I got it a year later in 97. Didn't have a game for it for a few months and just rented them. Enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing, GoldenEye, and other gems. 4plyr gaming was hype. The first time we went four players was in Hexen. So-so game, but the experience was great. Loved the console.

I got mine for Christmas in '98. I got a PlayStation the year before, but it messed up a few months later when my nephew messed the sensor up. The first game I played on the console was Ocarina of Time. I absolutely hated it at first, since I was used to the original Zelda titles. I remember being blown away by the system (and other systems from that generation) because everything was so "realistic" and graphics could never get any better.
I honestly believe that had it not been for Final Fantasy VII and Gran Turismo being PlayStation exclusives, the N64 would have come out on top.
Here's my top 10 favorite N64 games:

1.) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2.) Mario Kart 64
3.) WWF No Mercy
4.) StarFox 64
5.) Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
6.) Shadowman
7.) Waverace 64
8.) Diddy Kong Racing
9.) Killer Instinct Gold
10.) Goldeneye

The one thing that comes to mind about N64 is multiplayer.
Remember spending endless weekends with friends playing Mario Kart, No Mercy and Goldeneye. It was magical. A fight even broke out once over a game of Goldeneye.

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros, Ocarina Of Time, Mario Kart 64.

Good times, good damn times.

I remember opening up presents for Christmas, on the N64 cover was a Stormtrooper. I opened it and was like "What is this....a Star Wars thing....NINTENDO SIXTY FOUR!"

I remember multiplayer Goldeneye (still is awesome if you have it) and having all the wrestling games. Also, renting a game from the video store every week.

I never had Mario Kart, though. What the hell was wrong with me?

Some underrated games for N64:

Road Rash (fuck yeah)
Winback
Ken Griffey's Baseball
Destruction Derby
All Star Baseball 99
Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey
Perfect Dark
Duke Nukem (I used to laugh so friggen much playing this game with my brother and friends)
Mario Party (only a good mulitplayer)
San Francisco Rush (RUSSHHHHH)
Mission: Impossible

Mario 64 will always be my favorite Mario game. Still one of the best 3D platformers of all time.

Probably my favorite system I ever owned and remember getting the system for Christmas in 1998. I didn't have the crazy "NINTENDO SIXTY FOUR!" moment because I knew I was getting it for Christmas unlike the NES years before.

Also remember having the choice of either NBA Courtside, Ken Griffey's Baseball, or Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a gift from my mom for the first game. I ended up going with the NBA game.

Perfect Dark ended up becoming my favorite game for the system with Conkers Bad Fur Day providing the most laughs and Wrestlemania 2000 being the most played for 4-player with my cousins.

I remember many multiplayer games of Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros, and WCW/nWo Revenge. Mario Party as well, in the later days. I remember Mario Party being the demise of several controllers because of its "spin the control stick as fast as you can" games.

I never actually had it, but I fondly remember 1080 Snowboarding as well in the early days.

I remember buying Ocarina of Time at the Comic Book Store of all places.

I never had WCW/nWo World Tour... but my friend who didn't like wrestling had it for some reason. He enjoyed it greatly. I remember out first time playing, we had like an epic 60 minute match between Sting (me) and Eric Bischoff (him). We taped it on the VCR for some reason. Wonder if he still has it. :shifty:

I think it is the best multiplayer system ever created. So many good multiplayer games.

I have just about all the wrestling games for it, plus all the Mortal Kombats, Road Rash, Waverace and Killer Instinct Gold.

I enjoyed Quest 64.

Oooh, and that one multiplayer game.... what's it called.... it was an Arcade Game first.... Some fantasy deal. Hack and Slash fun. Really spacing on the name here.

n64 doesn't really feel old to me :'(

mario 64 never gets the praise it deserves considering how big a leap forward it was at the time. me and mates had shitloads of fun playing wwf warzone back before no mercy came out :'( starfox (or lylat wars as it was known over here, god knows why) was amazing multiplayer too. and mario kart :'( and no mercy :'(

also had my first proper alcoholic experience (i think) to goldeneye. my friends put me off that game though as they were such nerds they played it all weekend long. i don't think they even stopped to sleep.

I got it for my birthday in 1997 and spent a good deal of my time on it before I found TPWW. I pretty much just played the games everyone else has already mentioned, as well as some games I rented that I long forget anything about. Snowboard Kid 64 is one that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, I just remember that it had the most difficult controls I'd ever encountered on a game. Also Doom 64, which I spent many hours on and never got past the first level. I also remember being at my friend's house when he rented Superman 64 and being annoyed that he was hogging it the whole time, trying to fly through the loops.

Was just throwing down on some Mario Golf, No Mercy, and Mario Kart last weekend. It's amazing how well the gameplay holds up and how fun this system is to this day. The multi-player is unmatched.

I don't think I've ever played any game as much as I played No Mercy 64. It was essentially the perfect game for a wrestling fan, and still ranks right up there with Smackdown: HCTP, and absolutely destroys the most recent slew of shitty SDvRAW titles.

I also remember having a contest with my friend in 5th grade over who could beat Super Mario 64 the fastest. After school we would call each other and press "start" on our system at the same time, and play for exactly 2 hours before calling again to shut down.

We both got to the last Bowser fight at the same time and played while on speakerphone with each other. I remember beating him just barely before he did and him screaming "NOOOOO!" like Darth Vader as I picked up the victory.

Without a doubt. So many hours playing Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Party with friends among other games.

All your stories sound made up.

Either you're a liar, or just a horrible story teller.

I remember really wanting one at the time, but didnt get it as it was too "expensive". I am kinda glad I didnt thoug because most of the great N64 games seem to be multiplayer focused...

I got my N64 solely to play WCW/nWo Revenge, which I earlier played in some video game store or something.

Then I got Wrestlemania 2k, but never got No Mercy as it was never released in Europe (continental at least).

I also had Hexen, Zelda: Ocarina of Time and I think that's it.

Gauntlet?

Yeah. That was the one.

Also, I must say that I did not care for Perfect Dark.

got one Christmas 1999 specifically for WWF WrestleMania 2000. That and WCW/nWo Revenge were the only games I ever owned for it and got rid of it about a year later.

Don't really know what about my story seems "made up" to you. The idea of two 5th graders competing over a video game isn't really that far out there. Maybe you just spent your childhood competing against your imaginary friends or something, I DUNNO.

I did have a schoolmate in 5th grade who claimed he could beat Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 30 minutes. He said he'd written to Nintendo and they sent him a copy without the cut scenes in it.

He was a liar, but that is a true story.

Once or twice a year I usually host an all day n64 videogame tournament. We get 8 people, 2 tvs going. Play a bunch of games and get drunk for old times. Stopped about a year ago though cause people just bitch and moan too much. No one was ever happy with the game selections, some don't like sports game, some don't like wrestling, others don't like goldeneye. Was just annoying cause they were stupid and couldn't realize that everyone didn't like every game we played. People been asking that I do it again though so maybe....

Loved the fact there was no loading times on the N64 too. Shame it made for some 'blocky' graphics, but was awesome not having to sit around waiting for ages to play a game.

The fact that the N64 is 15 years old is starting to make me feel old...:(
