New York (September 27, 2011) — The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 were announced today. The nominees are:

· Donovan
· Eric B. & Rakim
· Guns 'N Roses
· Heart
· Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
· Freddie King
· Laura Nyro
· Red Hot Chili Peppers
· Rufus with Chaka Khan
· The Small Faces/The Faces
· The Spinners
· Donna Summer
· War

“The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means,” said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, who will select artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 27th Annual Induction Ceremony. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2012 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1986.



Assuming 7 inductees, I support Beasties, Cure, Donovan, Joan, RHCP, Rufus, Faces.


And once again, Rush is left off the ballot.

I am disappointed that guys like Rush, KISS, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Europe, and Loudness are continually given the shaft.

Because they are officially eligible, I say the Melvins deserve consideration. If for no other reason, their influence on their best known Roadie: Kurt Cobain. And there's MANY more reason why they should be considered, when you take into account their influence on bands like Soundgarden, Tool, Crowbar, Eyehategod, Dillinger Escape Plan, Hank Williams III (Disc 2 of "Straight to Hell" was the first ever Country Music Noise Album), Sun O))), and Mastodon.

Similarly, I have to mention Thin Lizzy, KISS (kind of duh, if you have any respect for rock theatrics), Deep Purple (another Heavy Metal cornerstone, alongside Sabbath), Rush (I mean, seriously), Black Flag (very influential in Hardcore, and the "My War" album helped laid the foundation for grunge as we know it), Weird Al (the longest running novelty act of all time), Judas Priest and Iron Maiden (both duh, as they paved the way for hundreds of heavy metal bands.)
