I have a feeling it wasn't but the huge difference from the CGI effects today would be a huge improvement compared to the effects used at the time. Tron Legacy looked nice and that was meant to be more of "what Tron would look like today" for visuals.

No it was considered a cult film as it was one of the first movies to use CGI back then it was seen as a way of cheating when it came to special effects so it wasn't ever nominated as a result.

For some reason, people look at Robocop as a "cult" film. Not quite sure why. It might look slicker with modern tech, but it was a big fucking deal at the time.

But it was proposed by the same guy who proposed Star Wars, one of the ur examples of the blockbuster might have been a blockbuster if it had access to today's technology. I'm not sure what you expect from Fan Gerl, but I'm pretty sure it's too high. I'm surprised he didn't list T2.

The Rocketeer was criminally underrated and while it could have been better, it was one of the more faithful adaptations of the era, and really should have been bigger. I could see it being turned into a blockbuster. Though, at the same time, I worry the charm and spirit of the movie would be utterly fucking ruined.

I'm not bashing the Judy Garland movie, which is fine for what it is, but I can't help but think how cool it'd be to see a series of movies closer to the actual Wizard of Oz series (Or Land of Oz, or whatever you want to call Baum's Oz books).

But I seriously hope they don't try and blockbuster that shit. I've seen what happens when they try and take fairy tales and blockbuster 'em up, and Oz would be much to the same effect.

Well, Van Helsing was certainly a Blockbuster, but I'm not sure it's really what one would envision as "a modern Frankenstein movie" unless they were heavily on drugs. It's more like one of those cheesy crossover flicks. Which is fine, but not the same as an actual remake or whatever.

I really should watch Mary Shelley's Frankenstein at some point. I thought it was a successful movie, but Wikipedia lists it as a domestic flop.

Since we're already listing films (Star Wars, Robocop) that were blockbusters and shit, I just thought I'd mention Who Framed Roger Rabbit. A giant fucking success, so I'm not saying it needed to be Blockbustered, but I'd like to see what they could do with it given modern animation/live filming techniques.

I think the way they did the Terminator was pretty cool. Not because it's the best technology (Well, today's standards), but because it actually made the Terminator look more inhuman.

I mean, it's not the reason it exists, but it's kind of the reason I don't want it changed. Sometimes, limitations work out for the best. Sleek and fluid T-800s are far less creepy.

Though the T-1000 works as CGI because it works on a different level. Kinda the same way the casting went in a different direction.

Not necessarily a matter of it being today's technology that would make it a hit (although it certainly would help), but a matter of having today's editing and sense of pacing:

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Y'know, the slow boring one that nobody likes because it's slow and boring.

It actually had some pretty cool concepts, with what I thought was an interesting antagonist, and had a good sub-plot of tubby old Kirk getting constantly outclassed by the newer and more competent young captain. But oh my God, it goes by at a snail's pace, to the point where it's nearly unwatchable.

If you had the same pacing and the same directorial flair of the JJ Abrams remake (y'know, tone down the lens flare a bit), you could've had a really genuinely cool movie that I think would've been a big hit.
