You know, being psyched about Kane's return, I went to read about his success in the WWE on Wikipedia. When I was done reading it, I was really surprised to see just how successful he's been given a big memory I have of him is how quickly he lost the title to Steve Austin in the 1990's.

But I have a new perspective after reading this.

Jacobs has accumulated 17 championship accolades during his WWE career. He is a three-time world champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Heavyweight_Championship_%28professional_wrestling%29), having won the WWF Championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Championship) once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_Champions), the ECW Championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECW_World_Heavyweight_Championship) once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ECW_World_Heavyweight_Champions), and the World Heavyweight Championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Heavyweight_Championship_%28WWE%29) once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Heavyweight_Champions_%28WWE%29) (tied for third longest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Heavyweight_Champions_%28WWE%29#Reigns) reign in history, record who also belongs Chris Benoit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Benoit)) making him the first of two people ever to hold all three WWE world titles, before CM Punk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CM_Punk). He is also a two-time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_Intercontinental_Champions) WWF/E Intercontinental Champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Intercontinental_Championship), a one-time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_Hardcore_Champions) WWF Hardcore Champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Hardcore_Championship), and a twelve-time Tag Team Champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tag_Team_Championship); winning the WWE Tag Team Championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Tag_Team_Championship) (once with The Big Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Show_%28wrestler%29)), the WCW World Tag Team Championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCW_World_Tag_Team_Championship) once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WCW_World_Tag_Team_Champions) (with The Undertaker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Undertaker)), and the World Tag Team Champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tag_Team_Championship_%28WWE%29) nine times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Tag_Team_Champions_%28WWE%29) (twice with Mankind (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Foley), X-Pac (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Waltman), and The Undertaker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Undertaker); and once with The Hurricane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Helms), Rob Van Dam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Van_Dam), and The Big Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Show_%28wrestler%29)). Jacobs is the third Grand Slam Champion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Slam_Championship#List_of_WWE_Grand_Slam_Champions) in WWE history. In addition to championships, he is a one-time Money in the Bank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_in_the_Bank_ladder_match) winner, also he has become the quickest man to cash in the briefcase. Kane currently holds several records in the Royal Rumble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Rumble) match, including: most eliminations in a single Royal Rumble with 11, most Royal Rumble match appearances with 15, most consecutive appearances in the match with 13 from 1999 to 2011, and the quickest elimination of another competitor at 1.8 seconds.

The guy has EASILY had a Hall Of Fame career within the WWE and may go down as one of the most underrated Superstars in history. He has many of the titles and accolades that you see with HBK, HHH, The Rock etc, yet he's never spoken in the same breath as them. I hope with this return, people may appreciate how special his career has really been.

Just watched the video of the imposter Kane thing from a few years back. Luke Gallows didn't really get all the mannerisms down too well did he? And the wig they gave him was terrible.

Are we only supposed to say good things about Kane in this thread? I never liked Kane. He's been in some terrible feuds, hasn't had many great matches (I can't even think of one right now), and his character got stale about 12 years ago (except when he lost his mask in 2003. He was interesting for a couple of months then).

I TOLD YOU ALL!!!!

My roommates who use to be wrestlin fans when they were kids but grew up, were pretty psyched by the return of the masked kane.

It gives this PG bullshit some edgyness, darkness.

However, the new mask is garbage, bring back the old mask.

question... is Kane the only guy who can make heel turns or attack whoever he wants and the explanation of "because its Kane" is believable?

The new one is far better for covering up the fact that his hair is fake. The old ones showed far too much forehead.

Not even reading this thread. Like, seriously. I did Kane promos in my acting class, I have the Kane mask tattoo, I read the damn Kane fake biography a few times, his theme is my alarm clock... I've been a Kane fan since his idea came around. Not even Glen Jacobs. Just the idea of him.

Why?

