Flair pissed on his legacy by out staying his welcome in the ring. Seeing Flair post 2001 was just fucking terrible. Just why he didn't go into commentary, booking, or any sort of non-wrestling on screen personality is beyond me.

Hate to say this but Henning never had a chance to piss on his legacy. It's like saying Nirvana is better than Led Zeplin.

Who did Hennig ever "make"?

When was Hennig ever a top tier guy besides in the late80's with Hogan, but their program didn't draw.

Hennig post Mr. Perfect run in WCW was meh.

Flair is probably the greatest heel in wrestling history. He outdrew Hennig massively, was a better wrestler, singlehandedly kept WCW in business, won just about every title created except for the OCW title which is why he still wrestles, and was 10x better on the mic. You know this brings up something that's nagged me for a while; why does there seem to be no love for the Flair/Perfect career-ending match on Raw? I seem to recall that match being pretty damn sweet yet I never see it given any props. The finish with Perfect whipping out the surprise Perfect-Plex and Bobby Heenan going apeshit was fantastic.

The Bret Hart/Mr Perfect match at Summerslam was awesome, too.

Maybe I'm overexposed to it for owning FIVE DVDS that it appears on (Count them: the actual SummerSlam DVD, Bret's DVD, the Hart Family DVD, the IC Title DVD, and Perfect's DVD, and there's probably more!) but that match doesn't do much for me. It was definitely a great match, but to me Bret had many better matches; Bret vs Davey in Wembley, Bret vs Piper at WM8, and Bret vs Owen at WMX all spring to mind.) Granted, it may have been due to Pefect being banged up that it wasn't more than it could have been, but my favorite part of that match has always been this exchange:

Monsoon: Concerned look on the face of Stu and Helen Hart as they watch.
Heenan: You know why they're concerned? They snuck in! They scared the usher will find them!

Ok not really my favorite, and it was a great match, but it's definitely a bit overpublished.

How does him overstaying past his prime have any effect on your enjoyment of his previous works? Of all the entertainment you got from him?

It's like... I dunno.... saying that just because the new Star Wars Trilogy was shit, that it makes the Original Star Wars Trilogy shit too.

Aaaand if you're evaluating the whole series, you have to look at both.

Similarly, the Indiana Jones series takes a hit from Crystal Skull, and depending on who you are Temple of Doom. Nobody would claim these series were flawless by ignoring the clunkers.

You may have spent years being entertained by Star Wars, but if you were to call the series as a whole brilliant, you'd probably be laughed at by anyone with any ability to reason.

Which is why the same really should hold true for Flair. And why your logic falls flat. I know Gertie's just playing his gimmick, but you actually seemed to put a kernel of thought into it.

Is Jurassic Park a movie that stands the test of time and remains excellent? Yes. Is the Jurassic Park franchise? Fuck no.

Apply the same critical standards to Flair and....

It saddens me that people are more upset with Perfect beating Flair than Perfect beating Owen. Owen Hart is a much better athlete and performer than Flair was. All Flair did better was talk.

Perfect's ability to talk along with his skills in the ring made him just as good as Flair was. Flair was just pushed harder than Perfect was nothing more. Perfect was in the WWF with way too much other talent around. Flair was the big man on campus and alligned himself with the only people close to him skill wise except for Sting and Dusty. He then killed Lex Luger's push in 1988/1989 and then left the company rather than putting him over in 1991. Not saying Lex was that good but he deserved a run as champion way before he did as a babyface.
