In order to remain interesting in the world of wrestling you need to evolve. Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and The Undertaker being a few popular examples of evolution.

I understand that the kids love John Cena. He is suppose to be a role model for them. He sells so much merchandise that it is crazy. But other than that, Cena has become very stale.

Don't get me wrong, I admire Cena the person but I dislike Cena's wrestling persona. I also understand that a heel turn doesn't seem like a "good" financial decision. WWE had two decent opportunities in this very month to make it happen. But they decided not to.

Not only is John Cena "boring", his on air persona seems to have lost dignity and self respect. He is absolutely bland and pathetic. His expressions and behavior during and after the main event match at Survivor Series were weird and creepy. I have no clue as to what is going on in his mind.

I must also add that Cena has improved a lot as an in-ring performer. But he gets easily exposed from time to time. It gets on my nerves when random idiots boo him just because it is "cool".

Cena constantly accuses Dwayne Johnson of retiring from his WWE career to pursue a career in the world of show biz and how he let the fans down. On a personal note, I consider John Cena to be a huge hypocrite. The reason why he got popular in the first place was due to his heelish white rapper gimmick and not the persona that he has been depicting on tv since 2005. Those fans had so much emotional investment in you Mr. Cena. And you Mr. Cena! let the fans down.

I understand that you don't want to be a heel because you have a commitment to your younger fan base who look up to you. Where was all that when you stole Del Rio's car at NOC and tried to justify it? Just one of many examples...I smell a stale fish and I ain't buying your shit!

Feel free to post your opinions

I actually have come to the stage where I appreciate John Cena for what he is.

He is one of the biggest names in the business, but unique in that never has such a person in that position generated such a polarising reaction. The fact that he acknowledges it and justifies it with the 'Rise above hate' stuff makes me actually appreciate it more, rather than ignore and pretend the boos don't exist like he initially did.

This isnt to say that he is the most entertaining person on the roster, but he is far from the worst.

Kurrgan the Interrogator is, was and always will be the most entertaining, for the record.

And I have come to the stage where I am not expecting him to turn heel anytime soon. Just can't see the business benefits of such a move to appease the minority (i.e smarks)

What I find most noteworthy about the video is that even that Muppet impersonating Piper can't really put Cena down much and ends up praising him.

And I have come to the stage where I am not expecting him to turn heel anytime soon. Just can't see the business benefits of such a move to appease the minority (i.e smarks)

At the point the majority of the audience is booing him, the notion that it's just smarks or smarks are the minority has to break. At the point CM Punk is the biggest merch mover, the idea that appealing to a smark crowd has no benefits no longer holds. Punk can go die in a fire for all I care, but he clearly breaks the Cena model.

Or just start beating people senseless. He should lose every match from now to Wrestlemania by DQ for excessive violence.

This whole thing is just a build up for Cena to rise above. From here til mania the rock will probably have cenas number and we will more than likely see Cena lose, and "let people down" and we will even see him have a few chances to take the "easy way out" and cheat. But inevitably just when think it is to his breaking point, he beats the rock, and "reboots" his career and we will get the same Cena for another 1/2 decade

I don't think he'll go heel.

It'll probably be something like "I got a wake-up call, and remembered what's important. And that is to entertain all of you. The passion had kinda left me for a while, but now it's back and I will give you 100% every night" or something like that.

I like this turn of events; it makes things interesting. This is really the only time apart from Cena's feud with CM Punk that the hate toward Cena is being acknowledged and used in a storyline.

I think that it's time to turn Cena heel. Yes, it's been said before, and yes, there were probably great times to do it in the past (when he "joined Nexus" would have been perfect), but right now, when he's involved in a feud with the most over "non-WWE" superstar on the roster, the situation is perfect.

At WrestleMania we should see Cena snap. Maybe he wins the match, maybe he loses the match, but no matter what happens, after the bell is rung, he should go a little bit crazy and beat The Rock to a bloody pulp in front of the Miami crowd. The heat that he'll get for decimating The Rock in front of Rock's home town will be massive, and if he does it with enough anger and malice, it could be the moment that turns him for good. Not only that, but it will be immortalized as a "WrestleMania moment" - like the Hulk Hogan turn at BATB 96 was immortalized as a "WCW moment." The penultimate good guy in the WWE, John Cena, finally snaps and turns on The Rock and the WWE universe.

