Total Annihilation. Still one of the best to this day.

DL everything under the "TA & Core Contingency and Battle Tactics" category first to get the game and all the expansions. Then dl the 3.1 patch at the top, then dl the 500 unit patch on the bottom and you should be all set.

The thing I hate about free games is people bitch about other players like they paid $40 to do so.

Wow that game's free now? That game was the shit a few years ago. It ruled because they'd constantly release new units and maps on the website.

I loved that game. Playing on the metal maps was awesome 'cause you could just extract it right from the map. Fun fun game.

It's a RTS game, like Command & Conquer, Starcraft, etc

It's nothing all that spectacular imo. It's really fun, the units are all 3d models and all (I think it was one of the first RTS games to have 3d units), and the vast selection of units is quite impressive. Granted, I find most of them to be useless, but it's still cool to have variety. What's really cool is that when you start out, you just have your Commander. He's basically your building unit, but he also has hellified attacks as well. If I remember correctly, the objective is to destroy your opponent's Commander.

Pretty fun game, not sure how well the expansions were though.

Ok.
On that note, Tribes and Tribes 2 are going to be free to dowload off the sierra site sometime soon!

lol at snood that game has distracted me from many an essay :(.

But yeah TA was amazing back in the day. It wiped the floor with the C&C game which was out at that time (Tiberian Sun I think - though thats not hard). You could also like salvage the debris of your defeated enemies or your own destroyed tanks and stuff. And as RDD said the support was amazing new units and maps were released like every week I think :y:. It introduced alot of new cool ideas to RTS.

IMHO, it's the best RTS type game out there that I've played. There are HUNDREDS of 3rd party units and maps you can download, give it a try it is hella fun and the graphics are decent even by todays standards