Mr. Nerfect

Kane gives some pretty awesome promos. Kane was actually the performer who got me hooked on wrestling. I was instantly drawn to the character (I think I liked how he was turned into a monster, and lost his face -- adding sympathy to him), and his performance in the 2001 Royal Rumble came as a surprise to me, and supported my interest to the product.

So yeah, you bitches can all hate Kane for my Noid posts.

He's been a damn solid competitor for pretty much the entire duration of his career, and although his storylines have often been silly, and he's never had a classic match or headlined a WrestleMania; I do agree that the guy has had a Hall of Fame career. But it's not over yet, and this last run might breathe some new life into the Kane character.

#BROKEN Hasney
12-14-2011, 04:10 AM
Why?

Because of this

For the record I was a fan of JBL when he was still Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, and I bought his book before he came out with the JBL gimmick.

Oh really now?

Repost of mine from an old thread asking "Would Kane have made it to the level he did if it wasn't for the Kane character?":

It's hard to say. I think the bigger question is whether or not the Kane character would have gotten over as well as it did without Glenn Jacobs? WWE has done everything they can to kill this character, but he keeps making it work somehow. Let's chronicle the destruction of the Kane character:

- He's a disfigured, mute monster who is horrifically burned over his entire body!
- Oh, well maybe only about 80% burns.
- Also, he can talk, but he needs a voice box.
- Actually, screw the voice box. He can say a word or two.
- Hell, have him cut a full promo.
- Burns weren't as bad as we thought. Put him in a mesh tank top.
- That mask he's wearing? The iconic one that's been the key to his gimmick for years? Let's have that removed on a non-hyped match on RAW sometime. But at least let's put some make up on him to make him ugly.
- Nobody brought the make up tonight? I don't know, just put a hand towel on his head.
- ...screw it, just do what you want

Then of course add him fighting some weird, alternate-earth Kane and never explaining why. To survive that pussification of your monster character and still a mid-high tier guy? Epic.

And to add to all that, let's not forget the Lita/Divas storyline/s, Katie Vick and him arbitarily showing up last Monday with his mask.

Not to mention, he wins the WHC and has a very successful run with it, and nobody questions it for a moment. That is awesomeness.

Glad he has the mask back, and I like his new music - his previous theme sounded like generic, public domain haunted house music.

However, mask and music aside, I thought his new outfit was terrible.
It looked like a bunch of rejected scraps from his previous costumes stitched together at the last minute.

Those flames on his leg looked especially cheesy.

It honestly looks incomplete, along the lines of Shawn Michaels' attire at Survivor Series 2002. Like they had the seamstress start on it just as RAW went on the air or something.

3 PPVs of shitty matches with Taker and then probably the worst storyline of the last 2 years with Edge?

Each to their own, I didn't enjoy Taker/Kane on it's last go around. Their Hell In A Cell was pretty dull if memory serves.

I'd say he had the greatest build up debut in wrestling history with his Undetaker storyline. Widely considered (by me) to be one of the greatest stories WWE ever did, up there next to Austin/McMahon.

Sure there are horrible moments like Katie Vick and the marriges, but they are forgetable.

He did have a terrific title run last year and seems to get better with age.

Other than being booked to hold it for about 5 months, what was successful about Kane's World title run?

Well let's see, that makes it more successful than his first run where he held the WWF title for a day, or Christian's first run losing it after 2 days, or Punk's first run where he lost it without participating in the match, or either of Del Rio's runs where he lost it before anyone realized he had won it, Edge's first run after cashing in MitB. Or how about Randy Orton's first run where he won it spectacularly only to drop it back to HHH? How about when the Big Show won the title from the seemingly unbeatable Brock Lesnar and then held it for less than a month? Or Mysterio's first run where he jobbed a hundred times while champion?

In your eyes, what other than being strongly booked for a decent amount of time makes a title run successful? Ignoring the fact that his run served to confirm his legitimacy in the main event any time they want to put him there?