The next night on RAW, Cena tells the WWE universe to "stick it, brother."

What Would Kevin Do?

Cena is already a heel, and the best heel in the business.

Think about it. They can't turn Cena full heel. If they do, A. Kids won't buy his merchandise, which is bad for business, and B. all the guys who are booing him now will probably start cheering him.

So what do they do? They make him a merchandise seller for the women and kids, yet they also have him utterly pissing off a ton of people. His entire gimmick right now is "Oh, fine, you can boo me, that's cool, it's your right, I'm going to rise above your hate." He's pretty much telling half the crowd "screw you, I'm bigger than this, I don't care about you."

Think about it, a good chunk of the crowd hates him, he doesn't care, he keeps doing what he wants to do, and he thinks he's in the right for it. He's the perfect heel. THe problem is, Cena isn't turning heel the way the "booing" fans want him too. The fact is though, he's getting a ton of heat, and he has this passive aggressive way of playing on it which gets him even more heat... And he's doing it without affecting his merchandise sales.

It's brilliant. All of the people who want Cena to turn heel don't realize he already is a heel, just to them. The problem is, they want the "cool heel," and the lack of that is making Cena into a bigger heel for that group of fans.

That is what I have thought about during the CM Punk v.s. Cena contract signing for Summerslam. Where a few things that he said seemed pretty clear that he could of given a rats ass about the other half of the people who boo'd him.

Why not turn him heel? The creative writing staff has nothing to lose but their already low ratings, considering how they fucked up the last few monday nights. Am I just paranoid or am I seeing a pattern here with week after week misadvertisements that I had seen just before the demise of WCW? May just be paranoid, but... things have been a little disorderly as of late.

John Cena stated Monday morning on Twitter that he is in favor of changing the appearance of the WWE Championship, which he turned to a “spinner” belt upon winning the title in 2005.

“I have thought that for 3 years. Either classic or new. It needs a change,” Cena said.

What perfect timing for a new belt change to come as well!

He won't turn into a full heel but something similar to HBK acting like a heel by becoming overtly obsessed at beating the Undertaker at any cost leading up to their second Mania match. Although HBK did something similar during his mini-feud with Hogan and even the Rock switched a bit to being a heel during his match with Hogan at Mania 18.

Cena might act a bit heelish until Mania knowing the crowd is going to heavily boo him but just like HBK, the day or week after he will be back to normal.

I've always enjoyed Cena's work Never thought he really needed to be heel.

But a large part of me thinks it would be awesome if Piper keeps showing up between now and wrestlemania, to rag on him. Cena loses at wrestlemania and the next night on raw, just loses it and beats the shit out of the rock with a steel chair or something.

I just think a heel cena, with one of the greatest heels of all time in his ear, mentoring him on going from a squeaky clean face, to the most evil bastard in the WWE would be a great story.

If he does turn heel it has to be full out. If they make him in the middle then nobody is really going to care and it would be nothing too groundbreaking. I say turn him mega heel by absolutely doing a 180 on his fans. Whoever they match up against him would instantly become a star. Although I don't know if they have anybody right now who is ready for a push like that...

I think it was JBL who said that a heel is a performer who does not give the audience what they want. When the fans want something the heel goes in the opposite direction.

It seems Cena did just this during the Pipers Pit segment on Raw.

I thought they would have used Survivor Series as an opportunity to turn Cena. Having him give the Rock an AA and leaving him to Miz and Truth at the end of the match would have had the 'net buzzing and it would have been a logical turn. You could even take it a step further and have him "injure" the Rock for a few weeks since Dwayne doesn't make consistent appearances anyways. Serious bidness right there.

I'm glad Rock's back, but the whole way their feud has been built seems dumb as hell to me. Superstar Face vs. Superstar Face doesn't really work. They kind of tried it with Trips and Punk and the whole thing ended up coming off retarded.

