View Full Version : Who Owns the Move?

Next Big Thing
09-25-2011, 06:42 PM
There are certain moves that will always be associated with one guy, like the Pedigree or Figure 4, but certain finishers or signature moves overlap among top wrestlers and I was wondering who you guys subconsciously associate a move with when you see it used by guys who don't normally use it.

Like when Shawn would apply the Crossface or Rock would apply the Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter you might immediately think of Benoit and Bret or Sting. Or how Johnny Ace may have used the Cutter first, but more people are likely to be reminded of DDP or Orton when they see it. It might be due to liking one guy over the other or generational reasons. Just curious.

Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter:
Sting
or
Bret

Spear:
Goldberg
or
Edge

Frog Splash:
RVD
or
Eddie Guerrero

Multiple German Suplexes::
Chris Benoit
or
Kurt Angle

450 Splash:
2 Cold Scorpio/Flash Funk
or
Justin Gabriel

Crucifix Slam:
Sheamus
or
Scott Hall

Bret

Edge - Goldie's was great, but Edge used it longer and had more memorable instances (spearing Hardy from a ladder, spearing Foley through the flaming table, etc.)

RVD (barely)

Benoit

Juvy (SWERVE!)

Hall

It hurt me to exclude the Juice, but I still remember the ending to this match:

Frog Splash: Eddie Guerrero

Multiple German Suplexes: Chris Benoit

450 Splash: neither, Juvy is who I think of

Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter: Bret Hart, and mainly because Sting started using that stupid Death Drop shit and Bret stuck to the Sharpshooter throughout his career. Hated seeing the Rock and his fucked up version.

Spear: Goldberg. There was nothing intimidating or awesome about Edge spearing someone as a finish, unless said someone was hanging from a ladder. He had better finishes.

Frog Splash: Eddie. No reason, just who I think of when I see someone do it. Maybe it's because he's dead.

Multiple German Suplexes: Benoit. See above.

450 Splash: ERREBODY HERE COMES 2 COLD SCORPIO! (Cue horrible 90's WCW rap beat)

Crucifix Slam: Razor's Edge....only name I know it as.

Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter:
Bret

Spear:
Goldberg

Frog Splash:
Eddie Guerrero (Mainly because RVD has so many other moves he's known for probably more than this.)

Multiple German Suplexes::
...seriously?

450 Splash:
2 Cold Scorpio/Flash Funk
or
Justin Gabriel

None of the above because neither of these guys is well-known enough outside of the internet for have their names be synonymous with a move. It would be very easy for anyone to come into WWE and make this move their own.

Crucifix Slam:
Scott Hall for now, but could change if Sheamus really takes off and becomes a long-term guy.

Also "Too Cold Scorpio" is a totally gay-ass retarded name for a wrestler.

Me too. No Art Barr reference?

I was considering Art Barr for the Frog Splash, as well as Riki Choshu for the Sharpshooter, but many would complain.

To be fair....Eddie and RVD do the Frog Splash different. I really don't see them as the same move.

Just my opinion.

Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter:
Bret

Spear:
Goldberg - Loved Rhino's Gore more than the Spear but Goldberg made his spear become more associated with himself than Edge who used it more towards the later part of his career.

Frog Splash:
Eddie Guerrero

Multiple German Suplexes::
Chris Benoit

450 Splash:
2 Cold Scorpio/Flash Funk

Crucifix Slam:
Scott Hall - Sheamus "Celtic Cross" could easily be replaceable with his "Brogue Kick" in terms of association since he has ended matches with the kick while Hall made sure the "Razor's/Outsider's Edge" became the signature for him ending a match.

Scorpion Deathlock/Sharpshooter:
Bret - Just cause I watched WWF before WCW but I identify it with Bret more so. Sting's signature move for me was always the Scorpion Deathdrop.

Spear:
Edge - as someone mentioned earlier, Edge has more iconic moments with the Spear than Goldberg. In saying that Rhyno always had the best Spear.

Frog Splash:
Eddie Guerrero - To be honest I almost consider his and RVD's as different moves due to the huge differences between them.

Multiple German Suplexes::
Chris Benoit - No question about it.

450 Splash:
Justin Gabriel - Never seen anyone do it as well and as consistently as Gabriel.

Crucifix Slam:
Scott Hall - It's Razor Ramon's finisher and it's called the Razor's Edge.

How about the Chokeslam or Shooting Star Press? I would go with the Undertaker and Evan Bourne (even though Billy Kidman was the first I had ever seen use it regularly) respectively.

I totally agree. I especially love the Frankensteiner counter into a Lion Tamer he did at Souled Out against Mysterio. That was amazing.

Who owns the ARMBAR??

There's several variations, but to name a few

Wakigatame (Fujiwara Armbar)
Jujigatame (Cross Armbreaker)
Keylock
Kimura (Chickenwing Armlock)
Straight Armbar, usually preceeded by an Armdrag

Here's the sickest Fujiwara Armbar ever applied!!!
