virgins spends his whole time on message boards trolling. God bless the internet, without which, Gertner would have no escape from getting beat up and picked on in the real world.

Honestly, a true Van Halen fan never chooses one singer over another. And I believe that's a major problem with a lot of fans, because everybody's divided 50/50 between Dave and Sammy, and Gary Cherone was never accepted. Well, I for one, accepted all 3 singers, because each singer brought something different to the table.

Pretty much the most pointless thread ever. Nobody cares about Van Gaylen.

r u serious

honestly quite like the hagar stuff but van halen 3 was awful. and while the singers aren't always to blame the standard of songwriting coming from EVH was way higher when DLR was singing.

Let me explain. Sure, the album with Gary didn't do as well as the other 2 did, but it was risk, you know. It was basically a hit or miss, where it's not going to be a huge success and it's not going to be a terrible failure.

In a way, the Gary Cherone-Van Halen collaboration reminds me of when Dave Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

yeah but gary cherone isn't a bad singer. the material on 3 was just awful though.