He should have hit the Rock with an AA if for no other reason than The Rock costing him his match at Wrestlemania this year. The crowd would have booed the fuck out of him, but it would have been an easily justifiable action for either a heel or face, and it would have also added fire to the feud.

Right, but to the large core of fans who dislike Cena, it's not really true heel heat, but more like X-Pac-heat. They don't hate him because he's playing a great character; they hate him because he's bland, boring and uninteresting to watch. In other words, he's getting "heat" for all the wrong reasons.

WWE has played this Cena-tweener walking the line shit for too long now. They need to go one way or another, and it will be good for business either way.

They turn him heel and he goes back to being a cocky, loud-mouthed trash-talker like he was in his "rapper gimmick", and this will actually turn him into a FACE. He'll become "cool" again and people will fucking cheer him (like they cheered CM Punk during his run against Cena in the summer). He'll become the anti-hero. Yeah, maybe he'll lose some of his kiddy and female fans who won't "get it," but his gain in adult male fans will totally make up for it.

OR, he turns into a total asshole, "I am the WWE", corporate jerk off type of heel, who EVERYONE hates, and gives the WWE the biggest heel in the industry since Hollywood Hulk Hogan. And since he's been built up so ridiculously strongly over the past 8 years, any babyface who goes up against him will automatically be the underdog, which makes for interesting storytelling.

I generally stay out of this debate because I can see merit in both arguments for and against why Cena should turn heel. Do I think he should? Yes. I don't think it needs to be done right now, but in saying that it should be done sooner rather than later.

I think we can all agree his character has grown stale, but if they're going to do it, it should be be done with reason and surprisingly. When Hogan turned heel in the 90's nobody saw it coming and I think that's how it should be with Cena. No build to it, shock us.

I really don't think that Cena is stale right now at all. We can all sit here and talk about how he was forced down our throats for so long, and for so long, people have felt that the solution was just to turn him heel. However, the crowd reactions are making moments that nobody else can make, and he's never been better between the ropes. He is more intriguing now than he's ever been, and I feel like the longer they leave him teetering on the brink, the better off everything will be.

I understand that the current state of affairs probably wasn't the intentional design of his progression, but it at least now shows that they're aware of it and they're at least ACKNOWLEDGING it. It's really the most interesting thing on the show to me right now.

i didn't think it was that bad a segment. cena nailed his schtick, and piper had to end with a bang somehow.

At the point the majority of the audience is booing him, the notion that it's just smarks or smarks are the minority has to break.

i can't think of any wrestler that people here bitch more about than cena. therefore,

Cena is already a heel, and the best heel in the business.

If not for the bulls stuff on the jacket, I'd swear he was trying out for Jersey Shore.

That's some seriously douchey attire.

They need to give cena magic powers. Maybe he could spend a week with papa shango and learn the art of the black goo.

Cena needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine.

And whenever he's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking, "Where's Cena?"

So once he turns heel, Cena will end up doing a 360 by saying "I have to go now, my planet needs me" (which mayor may not be dubbed in my McMahon), float into the air, and come back a hero once again with no mention of the heel turn.

Who would take that bet? The IWC playbook states that a heel turn solves all qualms with a character.

Johnny and Zack will be the new Billy and Chuck.

Simple is probably the best way for Cena to turn heel. I've been doing some thinking, and this is how I could see things going:

* At TLC, CM Punk retains the WWE Championship against The Miz and Alberto Del Rio in their TLC Match. Cena appears earlier in the evening to balance out any interference Jack Swagger intends to make in Ziggler and Ryder's match, and to congratulate Ryder after he wins the US Title, or whatever.

* The Royal Rumble sees Punk vs. Cena for the WWE Title. It's a pretty big match, and it makes sense, given that Cena wants to be WWE Champion for WrestleMania, and Punk is the reigning WWE Champion. There, Punk retains the WWE Title cleanly, and gets a big win letting everyone know that he's on Cena's level. Let's just say Randy Orton then wins the Royal Rumble in his hometown.

