I've always believed in Alex Smith. He's finally showing his worth on a consistent basis. But Flacco has the play off experience so I suppose I'll pick him.

Smith all day. Fitting that someone from Baltimore tilts it 6-5 against their own QB.

Take away Jim Harbaugh and Alex Smith is a joke.
Take away Cam Cameron and Joe Flacco would be great.

Bumping this since they play on Thursday..should be a deciding factor with the head to head matchup
I've already decided actually. Alex Smith.
Joe Flacco is about at the level of someone like Matt Hasselbeck, maybe a bit below. He'll be "a familiar name" that a couple of teams will probably plug in sometime down the road to manage the offense and get nine or so wins. I'm afraid Alex Smith is going to be a one season wonder, but I hope I'm wrong. He might take the 49ers to the NFC championship this year before they find themselves in the middle of the back again. I see him being one of those guys Tampa Bay or Cleveland picks up because they really need a quarterback and he had that one good season he will milk for the rest of his career, sort of like what Trent Dilfer did.

So he completed almost the same as Alex Smith and Smith was sacked 9 times? Yeah. You've definitely proved your point.

I dont know how anyone could have watched that game and came out of it with the idea that Alex smith is a better QB than Flacco.
I'll accept them being even, but no way Smith is better.
Droford gets the last laugh.

Flacco is getting better. Not that he's bad, but he is really inconsistent. I wouldn't mind having a better QB. But who wouldn't. I realize that Rodgers is a freak of nature, but when I look at the two side by side, meh.
Tori Smith is starting to come into his own though and having more than Boldin to throw long to is really starting to show me that Flacco isn't that bad. I guess we'll see.

Wouldn't it be hillarious that this will probably be the Super Bowl QB matchup? ESPN is slobbering all over Eli vs Brady..lol
I want Eli v Brady, for the Indy economy sake.

It doesnt matter who plays in the game for the city's economy, its not like if its Ravens/49ers that no ones gonna show up for the game.
Quite honestly I dont really care about Indianapolis' economy .
It matters to the host city Droford. Use your brain. Cities don't petition to get superbowls or final fours for fun. Come on.

He could still be right. He's probably looking for a stat right now to show that Batlimore is still pretty much a lock to make it.
In the interest of being fair. I have to admit to Droford. I've really have been impressed with Joe Flacco. They need to pay the man. And he might be the best deep ball thrower in the league. And he has a ring right now. Super impressed by Joe Flacco. He's elite. He's better than Alex Smith. I'm eating crow right now.
I wouldnt go as far as saying he's the best QB in the league, but he's top 5 and maybe top 3 right now for sure. I'm really impressed with how he's carried himself about this contract. He talked it up. He said he deserves it and then he went and backed it up.
Thread can be closed now. Debate is over. Flacco shut it down.

He's better than Alex. I disagree about him being top 5. If the NFL was drafted all over again, I can definitely think of 5 QBs I'd draft over Flacco. Maybe even closer to 10. Let's try it:
Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Aaron Rogers
Drew Brees
Matt Ryan
Eli Manning
Ben Roethlisberger
Cam Newton
A case could be made for some of the rookies/first years starters this year but I'll leave them off to be fair. Still, I may rather have Luck, Wilson, or Kap. Flacco had a great postseason but let's not get crazy here

Let's not forget RG3 unless Shanahan runs the legs right out from under him.

According to Merrill Hoge, Joe Flacco is the best quarterback in the NFL. His top 5 list is composed of:
1) Joe Flacco
2) Aaron Rodgers
3) Tom Brady
4) Ben Roethlisberger
5) SUPER BOWL XLVIII MVP MATT RYAN

I see RG3 evolving into an even faster/more athletic version of Steve Young or even Donovan McNabb moreso than a Michael Vick type player who is a garbage passer that is more likely to make plays with his legs than his arms.
He just needs time to adjust.

I meant in the way the Skins call plays and don't really have the support that end up with him hurt moreso than he tries to run first like Vick does. I think he's already a much better passer than Vick. You could see him evolve like you were saying just this season alone. He started out trying to run by everyone but once he got knocked out of one of the games early this season he started to throw it more each week.
I think it was the Baltimore game, I was listening on the radio and Sonny Jurgensen kept bringing up how he hadn't run all game and how he may have to do it. Well towards the end he finally takes off and when he does he gets laid out and the backup had to come in to finish the 4th and OT and play the next game as well.

Still baffled how one would take Cam Newton over Joe Flacco right now. Flacco is definitely top tier right now, maybe top 5.
Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Peyton, Ben, Eli - I get them. Ryan? Arguable.
But Cam Newton? I like him, but you cannot be serious.

I can understand everyone on the list except for Ryan and Newton. Matt Ryan is a joke. One playoff win in 5 years, 2 of which they were #1 seeds. His stats aren't even that much better that you could overlook the poor playoff performances..

PS Flacco has more playoff wins (9) than everyone on that list except Tom Brady (17) and Roethlisberger (10)

Well, wins are not everything. Flaco has went 5 for 12 in with 70 something yards and won a playoff game. Flaco has a defense that can win games and Ryan does not.

Seriously Alex Smith is garbage. I must have made about 20 various Facebook statuses pertaining to how awful he is over the past half-decade.
Flacco isn't exactly great himself but c'mon. Smith is closer to Kevin Kolb than Tom Brady.
