View Full Version : Good Ps1 Games.

I just bought my son a ps1 a few days ago, figured it would be a good, cheap first system for him. Picked up NFL Blitz, Tekken 2, and Destruction Derby 2.
Are there any other good games I should look into, and maybe even some games oriented toward children?

Oddworld, It's rated T, but was a goodie.

Why wouldn't you just get him a PS2 and have access to both consoles' catalogs?

Was just thinking this myself, PS2 is about $25-35 dollars and between PS1 and PS2, you have a library of about 3000 games to pick from.

The Digimon games for PS1 are pretty great.

Majority of the good stuff has already been listed.

Is your kid also not going to see that all his friends have Xbox 360 and not want to play the 15 year old PS1 you gave him

Do you make your kid wear a potato sack and plastic bags for shoes too? PS1?? Don't be so cheap.

Tombi! (or Tomba! depending on where you are.)
Megaman Legends
Skullmonkeys
Those are 3 excellent games but are a little expensive, even now.

Cheaper but just as good for kids:
Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3
Crash Team Racing
Bugs and Taz: Time Busters
Bishi Bashi Special
Destruction Derby
Micro Machines V3
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Megaman X5 (There are others but thats the only PS1 X I've played)
Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2, 3.

Not aimed at kids but suitable, if a little tough for younger kids:
Constructor
Theme Hospital
Theme Park
Theme Park World
Populous: The Beginning
Abe's Oddysy and Abes Exodus (more of a "teen" game because it can be a little "violent". Characters being ground up, shot etc.)
WWF Attitude (Better for "teen". Blood, occasional swearing. Mankind calls his opponent a bastard when you put him in a submission, for example. Pretty sure it can all be turned off in the options menu.)

That's all I can think of right now.

Suikoden is dreadful. Absolutely horrendous game. They had a good concept too, just couldn't execute it.

I didn't play Suikoden 2 in fear of it being similar to its predecessor, although I hear it is some sort of masterpiece. I also heard the same thing for Secret of Mana which is a pile of garbage, so I will not trust this notion.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Rayman. If you're son is young enough, Eklipse, Rayman is a must.

My son is 2 years old...why spend $250 on a console and have him break it when I can get one for $12?

This is mainly to give him his own console so he won't mess with my 360 or ps3. He's messed up 2 ps3 controllers.

Maybe you should teach him to read first

At that age, he'd probably have as much fun with a cardboard box and a couple sticks.

Probably more fun, actually.

What if you just flash a strobe light in his face while you yell at him for 20 mins

just give him one of the broken ps3 controllers, flip on some cartoons, and tell him he is doing good.

2 years old ffs.

Reading will come after potty training, which we're working on now. Lol.
I do read him a bedtime story every night, as long as I'm not working on my overnight shifts. (gotta love the swing shift)

Or walk even

He's been walking since he was 10 months.

What if you just flash a strobe light in his face while you yell at him for 20 mins

That would be a good way to find out if he has epilepsy. :)

2 year olds are a lot smarter than you think they are.

obviously not smart enough to use a controller properly

Yeah, my nephew has been able to play games for as long as he could hold a controller. Mario, Sonic, the Lego series.

He once managed a lap in Forza 3 when he was about 2. It took him 20 minutes but, the point is, he did it.

Now that I know your son is 2, you can't really go wrong with anything simple and colourful.
Bugs & Taz: Timebusters might be a good choice. It's not too tough, it's colourful and you and your son can play togethor simultaniously and work as a team so, if anything is too tough for him, you can help him through it without having to take the pad from him.