* The Elimination Chamber sees Punk defend the WWE Title in an Elimination Chamber against the likes of John Cena, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Nash and Dolph Ziggler. It comes down to Punk and Cena, and Punk gets Cena in the Anaconda Vise and Cena makes it to the ropes. Punk refuses to break his hold, however, and Cena is forced to tap-out or have his neck broken by Punk. Randy Orton can RKO Punk to close the PPV.

* Heading into WrestleMania, Punk feuds with Orton, but he also interjects himself in The Rock and Cena's feud, and lets them know that the main event of WrestleMania should be about him, Orton and the WWE Title. Stone Cold Steve Austin could even be introduced as the Special Guest Referee for Punk vs. Orton.

* Punk defeats Orton at WrestleMania, tying them up 1-1 on the grand stage, but that's not the last we see of Punk. The WWE Champion interferes in the main event and hits The Rock with a GTS. Cena then gets the pin on The Rock, and Punk has a cocky smirk on his face as Cena has no real idea what has happened.

* Cena is not happy at Punk for ruining what should have been about The Rock and Cena finding out who is truly the best. Punk says that Cena should be grateful, because it actually looked like The Rock was about to win for a little bit there, etc. The Rock also wants a piece of CM Punk, and he shows up on RAW to give Punk a Rock Bottom. A match between Punk and Rock is signed for the WWE Championship, and John Cena is made the Special Guest Referee. Punk vows that he won't let the WWE Title go to Hollywood, etc. Cena is all "I'm calling this right down the middle."

* At Extreme Rules, Punk defeats The Rock cleanly with a GTS, and Cena hands Punk the WWE Title and then raises Punk's arm...before hitting him with the Attitude Adjustment.

* RAW sees Punk wanting to know what that was all about. Cena acts all squeaky clean, and says that he was just making a statement -- he wants the WWE Title. Punk points out that isn't Cena's style, and Cena is all "Whatever you reckon. I'm still the same the guy."

* At Over the Limit, Cena aligns himself with John Laurinaitis (or even Vince McMahon), and screws Punk out of the WWE Title. Perhaps it could even have the same sort of sequence as their Money in the Bank match, but instead of nailing Johnny Ace, Cena lets the screwjob go down.

* Punk calls bullshit on Cena, and says that this is the problem he's had with Cena over the years -- he's a phony. Cena showed Punk "Hustle, Loyalty and Respect" at Money in the Bank, but since he's worked out that he's not The Best in the World, that's gone out the window. Cena can show up all WWE Champion like and be all "Man, that's not it. I refuse to take moral advice from a guy who refused to break the Anaconda Vise on me at Extreme Rules; or the guy that has run several cults in the WWE; or the guy who sang happy birthday sadistically to Rey Mysterio's daughter." Punk wants his rematch, and Cena says he's entitled to it, but he wants that to be their last match against each other, because he's done with Punk, and he thought Punk was the guy all about change. Punk says he will only need one shot to win the title back from Cena.

* At Capitol Punishment, the two have their "final match," and Cena gets himself intentionally disqualified, or something. He goes nuts on Punk with a steel chair, and the referee is forced to ring the bell. Punk is declared the winner, but Cena is still the WWE Champion. Cena goes absolutely berserk on Punk, and gives him a sick Attitude Adjustment on ring steps, or something. Nobody knows what to make of this attack.

* Cena comes out on RAW and cuts the heel promo that we've all be waiting from him. He's carried this company on his back, he's earned the right to be the WWE Champion, he's held this title more times than anybody but he still gets no respect, etc.

* The story then left for Punk is to recover, and vow to be the thorn in Cena's side. Technically the two don't need to have another match, but Punk can have a lot of fun attacking Cena and pissing off the powers that be who still recognise Cena as "The Franchise."

* You could even have CM Punk run in during a Cena vs. Zack Ryder match. Given how they seem to be making Cena and Ryder buddies, Zack could really take issue with Cena's new attitude. He gets a shot at the WWE Title, and no one really gives Ryder much chance at beating Cena, but then Punk shows up and gives Cena a GTS and Ryder gets the pin and the WWE Title. It'd be a moment that people would remember, that's for sure. I don't think Ryder would get a long reign, nor do I think he is ready to carry the company -- but he's over, moves merchandise, and a win over mega-heel Cena could really help "make" him.
