View Full Version : Your Top 10 Favorite Bands

This has been done to death, on every forum in the history of the internet yes, however I wish to ask only to see if 2011 changed any of your list.
It shuffled mine around quite a bit honestly, as I discovered some new stuff, heard some stuff for the first time that I enjoyed, found a song I had not known the name of forever.
Bit of commentary on each to give you an idea why they are there.
1) Metallica - They might not be the best band ever, but they are my favorite.
2) Foo Fighters - Somehow, someway I managed to not know the name of "Learn to Fly" for what must be years. In the days before Shazam, I had to ask people and one person did say FF. When I searched Youtube, I got the elevator intro played to the tune of Everlong and skipped it because I didn't know it was the right song. Also, Rope and Walk from Wasting Light is Amazing.
3) Pink Floyd - I watched "The Wall" and they immediately cemented a spot unlikely to ever lower.
4) Pearl Jam - My wife got me to listen to their entire discography and well, you guys mostly already knew.
5) Our Lady Peace - After seeing the live, I absolutely fell in love with these guys. I think one of the very few bands who are much better live then hearing them through earphones.
6) Led Zepplin - I don't need to explain myself here.
7) The Trews - They originate from where I grew up and I had heard they were total assholes. However, their latest CD, Hope and Ruin changed my opinion of them as musicians at least.
8) The Black Keys - Requiem turned me onto to these guys and they have some pretty sick stuff.
9) Tool - The hidden track from 10,000 Days is just...oh my god.
10) Static-X - Only because they were my first favorite band do they hold the last spot.

I realize my choice of Lil Wayne might be controversial. Listen to his mixtapes and try to be open minded and you will see where I am coming from.
As a disclaimer, I hate most of his "hits". Any time he tries to sing or use autotune is straight trash. But he changed the "rap game" in a huge way, and for about 4 years was by far the best rapper on the planet. Could seriously write like 5 pages on why he is amazing but I know nobody would read it.

Any song I have ever heard by him sounds autotuned. And the look he got going on doesn't do him any favors.
To each his own though.

Dunno, just can't get into Wayne. I get the appeal and all. And he can spit, definitely.

He's just such a goofy crazy dude who loves rapping so much. I dunno, great/creative rhyme schemes, crazy flow, extremely good wordplay across his whole body of work (for those few years...he seriously was putting out like 200+ songs a year and his verses were sick on 95% of them). He just sounds like he is having a blast rapping, and when he was at his prime he was the best gangster rapper of all time (IMO).
I dunno, I almost like him for the same reason I liked Sit Down Man by Das Racist. You can just break down any song and it's just jam packed with deceptively witty double/triple entendres, etc...tons of "hidden gems" everywhere)
I think his consistency of awesomeness is what really places him on that list for me though.

I don't think Wayne is the problem, I think my problem is the amount of people who will try to emulate him.
