Thoughts? HHH vs Taker at 1? Cody/Rey too low? Punk/Cena not 1? Survivor Series Tag match that high?

Some questionable choices here I think.

Overall the list is decent. The Survivor Series tag shouldnt be on there since it was complete crap other than the 2.5 minutes Rock was in it but we all know why its there.

#1 is right. HHH vs Taker was miles better than Cena vs Punk (which was a great match on its own).

OK not sure how Orton vs Barrett from TLC is higher than the triple threat lol

I'm glad Yoshi Tatsu vs Tyson Kidd made it on there. I thought Rey vs Cody was overrated though.

Punk/Cena was the best match I've seen in a very, very long time. The psychology, emotion and the build to the finish was incredible - way better than the plodding, mis-paced match that was UT/HHH.

Just my opinion.

And your opinion I can completely agree with.

Yeah, Taker vs HHH was a fine match. It was flawed though. No way I would put it on the same level as Punk vs Cena.

Ugh, how the hell did Taker vs Triple H get number one? That match was all sizzle, no steak.

Yeah, I am one of the number that did not enjoy Taker/HHH. Probably would not have even made my top 25.

NXT shouldn't be allowed on the list. It's not even on TV in America.

I really don't think there was anything wrong with HHH/Taker. I just think people had high expectations because of the HBK/Taker matches.

The list would be a lot better if #1 and #2 swapped places.

Why is that throw-away match Rey/Cena so high? Cena screws Rey by challenging him for the WWE title after he just wrestled and wrestled twice the last week on Raw. :y:

Because it was a great match.

As was Yoshi V Tyson I think you'll find.

I loved HHH vs. Taker, but I'd flip the Cena/Punk match ahead of them. No plunder necessary for that gem.

Move the 40-Man Royal Rumble to #5 and I would agree with the Top Five....

<font color=goldenrod>Punk/Cena was better than HHH/Taker and it's not even close. The only reason HHH/Taker got put at number 1 was so they can promote the shit out of it during the inevitable build for HHH/Taker 3 at WM 28.</font>

Tyson Kidd vs Trent Baretta had some fantastic matches on Superstars this year.

This list seems to be more based on the build and the payoff rather than how great the matches were in their own right with that i'd say this list is terrible.

Pretty much. Punk vs Cena being #1 doesn't really sell anything for the future while HHH vs Taker being #1 does. If Punk vs Cena was happening at WM next year and HHH vs Taker wasn't, their positions would be switched.

Taker/HHH and Punk/Cena also had two completely different styles of matches. An argument can be made for each.

I believe HHH/Taker is #1 on the list because it fucking deserves it. The match had raw emotion throughout it as the world sat on the edge of its seat waiting to have an explosive orgasm only for HHH and Taker to masterfully tease us with epic maneuvers, violence, and near falls. The two greatest warriors in WWE history collided and it took everything they both had as Undertaker came out on top but it literally took him everything he had...to the point that for the first time in history The Undertaker had to be taken out on a stretcher. Epic fucking shit.

In all seriousness, I think Punk/Cena is overrated because of the crowd's energy and CM Punk winning the belt in a shocker and people shit on HHH/Taker because 1) it is Triple H, 2) it wasn't HBK/Taker (and how the fuck can anybody expect that from a man who can only wrestle once a year and a man with 2 torn quads), and 3) Triple H/Taker wasn't a traditional match in terms of its flow and story (it was two guys doing big move after big move until the finish and I think the finish to that match was brilliant).

I also don't see how the Henry/Bryan cage match is on the list at all. It was way too short for the hype and it mainly consisted of DB running like a little bitch to escape the cage instead of working the leg of Henry (which they hyped how DB knew 40 submissions he could use on the leg). DB did what? 2-3 submissions? The Slam from the top rope was badass, but the match was average at best.

Yes, it was a great match but didn't have me second guessing that this could of been the end of the streak. CM Punk/Cena had all the potential of an explosive orgasm and was just as unpredictable and epic as Taker/HHH. It had more of a BUZZ as well. To say it's overrated because of the crowd's energy or whatever doesn't convince me one bit that it should not be over HHH/TAKER.

This would be the top three in my opinion...
03. Triple H vs. Undertaker from WrestleMania 27
02. Randy Orton vs. Christian from Over the Limit
01. John Cena vs. CM Punk from Money in the Bank

I would have put the Bryan/Ziggler/Rhodes/Ryder fatal fourway from The Slammys somewhere in the top 20.

I'd swap out Rey vs Cena at #5 for Rey vs Rhodes from Mania. That was Rey's best match this year from all of his matches listed.

Would also swap Ziggler vs Edge's spot for Ziggler vs Orton since his match against Orton was a lot better.

CM Punk vs Cena from MitB should have been #1.

Triple H vs Taker was a decent match but not as the #1 match of the year. Although wouldn't drop it farther than #3/#4 based on the current list rankings and still a Top 10 if the whole list was fixed.

Also, Orton vs Christian from SummerSlam should be on there. I don't care if there's already and Orton/Christian match on the list. That match was way better than most of this list.

Was Tatsu v Kidd that one where they had a "Yoshi Tatsu action figure leg on a pole" match?

Lock Jaw
12-27-2011, 03:16 PM
Yeah, that one.

Though they had a number of matches on NXT. Pretty much all of them were good.

But the one they included on the list was the Action Figure Leg On A Pole match.

Honestly, Cody vs. Rey was the best match on Mania for me. Should be a lot higher IMO.

I'd have Cena/Punk at number one.

I really don't think there was anything wrong with HHH/Taker. I just think people had high expectations because of the HBK/Taker matches.

There was nothing "wrong" with it, per se. I knew what they were doing and I knew why a lot of people liked it, but it just wasn't entertaining to me. It would have been the same no matter if the HBK/Taker matches happened or not. And I felt the build was boring as fuck, too.

With that said, it easily deserves top five. But not above Cena/Punk, for the pure emotion, drama and electricity involved, and not to mention a damn entertaining match to boot that didn't have to rely on weapons and other gimmicks. Again, not that there's anything wrong with that, but I feel it's a factor when comparing the two.

It was definitely unique. Intentional odd pacing and such. It just wasn't on the same level as Cena vs Punk in any way, shape or form.

Another match that would be in my top 25 is the William Regal-Daniel Bryan match from Superstars in England. With the lean toward embracing the lesser spotlighted technical wrestling matches WWE has shown in the last couple years, I'm surprised this one didn't make it. I guess they figured adding Tastu vs Kidd was all they needed.

Regal vs. Bryan should be top 10 just for them playing the Man's Man theme.

Nr. 1 is totally fine, I'm surprised any Cena Match is close to a Top 25 XD, Nah I'm just kidding, Both were great, but i agree with the Nr.1.
