View Full Version : Favorite moment as a kid

I grew up watching anything that had the term “wrestling” in it. Now in my early 20’s, I wanted to see what all of you consider to be your favorite or most nostalgic moment from when you were a kid.
Kane and X-Pac teaming up and winning the titles is mine. What's yours?

The Rock hitting the Rock Bottom on Stephanie McMahon.
This was where I went from a casual viewer to one who watched it religiously for years.

Most vivid memory was seeing Steve Austin defeat the Undertaker for the WWF Championship on RAW. I remember sitting on the floor in front of the TV and jumping up when he won the belt.
I recall this because two handymen were installing some electrical stuff or lights or something in my dad's little bar and they looked over and were even saying "Yeah Stone Cold!"
That's the first thing that came to mind.
Might have been when Ultimate Warrior beat Hogan at WrestleMania VI. Although I remember marking out pretty hard when I saw a clip of Bret Hart beat Ric Flair for the WWF Championship on some weekend show and when Undertaker returned at SummerSlam 1994

Finding out how to fix the cable box so I could get great audio but not very good picture of PPVs.
The Undertaker returning and scaring the shit out of Yokozuna.
The Undertaker returning and scaring the shit out of Yokozuna.
That was good too. That and the SummerSlam moment I mentioned was probably the peak of my Undertaker markness.
Not that I haven't liked him since, but I was a HUGE Taker mark in the mid-90's as a kid
Him, HBK and Bret made the early/mid-90's awesome to me
Undertaker vs Mankind specifically The Post Summerslam betrayal of Paul Bearer interview on RAW I literally l cared for nothing else on the summerslam Card I remember sitting saying "Why aren't they talking about What Paul did to Taker? That was really bad."

i think my fav moment was when i attended a smackdown taping here in tucson, and it was during the height of a rock/austin fued. right as the cameras were cutting out, the rock ran out and had a staredown with stonecold, heading into sunday with their match at the ppv..anyways the camera cut off as they stared each other down. after they faded to black, stone cold did his usual turnbuckle beer chug thing. after one go of that, he was tossed four beers, and threw two to the rock. long story short, it ended with the rock and stone cold going from corner to corner slamming beers and cheersing each other. that was such an awesome moment

Man, there's a lot of great moments. My most vivid memory of watching wrestling on TV as a kid is when The Undertaker finally came back after Kane and Paul Bearer locked him in the coffin and lit it on fire at the 1998 Royal Rumble. As soon as he appeared, I was so stoked that I woke up my little brother and made him watch too. The two of us were so fucking excited watching Taker tell Kane he'd walk through the fires of hell to fight him and couldn't wait to see Wrestlemania that year. (Note: Fuck, I miss the old black cable boxes that got free PPV!)
Also, I'll never forget my first live Raw, which was two weeks before Wrestlemania 14 and after the above mentioned Taker/Kane event. I went nuts seeing The Undertaker light a Kane dummy on fire. I was pissed when I saw Triple H beat Owen Hart for the European Championship with the help of Chyna. Oh, and the interview where McMahon responded with the famous "OH HELL NO!" when asked if he wanted Austin to win the belt happened too. Talk about heat! Haha. When Austin finally showed up for the dark match main event that night was icing on the cake. That crowd went fucking insane. Great night.

Probably The Rock winning the title at Backlash 2000. I really hated Triple H, Stephanie, Vince and the rest of that faction with a passion, and I was genuinely pissed off with how Wrestlemania had ended. When you're a kid time lasts forever so it seemed like Triple H had had the title for years by that point. All felt right in the world when The Rock won it. It was also my first experience of witnessing Stone Cold on live TV as I'd only began watching in December 1999, just after his "hit and run" angle.
Also Shane falling off the titantron at Summerslam 2000 is one of my most vivid memories. I was stunned they'd pull a stunt like that.
Another big vivid moment was Kurt Angle winning the title at No Mercy 2000. At the time it was surreal as hell to see anyone other than like Triple H, Stone Cold or The Rock win it.
Goldberg winning the title on Nitro. That kept me bouncing around for a good hour.

HBK beating Bret at WM XII. Definitely.
That for me was the saddest day as a kid wrestling fan. I was so relieved that Bret kept the title, that i went to sleep with the image of Bret leaving the ring with the belt. In the morning, my dad tells me, "You should have stayed awake a bit. They continued the broadcast, and Shawn Michaels is the new champ."
Worst breakfast ever.

