DISCUSSION - Should the WWE play up on CM Punk's latest comments towards The Rock?
What's up guys.
Long time.
Anyway - CM Punk had some less than stellar things to say about The Rock:
http://rajah.com/base/node/25100
During a recent interview with the New York Daily News to hype the new WWE '12 video game, CM Punk made some controversial comments about The Rock - and his Hollywood megastar ego.
"You know, the thing about that is, he's not around. It doesn't help morale when the guy goes right from his limo to the dressing room to the dressing room to the ring. He's very bourgeois Hollywood."
Punk thinks The Rock is back to help his own career and make sure WrestleMania is a success - without allowing any of WWE's younger stars to benefit from his return.
"He came back, he did WWE Raw after that. He said he was never gonna leave. And the next time we saw him is a month later. Yeah, it does bother me. A little hello would have been nice. He could have run by with his own entourage."
According to Punk, The Rock has made little effort to interact with the rest of WWE - and it's caused a lot of resentment in the WWE locker room.
When asked if Rock was a diva, Punk said that would be an insult to WWE's Divas.
"I can't say that. At least the WWE Divas say hi to me in the halls."
My personal opinion?
Have this play out on TV. Similar how they did with Cena and Rock......but instead of having Punk be subservient with the fans (as Cena is doing right now), have CM Punk flat out rip on the fans if they side with The Rock.
Honestly - CM Punk is better off being a heel at this stage in his career.....or a tweener at best. I firmly believe that the WWE turned him WAY too soon. I said it many years ago and I'll say it again. Garnering "face like" reactions as a heel should NOT be a cue to turn someone into a face right away. The WWE made this mistake with Lesnar in 2002, and they did the same with Orton in 2004. There are many other examples as well.
Bottom line? Let CM Punk rip on The Rock.......and the fans if they start siding with Rocky.

Exactly.... WWE already cooled off Punk involving him in the whole Kevin Nash & Triple H angle, so this would be the perfect way to build him back up..... maybe even a Title Match at Royal Rumble (that Rock would not win, due to shenanigans of some sort).....

The risk in having Rock feud with Punk is that since the fans love Punk, Rock MAY get booed...and I dont think WWE wants Rock to be heel, so...

My personal opinion?
Punk should shut the fuck up, and thank The Rock. The Rock single handedly sold Survivor Series to probably an additional 10's to 100 thousand fans. Not too mention Wrestlemania will a whole lot more buys because of The Rock.
Now I am not sure if the wrestlers get a bonus depending on how many buys the PPV's get, they probably don't, but they get that extra exposure to hundreds of thousands of fans who wouldn't give a shit, and wouldn't spend their money if it wasn't for The Rock.
So Like I said, he should shut the fuck up, and take adantage of the extra exposure.

I agree wake up call, but if the stories of Rock being a mega-dick backstage are true, then that changes everything.....

I believe a troll just says shit to get a rise out of people. What I said was my honest opinion.
His "run" was over two months ago. He has become stale and the "I'm gonna say whatevs the Internet Wrestling Community is thinkin about my opponent so I can get over HUGE" is getting old. It got him over in the first place because it was directed to Hunter and Cena. Now he's "pipe-bombing" Alberto Del Rio.... who cares??

Every crowd he has been in front of since May through at least last night, but if the crowd shits on him tonight I will admit you were right and I was wrong and that CM Punk is nothing but an internet darling with a smart mark mouth and a rabid fanbase of wrestling jihadists.

He may be stale to you, but Punk is over like crazy right now, so his "run" is far from over. Especially now that he's the Champ.
It's fine if you don't like Punk, but don't mix in your opinions with facts.

CM Punk will only get bigger because I got the sense that John Cena (by the way he acted, especially after the match) will turn heel because of this feud with The Rock.

Seems too soon for them to be back at it, but I wish they would have held off putting the belt on Punk. Imagine if he kept getting screwed in progressively shittier fashion until he finally won at Elimination Chamber to get a title match at WrestleMania. Last night was an awesome match and moment, but I think if they held off and really fed him chasing the belt it could have given WM another white-hot match. After last night, I am absolutely convinced that Rock/Cena will be beyond electric. I also think Cena will either turn heel in the build or finally "snap" and turn heel by just beating the shit out of The Rock with a chair or something ala Austin at WrestleMania 17. Cue Cena coming out the next night in a suit and just completely tearing into the fans for shitting on him despite him doing everything for the fans, WWE, sick children, crippled puppies, etc. Cena has an intensity that could be epic as a vicious and vengeful heel with a chip-on-his-shoulder.

However the WWE should 100% use this with this when and if Rock and Punk feud. It would be great to use.

