BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sheamus won? That’s disappointing. I don’t see a matchup with Sheamus…not with Daniel Bryan, not with Punk, not with Henry if he takes it. The divergence from everything Jericho has been doing for the past month ending with him getting kicked off seems somewhat pointless.
The Rumble itself was quite terrific. Kingston's handstand was amazing. Rhodes dumping all the legends (which I was certain was leading to Goldust eliminating him :(). All three announcers being in there was my favorite part.
Hanso Amore
01-30-2012, 12:05 AM
The "WAIT AND SEE WHERE IT GOES" with Jericho argument is silly. I have no problem with someone not being happy with this.
So after a Long build up to a return, with cryptic messages - we get a return where Jericho just acts silly and leaves....Ok....Odd. Lets see where it goes.
Cue 2-3 More weeks of him just acting like a fucking fool, crying, skipping out on matches with no explanation.
FINALLY he speaks, saying that at the Rumble, The World is coming to an end. The whole THEME of his return. At all is built up to....lose the match.
Sure, it could lead to something interesting, but by now, I dont really care. I am not as invested as I was, and I know plenty of others fans will be too. He came back after nearly two years, and now really has no Steam, or Goal. Its like, cool, Jericho came back and is midcarding.

Had everything I look for in a rumble, its like they follow a formula.
- Surprise Returns
- Legends
- A Few Comedy bits (Ricardo is the highlight of the WHOLE night.)
- A Crazy Spot to stave off elimination
Mr. Pierre
01-30-2012, 12:11 AM
Pretty good show overall I thought.
-Opener was ideal. Big Show curling Bryan was insane, and it was a good triple threat match. Put over Bryan perfectly, and props to Henry if he really is hurt. All three put on a good show.
-Divas was good. Cool spot from Kelly.
-Cena/Kane was excellent. These two definitely exceeded my expectations, and put on a helluva match. The post-match was done perfectly too. Everyone involved put on a great segment. Ryder vs. Kane at Mania is going to have an amazing payoff. :y:
-Punk/Ziggler wasn't as good as their match on RAW a few weeks back, but it was still good. The finish was a bit bizarre, but it made sense. The finish was just slower than I expected, and Ziggler was completely bitched out. He'll recover though. Good match.
-Rumble is always awesome. It's just a really fun match to watch. Road Dogg was awesome, Foley, Booker, Cobra vs. Socko, Ricardo, etc. The ending was a shocker and I have no idea where they are going with the SD side of things.
Overall I thought it was a solid PPV :y:

Exactly. Like that statement led two months of build up to tonight. All the Videos, the big return, the odd behavior. All lead to tonight. Then nothing really.
Like had it come to Orton and Sheamus at the end, and Sheamus winning, it would be more well received.
What Would Kevin Do?

My problem was bryan is a terrible champion and it was a crappy finish to the cage match, divas match was meh, cena and kane finish in a countout then the entire build up with laurinitus and punk and he never got in the ring even with him being referee, absolutely pointless. A ridiculous squash match with funkasaurus and macintyre both could have been better utilised in the rumble, then the rumble itself as much as I enjoyed the comedy and a little nostalgia the finish was flat, all jerichos hype I wouldn't have minded if we had seen some development after the match but after his promises this was a HUGE let down
I'm ok with Jericho not winning. He's still gonna feud with Punk and that program will be money on its own.

The only thing wrong with the rumble was that they wasted too many spots with legends or 'Surprise Entrants'.
I marked out for Ricardo, Kharma and Road Dogg but that was it. All 3 commentators didn't need to be included. It was obvious they were not going to win nor last very long.
Mr. Pierre
01-30-2012, 12:24 AM
I'm ok with Jericho not winning. He's still gonna feud with Punk and that program will be money on its own.
Exactly. Punk/Jericho doesn't need the Rumble attached to it to make it work. Especially if the Smackdown side has no "money" matches on the table right now, they need all the help they can get for the WHC match.
Was a fun Rumble. Wasn't the greatest, but far from the worst. Some fun spots. Marked for Kharma and Road Dogg. The finish was great. I expected Jericho or Sheamus. Kind of glad they went with Sheamus because it opens up more possibilities to get to Punk/Jericho instead of having the cop out of Rumble winner.
The rest of the card was okay. Divas match was shit. Cage match was okay. Cena/Kane was okay, bothered me that Cena was in superface mode coming out. Ziggler/Punk was awesome.
Okay PPV overall and was fun.

I'm pretty sure he only hit the mat twice and I just wonder if some technicality might come out on Raw to have Punk stripped.

