View Full Version : Hogan vs. Savage, Rock vs. Austin, Cena vs. Orton
For the last three "big" eras, there have been two guys who are seen at the top for an extended period of time, and tend to be the poster boys for their generation. The 80s had Hogan and Savage, the 90s had Rock and Austin, and today we have Orton and Cena.
Discuss this dynamic in general, and vote in the poll who were your favorites out of the two.

Randy Savage and Steve Austin.
If Hogan hadn't been present, Randy Savage would've been the face of the WWF in the 80's/early 90's. IN MY OPINION, he had much more charisma than Hogan, did better promos, and was a MUCH better wrestler.
And Stone Cold, well...we all know what he meant to professional wrestling.
For awhile the top two were Cena and Batista.

Savage, Austin, Cena.
Randy Savage could have been bigger than Hogan, if Hogan wasn't there. Savage was a close second, but if you want to look at wrestling without marketing, Savage was better than Hogan. I have a soft spot for Savage, because he was THE wrestler to get me into watching wrestling.
Austin, no doubt, better than The Rock. Steve Austin was the one leading the way during his era, with The Rock clinging to his coat tails. Yea, The Rock was good when Austin wasn't around, but he wouldn't have been at that level without Austin.
Cena... Yea, this one hurt. I'll give the guy his dues no problem, but I dislike the idea that I'm giving him top man credit. However, Cena gets a reaction. It has gotten to the point where there's now a Cena Sucks shirt.
--On a side note with that shirt: I was listening to a few marks talking about how they're going to get Cena Sucks shirts with their xmas money while I was at work. These kids couldn't have been more than 10. I talked to them a bit, and explained that since the shirt has Cena's face and his name Cena gets paid for people buying his shirt. If they really didn't like him they should get a shirt of a wrestler they like so they don't help Cena make more money. They quickly started talking about other shirts they want.

The Rock was already a bigger box office draw in 1999. Austin overtook Rock in 2001. Rock again in 2002.

Loved Savage, was a fan of Hogan
Loved Austin, was a fan of the Rock
Before this year I would've said Cena but Orton has wowed me recently. So not gonna vote for them.

Hogan is nowhere close to Savage, Better Wrestler, Better Mic Skills and not selfish like Hogan. The Man couldn't even wrestle for christ sakes, All He Did Is Bodyslam people and do is leg drop, what a shame to pure Wrestling. Austin and Rock are the biggest superstars ever. Cena Sucks And Orton is boring as hell.
