Was wondering how long Vince McMahon was a billionaire for. I found this Forbes article (http://www.forbes.com/finance/lists/54/2000/newattitudes.jhtml?passListId=54&passYear=2000&passListType=Person), which is from 2000, and notes that he debuted that year on the Forbes 400 at $1.1 Billion.

I know it wasn't long and that he claimed to be a billionaire long after he, well, wasn't one, but does anyone know if it was just for that one year or not?

Also, did he only become a billionaire because of the company going public? I'm not saying it had nothing to do with wrestling (it was white hot around that time), just wondering if he ever would have tipped the billion dollar mark had he not gone public.

Without taking the time to research... My first guess is probably only for that one year span... in 2000 WWF was at their highest point and going public would have definitely increased his assets.

In 2001 saw the the failure of the XFL.... which would have netted a significant loss

He could have been a billionaire before being on the list or at least during late 1999 because the list only has his debut and not him as an actual billionaire.

The losses from the XFL was only a couple of million while his big purchases of WCW and ECW were cheap in 2001. He did have the WWE World restaurant and a few other places operating at the time but those didn't shut down due to losses until 2003.

Did a quick Google search and the majority of his wealth comes from stocks (about $750 million range when Linda ran for public office) so its highly possible he wouldn't have been a billionaire without going public.

HE was nowhere near it prior to going public. That is when he made his nut. His wealth has dropped since. The WWE product was losing money for much of the 90s, with very little net worth prior to the late 90s and public sale.

It would depend if you count his and Linda's assets combined as his wealth as well.....

By 2002 his net worth was down to $700 million according to Forbes.

So yeah, I'd imagine it was for that year only, as I thought earlier.

I dont think they've referred to him as a billionaire in a long time.

I dont think they've referred to him as a billionaire in a long time.

I can't recall anything after "The Battle of the Billionaires" at WrestleMania 23. I hope they bring back Million Dollar Mania though.