My 4 hour drive to the Survivor Series last night was well worth it, even though I wasn't thrilled with where was my seat was located. But, for whatever its worth, I lost of lot of respect for The Rock last night and I would love to see the WWE "play up" on Punk's latest comments about him. What Punk said is very telling about The Rock, as was The Rock's promo after the Survivor Series (especially the reference to pot-smoking). I've lost a lot of respect for The Rock, and for the mindless fans who cheer for him while booing Cena and jeering him.
What?
ie; Punk is jealous that he is a lowly jobber that has to work in a dead entertainment genre while Rock is a Hollywood star gettin paid

Oh come the hell on. Peep, I usually agree with you on a lot of things around here, but you're going to hold it against Rock because he made some minor comment about pot use? Not too mention the fact that he did it off the air, after he just finished pretending to beat the hell out of a couple of guys.
Oh the poor children! I hope they never have to live in the real world where there's no drugs or alcohol, no criminals, no poverty, and no abuse or violence. Ya know what? All this criticism from the WWE locker room on The Rock is bullshit. And coming from guys like Punk and Cena? Now that is something that should be said, "come on" to. The Rock paid his dues, and worked his ass off for years to keep the business thriving and ultimately helping the WWE reach unprecedented heights.
All of this hot garbage about how The Rock is never there, this and that, although valid, is not a good argument. That's all they've got. And you know why that's all they've got? Because The Rock comes back, outperforms, out wrestles, and electrifies more in one night than anyone on the current roster does in a lifetime. Guys like Punk and Cena have jobs because of people like The Rock. How about a "Thank you Rock, because of you I get to apply my skills in the craft that is professional wrestling. I get to live my dream." You're fucking welcome. The Rock doesn't have to be there night in and night out. He did that, and he did that when it wasn't a world of social networking and it took personality AND wrestling prowess to really get over. I could go on and on.
On a side note, I am a Punk fan, he's a brilliant performer. His physique is pretty unimpressive, but that's part of his allure. His criticisms of The Rock are my only problems.

Seriously? If it took wrestling prowess, how the fuck did the Rock ever get popular?
He was a little above average in the ring at best. The only thing he really brought to the ring was charisma, and honestly, even that got stale pretty fuckin' quick once all his promos turned out to be generic, fill in the blank, same 14 catchphrases night after night rambling snooze fests.
The Rock fuckin' sucks. He sucked when he WAS in the fed, he sucks in Hollywood. (Seriously, what was the last GOOD movie he was in? Walking Tall, which was a remake?) Now he's just coasting on his nostalgia factor.
As was mentioned, if the stuff about Rock's backstage attitude is true, then it really does change everything.

if nothin comes from it though i think cm punk needs to put a lid on trashin the rock, he sounds like cena when he doe's that, an cena's cut the same promo on the rock since april an its boring, guys like orton, punk need to calm down in trashin the rock, he's earnt his spot at a wrestlemania in miami by making himself the biggest name in wrestling history

The risk in having Rock feud with Punk is that since the fans love Punk, Rock MAY get booed...and I dont think WWE wants Rock to be heel, so...
It don't think it'd work that way.
Both of them are so over right now that it'd be more like Austin vs. Rock WMX7 heat. Punk is getting more and more over, but people aren't going to forget Rock and boo him because of CM Punk.
I'd like to see these two have interaction for sure though when the timing is right.

Personally, I would be more into Punk vs. Rock than Cena vs. Rock -- but that's just me. If CM Punk is still the WWE Champion the next time The Rock shows up, I'd like to see him play "The Miz" in their little shenanigans, and interject himself in their promos and remind them that he's the WWE Champion, and WrestleMania should be about him and the WWE Title and not who is the bigger phony.
Punk would need to be edgy with his promos to hang with The Rock, and he's no doubt got a lot to say -- work or not. Punk can face whoever he faces at WrestleMania (let's say Royal Rumble Winner Randy Orton) and then in the main event, he can show up and give The Rock a GTS helping Cena win. This:
a) Protects The Rock, and leaves a question in fans' minds about who is truly better. That might be considered a negative to some, but keep in mind that The Rock has apparently agreed to more than one PPV match with the WWE in 2012.
b) Kick-start Punk vs. Rock, but would also involve John Cena. A program between those three men would be entertaining, to say the least. And, if Punk gets over enough, and Rock/Punk generates enough revenue -- the long-awaited Cena heel turn could theoretically happen, and Cena could come out of the feud completely regenerated.