When I saw the thread's title, I took a minute and thought about it before reading. I'm with Mr. C, which is funny. Loved when Kane and X-Pac teamed. X-Pac was my favorite and Kane was my brother's. I was heart broken when they broke up.
That was as a kid. As an adult, I was heartbroken when I read the spoilers 2 days after Christian won his title and then lost it.

I agree with Mr Sheep here, defo one of my fave moments as a kid is The Rock winning the WWE title at Backlash coz I hated HHH and was sick and tired of seeing him with the title and wish The Rock or anyone else to dethrone him, and it was awesome to see Austin help The Rock.
Other moments to me was Kane and X-Pac winning the tag titles from APA (I started watching wrestling in July 99) and Big Show winning the WWE title at Survivor Series 99 because I was shocked that he became champion when he wasn't advertised in the main event.

I had jus started watchin around No Way Out wen HHH retired Foley, then the Mania and it was first ordinary PPV i watched from start2 finish.we wore off school on the Monday and it was on Channel 4 at 1am. the build up2 it was brilliant aswel.the first time i ever seen Stone Cold on television was when he destroted the DX Express the night before Backlash. The whole Fac-gime (thank you Edge n Chrisitan) beatin on the Rock n the crowd slowly builds...Austin....Austin....Austin. That was me hooked!!!

Stone Cold tossing Rock over a bridge after teasing Rock about throwing his IC belt over earlier.
US-Canada feud involving HBK and Bret Hart.
- Sting returning in 1999 to beat DDP for the World Title in the first match of the night. I utterly spazzed out and broke my remote control. And then when DDP won the thing back at the end of the night, I lost it again. My two favorite wrestlers in the world going back and forth for the World title in the same night. Awesome.
- Rey Mysterio Jr. almost beating Ric Flair for the World Title at one of the last Spring Breakout editions of Nitro. Flair was just so damn good at making it seem like he was going to lose the belt, but in the end, Mysterio got screwed by Arn Anderson and Flair. But that night is when I started to believe that Rey could be a world champion someday.
- Jeff Hardy almost beating Undertaker for the Undisputed Title on RAW. I must have re-watched that match 3 or 4 times right after RAW ended, it was just that good.

i have several that are tied in the E as well as WCW.
wcw
Segmentwise;
the whole silent sting angle, though my favorite moment in that was the end of clash of the champions 97, where sting was shown in the rafters with the vulture and the audio, made me have chills that rivaled the chills I still get when I hear Takers music. My other favorite segment was Arn Andersons retirement speech. It was a sad event, but it was beautifully done and made the twist at war games even more effective for me. (there were many good yet sad events for me growing up, but that was my favorite).
Wrestlingwise; goldberg jack hammering big show at (show was so heavy at that time i thought either 1: he wouldnt be able to do it , or 2: shows singlet would rip, and I had this same concern when show faced akebono at wm in their sumo match), and goldberg winning the title from hogan, along with luger partially racking show at ww3 in either 96 or 97, (again due to big show being so heavy).
The E;
segmentwise, there are too many for me to mention, but the raw segments where taker gave the kayfabe family history of him and kane i think in 97, and his return to i think challenge kane at wm 14 in 98 are standouts for me.
Wrestlingwise; bret vs michaels at wm 12 is still the best match ive ever seen, with the following matches coming in at a close second for me: angle/and "the nameless one" (for the sake of sparing feelings I'll go along with the, to me, ridiculous idea of not mentioning his name) at RR and taker/michaels at wm 25 & 26
some honorable mentions for being impressed with strength are lesnar f 5 ing show at survivor series and when cena lifted both show and edge (even though edge slid off) for an AA during their WM match.
(I know its long but f it).

I'll also add my favorite ECW moment, which was when Raven returned to ECW to win the tag titles with dreamer in 99. I was a big Raven mark back then and was shocked and elated that this happened, especially since I remembered the epic madons they had for each other years before and wars those two fought in

My 1st wrestling memory was the MegaPowers / Twin Towers tag match where Hogan took Liz to the back. My mom almost turned the TV off because I was yelling at it :(
I was a casual watcher before, but the 1992 Royal Rumble and The Real *dramatic pause* World's Champion Ric Flair made me a lifelong addict.
Jake Roberts training Ultimate Warrior to be evil.
for something more recent, I loved when Rhyno made Chris Benoit wrestle Doink the Clown on Smackdown.
