View Full Version : Favorite tournaments
Was thinking about how great Survivor Series 98's Deadly Games tournament was. It was one of the best nights of the Attitude Era, I feel, and is definitely one of the best tournaments ever done, especially for a one night tournament.
So how about you? What are some of your favorite tournaments?

The traditional King of the Ring, as it was done in the 90's. On PPV, have all the matches there, and actually KING the winner, with a cape and crown.

My vote goes to King of the Ring, they should do like an FA Cup style tournament will all the roster in it.....or Bring back Brawl For All.

Deadly Games was incredible.
I also like the WCW Battle Bowl Lethal Lottery tournament they used to have.

Deadly games was an amazing ppv.I was a very big fan of the KOR where Angle lost, then went on to face Shane Mcmahon. Edge, christian,Angle and Rhino all showed up to play in their respective matches. I still believe the Angle vs. Christian match was highly underrated.
I also really liked the WCW Mayhem tournament where Bret Hart captured the championship in a match against "He who shall not be named." ya know, the dude from Edmonton. Who did a sick flying headbutt in the early rounds from atop cage onto Malenko. I'm a big fan of tournaments. A honerable mention goes to WM4 where Macho finally got the belt.Ooooooohhhhh Yeeeeaaaaaa.Pouring out some liquor for him right now.

It's not the best but deserves a mention. WM IV World Title Tournament. Gets mentioned just because Macho won it.
I'm gonna agree with the consensus here and go with Deadly Games. Twists and Turns and was really the jumping point for The Rock as a Superstar

I liked the idea of the older King of the Rings where you had to win 3 matches in one night as both a way to show only the toughest could win and give a boost in crowd reaction to the winner (crowd would be cheering more for the face winner or hate the heel winner even more).

I agree. Just win one qualifying match on a regular TV program and try to win 3 matches in one PPV.
Although, one came close to winning 4 straight in 1995.

The 1989 Starrcade round robin tournaments were pretty good, would've been even better given a little more time.
Deadly Game. Easy.
Such a great story leading into, through and out of the PPV. Probably the best night of booking in the history of wrestling for me.

The best answer to this question is: Jim Crockett, Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Crockett,_Sr._Memorial_Cup_Tag_Team_Tournament) also the intercontinental tournament in 1990 after Ultimate Warrior beat Hogan at WM 6. Mr Perfect beat Tito Santana in the finals.

The first few King of the Ring's were great. But being that the E won't do the KOTR the way it was, I'll say the Super J Cup.

My fave has to be WM IV. WrestleMania IV was just one big tournament to crown a new WWF champion after the whole Hogan/Andre/Dibiase fiasco. It seemed like the Million Dollar Man was gonna have to EARN the title, and almost did, but eventually culminated in the rise of the Macho Man(RIP), who actually kept the belt for a year after that. There was even another Hogan/Andre rematch, albeit in the second round.

True, but the round-robin tournaments normally last for days, maybe even weeks (i.e. G1 Climax, World's Strongest Tag League, Global League, Fire Festival, etc.).