Yeah I'm serious. A better question is, how the hell do you think he's even remotely good in the ring? He is nothing exceptional between the ropes. Deal with it, dipshit.
As for his catchphrases, if 20,000 idiots are entertained by the same 14 sound bites every night with some fancy fill in the blank action, let 'em. I bet they like those cards that say "Wanna know how to keep an idiot entertained for hours? Turn this over" too. Saying he's "a little above average in the ring at best" was being nice. The Rock returning to WWE: “I think it’s great. Bottom line is it’s a business. If Rock is going to put asses in seats then yay for us. There are a lot of misconceptions about how I feel about it.
His main problem is with The Rock's diva attitude backstage, which is understandable. He still appreciates what The Rock brings to the WWE as a whole.

Oh, I'd love to hear your reasoning.
Am I a troll because I got lippy with someone who got lippy with me?
Am I a troll because I'm not afraid to call The Rock's fans on the fact he's a crappy wrestler?
I'll stop guessing. Why don't you endeavor to elucidate me.
Because, going by the common definition, it doesn't fit. I don't care about provoking an emotional response. Dude was off base, I called him on it, he got an attitude, I got one back. I don't care if he blows it off as a difference of opinion or gets his panties in a twist over it.
Simple fact: I think The Rock sucks, he bores the piss out of me, I know for a fact I'm not the only person who feels that way, and I also don't care what popular opinion is. Just because masses of people agree on something doesn't actually make it true.
Punk has some very valid points about the Rock (both good and bad) and I disputed a claim that The Rock was somehow some great wrestler. He simply isn't. Let's face it, Al Snow was a better wrestler. (After all, very few people could wrestle no one in a match and still pull it off.) Also, The Rock got entirely too formulaic with his promos. They got repetitive. Repetition bores me. Especially when it goes on for like ten minutes.

You're a troll because you live in a cave.
Oh ok. Well that makes sense.

Especially when it goes on for like ten minutes.
lol I get why you don't like the Rock, but honestly just because the guy doesn't do things textbook does not make him a bad wrestler. He has impeccable timing, and his style of doing things is very distinctive. He understands pschology and how to work a crowd in a match. He moves quickly, he bumps A LOT, very athletic and generally just tells a good story in the ring. His matches with Austin, HHH, Benoit, Angle, Jericho, Brock Lesnar, Foley are all a testament to how good he is in the ring. Yeah his belly-to-belly and samoan drop are a little loose. Yeah he does a bad sharpshooter. Yeah Al Snow does a way better wristlock, but noone really gave a fuck about Al Snow. They'd rather see the Rock People's Elbow motherfuckers than indy wrestler B putting on a work rate clinic.
It doesn't really matter with the Rock that he's repetitive, he's into his character and dedicates himself to the craft of being "The Rock". He is absolutely brilliant and magnetic as a performer. As repetitive as he is, the crowd is ALWAYS with him.
I get that you want to be cool "Mr. smark" , and lord knows I love CM Punk's work as much as anyone but Punk hasn't done what Rock has done in and for the business. He's on his way there, but there is only one Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
On a side note, Punk also needs to tone up his physique just a tad. He doesn't need to look like a monster, but he looks flabby. Talk about how hard you work but you don't bother keeping in decent shape. It says something.

And you don't have to enjoy him. But it's as simple as not being a n00b and being like "Wow this guy is a great performer, but he's not up my ally." It's how I feel about Hulk Hogan.

The thing I hate about some of the top superstars are the pathetic finisher moves that would, in reality, be about effective as a haymaker thrown by Hornswoggle (moves like the People's Elbow and the Hogan Leg Drop) but are made out to be as effective as the GTS or the Jack-knife Powerbomb. "Sigh" Nothing I can do but let them insult people's common sense I guess.

The People's Elbow was never supposed to be a finisher in itself. It's always been used as the "exclamation point" on a downed opponent.

I know it wasn't so pivotal when he was in the Nation, but even the Rock Bottom seems ineffective, which is what he usually does before the elbow. But I hate it when people treat a powerbomb or a piledriver (which are both banned on regular use nowadays) like they worked less than something like Hogan's body slam/leg drop combo or the Rock's combo.

You don't think 275lbs coming down across your neck would even be slightly disconcerting? :wtf:

Nah, I weigh about that much myself, but maybe on someone smaller. Now if Mabel/Viscera/Big Daddy V or Yokuzuna did it on me, my poop might squeeze out of my pecker.

The reason these don't look as effective is because they're only 2 move combos. If someone where have say, a five move combo....that would be impressive. He could probably even make one of those moves an open fisted punch to the forehead. Now that.....that's money!!

I feel it would be a lot easier to transition into a Punk/Rock confrontation than we're making it out to be. If you recall Punk's original "pipe bomb", he referred to Dwayne as a kiss-ass. They wouldn't even have to dig into comments from some convention to kick start things.

Agreed. It would not be hard at all to segue into Rock vs. Punk.
