I have no idea what The Jersey Shore is, so I'm gonna go with yes.

its what he ripped his gimmick off of. (awful reality show on mtv that is massively popular)
not really, Ryder debuted the gimmick before Jersey Shore started, he's more ripping off the "culture" that Jersey Shore is supposed to be portraying. Basically there were ridiculous guidos before the show and there will be afterward.
He's no different to anybody else really, he can still be relevant, he just has to evolve. I'd like to think he has "another level"/something we haven't seen yet but if I had to guess, I'd say he'll be opening on Superstars in 2 years with pretty much the exact same gimmick and a lot of people being surprised that he's still employed. I hope I'm wrong.

he's not relevant now, never has been.

he's not relevant now, never has been.
Then why at MSG in December did the crowd chant for him until and after he came out? At Survivor Series what was all thAt "we want Ryder" stuff during The Rock's promo? Why is Eve dating him and Kane hating him? Why is John Cena slightly obsessed?
Totally relevant, Long Island has nothing to do with The Jersey Shore, guidos just became pop culture because of it.
that was a St. Jimmy post you just responded to

John Cena, kane and Eve stuff is simple, in non smart mark markets he has no intrest so they're doing everything they can to get intrest in him to make him viable. basically trying to get children buying his merch.

Never seen Jersey Shore, barely know anything at all about it and how the people on it act.
I'm guessing he'll find a way to modify his character. I'd like him to, of course.

Yes btw he based himself after this guy that was around way before JS.

I dislike the Jersey Shore, as does millions and millions of other complex multi-celled organisms (and many androids also) but many people will remember the passion he had to get noticed. He was either going to get noticed, or get fired.

someone who wears spandex
I think Zack wears spandex well enough. There have definitely been worse spandex wearers.

Seriously, my thought all along is that the ONLY reason he's getting a push is because Cena and Punk have a hard on for him. I can respect that they wanted to get him a chance, but if they don't realize that there's at least an 80% chance that he's going to be milked for what he is right now then thrown to the side, they're pretty stupid.
He could catch a break and get a huge character going. If he doesn't evolve the character and it doesn't resonate (which he has the chance to happen with the right evolution) he'll be back to jobbing on Superstars before the end of the year. His current gimmick is already wearing extremely thin.
Realistically, I think he'll be around the main roster for a few more months then drop back to obscurity, maybe getting a filler show on the WWE Network for a bit. I honestly don't think he's seen as anything more than something that happened to catch on and that they could exploit for a quick buck.

To be fair though, you never thought he'd get this far. At the rate of your thoughts he'll be a 18 time world champ by the end of 2013.
Actually, no, I realized he's an easily marketable guy with limited shelf life.

Remember when Eugene was pushed to the moon?
Ryder is kind of like Eugene. But with the actual potential for character development. Whether he fulfills the potential will spell out whether he goes the way of Eugene, or is able to maintain himself.

Who knows, we have to wait and see.
He's already moved past "just being a guido/Jersey Shore ripoff" IMO. If you're looking for that take a look at Robbie E over in TNA.

I think he is passionate enough about the business to be successful with any gimmick they decide to throw at him. I used to hate comedy gimmicks, but at the very least I can see him doing well for a few years with this gimmick before being repackaged and either failing miserably or succeeding.
I know a pornstar and a pimp who weren't so successful.
Curtain jerk tag team w/ Santino by yrs end.
They can always inject life into the character with a heel turn (not of the loner, submission machine vairety) should it become stale. Make him into a real jerk.

Jersey Shore is already losing popularity. Ryder's somewhat toned down his gimmick since his big push. As long as he doesn't force it, he'll be ok.

Yes he will still stay popular because like others have said, he started this character well before Jersey Shore began and did make some small changes since starting the gimmick.
He probably won't actually start any huge changes until the WWE is either ready to push his development to the next level or when he's comfortable at his current high level position in the card.
I think what helps him a lot is the internet show which already created his stable fanbase and has grown a lot within a year. It also helped that his gradual rise also affected his merchandise sales enough that made the WWE become invested in him.

him starting it prior to the success of the mtv show doesnt hold much water. no one cared about him while he was jobbing on ECW. just sayin.

A lot of people liked his stuff in ECW. Especially his mini feud with Christian and the Rosa Mendes stuff was fantastic.
His ECW run was what made me a fan of his.

I always assumed he started doing this gimmick before the 1st Season.