I'm disappointed that Chris Jericho didn't win, but that has nothing to do with it "making sense" to have him win or that his not winning is "wasting" his build up. I'm just disappointed that Jericho didn't win because I'm a mark for Jericho.
That all being said, I loved the match, especially the ending. Was it one of the best Royal Rumble matches of all time? No. But Jericho/Sheamus at the end of the 2012 might be better than HBK/Undertaker at the end of 2007. Not sure haven't seen that rumble in a while.
I don't know who Sheamus faces at Wrestlemania. As of right now the only guy that makes sense is Daniel Bryan or if the just throw him in some 4-way. I don't see how else you can do it. Sheamus/Orton doesn't make sense because their both faces and they've already feuded over the title to lukewarm results. Sheamus/Barrett doesn't make sense because I just don't think Wade is ready to be a champion yet, and they've been wrestling on Smackdown for a month now. Sheamus/Henry doesn't make sence because Henry is beat up right now and do be a Wrestlemania main event the match should either a "bankable match" or it should be a well performed match, Sheamus/Henry would be neither. That leaves us with Sheamus/Bryan because at least that match would be a good match and Daniel Bryan being a weasel heel is a great foil to Sheamus' bully face.
Unless of course the move Miz over to Smackdown some how and have Miz/Sheamus at Wrestlemania, that would work I suppose.

Intresting note when I saw Beth Phoenix making her aggressive tags and when the announcers talked about her dominating as of late I said to my brother in law "It looks like they're building up Beth for her feud with Kharma at Wrestlemania." Though I didn't predict she'd show up at the Royal Rumble.

I kinda thought Kane would come in and clean house and then Cena would come down (not in the Rumble) and pull him out/cause him to be eliminated.
It does speak some volumes about the quality of the lower tier guys that they don't have enough people to fill out a rumble that they need to bring in Road Dogg/Duggan/4 Announcers/Foley..

This was my feeling as well. I think it's possibly due to the sheer number of "surprise" entrants. They were fun, but it meant that there wasn't really much drama as far as who would win until a handful of main events came out near the end, and then it was a flurry of eliminations leaving us with the final 2.
There just wasn't really much mystery or focus on wrestler's making a solid run to it. I mean, about halfway through, Miz and Cody got lost in the shuffle and then when Show came out at 30, they were gone in an instant. It seemed like the first quarter was about Miz surviving and then Cody got a bit of the same storyline, and then it was a muddled mess up until the ring was cleared down to four.
It was fun, just not as engaging as years with some more drama and mystery.

I think as a whole, the PPV was ok. It wasn't the best but it was alright.
The Royal Rumble Match though had some good moments but I feel it wasn't as good as last years. I loved Ricardo Rodriguez and I liked the surprise entrants of Road Dogg, Jim Duggan and Kharma. I was surprised to see Kharma, as it doesn't feel that long since she was on tv, but time flies. I get the feeling that Kharma will be going after Beth now. I noticed that Beth was acting more dominant and arrogant than usual during her match. The way she slapped one of the Bella Twins to tag herself in and then claimed it was "her ring" and all that. I think that may have been the reason for the Diva's Match. Just to start all the Diva's from where they left off in May but now with a bit of a twist as Kharma is now a face.
Just like the majority of people, when someone gets a new entrance theme, they don't like it and I'm not quite feeling Barrett's theme at the moment. It doesn't seem to fit him but I'm sure it'll grow on me over time. Also, while on the topic of music, I was surprised to hear bagpipes during the Elimination Chamber promo with Sheamus, as we all know that bagpipes are mostly associated with Scotland. Maybe they were just going for a Celtic feel when they made the promo?
Anyway, back on topic and to the actual event, and I was both surprised and unhappy that Sheamus won. His win seemed to lack the "pizaz" of previous Rumble wins for me. With the previous years, when the last man was eliminated it was a big "Holy Shit!" moment. But when Sheamus won, I was more "Oh, Sheamus has won. :-\". The last time I was like that was in 2008 when Cena won.
But I am interested to see where Sheamus goes from here and hopefully we won't see him face Bryan at WrestleMania but I get the feeling we will. Possibly with someone else added to the match. My first thought is that being The Big Show, but we'll see.
As for Jericho. I really wanted him to win (So maybe that's explains why I felt a lack of "pizaz" for Sheamus' win) but I don't think that's him done now. I can see him claiming to face the WWE Champion at WrestleMania because he was the last Raw Superstar in the Rumble Match. That way, we'd still get the Punk/Jericho match at WrestleMania that everyone is sure will happen. Maybe tonight Jericho will explain himself for the way he was acting when he returned and eveything will be clearer to the audience.
But overall, it was a good PPV, but not the best Royal Rumble.

JABBA'S RUMBLE THOUGHTS
I'm thrilled Orton didn't win.
The Rumble match itself wasn't all that interesting. The guys I thought had a chance of winning weren't put in any real peril, until they were actually eliminated, aside from the final two men.
Why did they waste spots on Otunga, Primo, Epico, Michael Cole, and one of the Usos, when the likes of Drew McIntyre and Brodus Clay would've made much more compelling viewing, with how they've been handled recently?
The surprise entrants got the crowd going, but then were eliminated too quickly, killing the crowd until the next one.
I watched an interview with CM Punk where he said his mission was to make his match more entertaining than the Rumble, and he and Ziggler succeeded.
Screw this "Wah-wah, boo-hoo, Jericho didn't win" jive. WHERE THE HELL WAS CHRISTIAN!?

There was a creative plan in place for the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view that would have seen John Cena enter, win the match and earn a title shot at WrestleMania 28. As the storyline would have gone, Cena would have been forced to choose between a WWE Title match or a match against The Rock at WrestleMania 28. Obviously that didn’t happen.
So glad that didn't happen.
