View Full Version : Why do they tout Sheamus as the First ever Irish Born Champion...

It is true, but as far as I can tell, he is the first Champion from anywhere in Europe. Wouldnt that be a better claim?

Unless I am wrong, he is the first ever WWE champion born outside of the US.

For a moment Eddie G popped in my head, but he was born in Texas.

Am I wrong here?

I can think of a bunch of Canadians Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Edge, Christian, Chris Benoit.

Then there is the The Great Khali

Ivan Koloff, Antonio Inoki, Pedro Morales, The Iron Sheik, Alberto Del Rio

Wasn't Vince the first ever Irish WWF Champion? But then again he wasn't born in Ireland.

Chris Jericho was born in New York.

He has dual citizenship. And since Canada > USA ... he is Canadian.

Let's not argue about superiority. He's Canadian and he was born in the United States.

Bruno Sammartino was born in Italy, so when he became the second WWE Champion in 1963, he became the first ever WWE Champion to be born in Europe.

Yeah, I knew Canadians, but I didnt count that. 51st state.

Khali was World Heavyweight Champion, but Ill allow it. That for SOME UNKNOWN REASON was a forgotten reign.

Andre - Born in France - I thought of this about 5 seconds after I hit Send, but I dont think he ever had an Official Title Reign since he sold the title and was STRIPPED!!!!

Bruno Sammartino. There is the Legit answer.

Verified on Wikipedia, and read about how his family hid in the mountains to hide from Nazis. Crazy shit.

Checked the TItle history for shits and giggles.

Noticed this on the World Heavyweight title...

Triple H Randy Orton Portland, Ore. 09-12-04
Triple H n/a Puerto Rico 01-09-05
Batista Triple H Los Angeles 04-03-05

So Triple H won the Title from no one when He was already the champ, in Janurary 05 in Puerto Rico? WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

That was the Elimination Chamber at New Years' Revolution. According to Wikipedia, the title was vacant.

He lost the title when Benoit and Edge similtanously tapped/[inned each other
