EGM revealed most of the details from the upcoming GI issue.
The following details come from the latest issue of Game Informer magazine. Their article on Assassin’s Creed III has a lot of great information, but here’s a few of the most interesting tidbits they reveal.
* The main character’s name is Connor / Ratohnhake:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). Connor is of mixed race: His father is English, and his mother Native America.
* Connor will have “thousands” of new and unique animations as a part of the game’s new combat system. No animations from previous Assassin’s Creed games will be present.
* Assassin’s Creed III will no longer feature target locking—targets will be detected automatically. Counter and defense are now the same button to “prevent turtling”.
* Control in and out of battle will be the same, and Connor will go into battle with two weapons.
* New movement aspects to the game will allow players to climb and scale trees and mountain cliffs. Traversing the wilderness will also be a big deal in the game.
* Combat has an increased focus on speed and momentum, and being on the offensive.
* Assassin’s Creed III will be running on a new version of the Anvil engine, one which allows the game to “depict thousands of troops engaged in bloody battle” even to the point of having highly detailed close-ups of faces. Says that previous games could allow only about 100 people on screen, where now they can do a couple thousand.
* There will be a level of “grey morality” in the game—the Colonists will not just be the “good guys”, and the British will not just be the “bad guys”.
* For those wondering, yes—Connor will have a hidden blade at his disposal.
* Connor’s gear and equipment can be changed and upgraded as the game goes on.
* Fighting during the winter will put enemies at a disadvantage. Soldiers will have problems travelling through snow and ice, while Connor will still be able to use his more stealth-based means of movement.
* You’ll be able to hunt animals for resources, and the more skilled you are at killing them, the better materials you’ll get off of them.
* There will be no tower defense aspects in Assassin’s Creed III.
The official debut trailer will arrive on March 5th on the game's website.

Best Buy has a Steelbook you get for pre-ordering it. Word is also that Gamestop is doing the same thing. Heading to BB first thing then to GS to check things out. Best part is you can later return you pre-order and keep the Steelbook.

Ubisoft has officially revealed the first real details on Assassin's Creed 3 (http://joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-3). First of all, in addition to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is headed to the Wii U. The new protagonist is named Ratohnhaké:ton and is "of Native American and English heritage." He has also adopted the name Connor, much to the relief of copy editors everywhere.
As reported, the game does take place during the American Revolution and "spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington's Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army." More details are promised in the April issue of Game Informer.
Assassin's Creed 3 is built on an entirely new engine called Ubisoft-AnvilNext, which promises "breakthroughs in visual quality, character models and artificial intelligence." Finally, a special limited edition case -- which looks awfully familiar (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/rumor-assassins-creed-3-takes-place-during-american-revolution/) -- will be given to those who pre-order AC3 through GameStop, Best Buy or Amazon. Check out the debut trailer above and see the limited edition case in the gallery below.

Never even used the pistol. Gonna wait to see what the collectors editions are like before i preorder but definately getting it
The Xbox Live Marketplace's listing for Assassin's Creed 3 (http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-3) briefly counted "Online co-op 2 - 4" among the game's various features, as well as "Online multiplayer 2 - 8." While the online multiplayer classification remains, the co-op listing has since been removed from both the European and North American Xbox Live Marketplace.
Situations like this are tricky, because the Xbox Live Marketplace has been known to list some patently false information (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/26/fez-hits-xbla-on-may-2/). At times, however, it can be right on the money (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/04/fable-heroes-revealed-by-xbox-live-marketplace/), so we're bringing it your attention. While multiplayer is nothing new at this point for Assassin's Creed, campaign co-op would be a major addition to the franchise.

A few new details were revealed.
Only Boston and New York will be the main cities in the game so the game probably won't cover the other areas of the Revolutionary War.
Story-wise, its set up similar to AC II where you control the main character during different stages of his life and won't just be during the Revolutionary War.
A seasonal cycle of weather will also be implemented, which will not only change the environment, but also gameplay. Enemies will behave differently in each weather condition and lakes will freeze over allowing you to cross them.

Finally the tablet can function as an alternative Eagle Vision view, with players controlling the camera using the built in accelerometer.

Some new details and plans for Assassin's Creed were recently announced at PAX.
There will be monthly challenges which unlocks new game content which also extends the overall storyline. Ubisoft is currently planning about a year's worth of extra storyline content for the game.
Weather effects will impact how the play moves and overall visibility while objects found in the environment or equipped can trigger special environmental kills".
Horde-like co-op mode similar to Gears of War 3 in a sense that your hunting down targets instead of just clearing waves. Also a regular 4v4 team based multiplayer mode was confirmed.

Both EGM and Destructoid had hands-on previews with the game with their reactions being the NPC quests are a lot more expansive than the previous game, sailing is pretty easy and smooth, combat is a lot smoother and the best in the entire series, and the new multiplayer modes are good.
Domination is pretty much like Domination in every other game out there. You have three markers scattered about a map with the objective being to control these markers for the majority of the match and you score points every few seconds based on how many markers are in control by your faction. The difference is its done with an Assassin’s Creed flair in that a capturing team cannot kill players who control the section, they can only stun them, and it takes longer to capture a point then it does for someone to recover from stun. This presents the interesting dilemma of knowing when to expose oneself, if at all.
The big draw for multiplayer this go around though was the Wolf Pack Co-op. In this mode, you and three friends attempt to perform as many assassinations as possible and each assassination is scored. By hitting certain point thresholds, the assassinations start to get harder and harder as you move through 25 point thresholds.
The most interesting twist here though is that by coordinating your assassinations with teammates, you can earn larger and larger point bonuses so balancing both quality and quantity is the only effective way to progress through the higher levels. Not to mention communication becomes critical. There are also special side missions that can add to the score and your experience if you can accomplish them with the most impressive being the multi-sync kill. This is where all four members of the team must lock onto their targets and execute them at the same time, triggering an impressive cinematic and massive score bonuses.

Ubisoft themselves said to expect a lot of twists and "seeds" to occur in AC III since they are going to be setting up a lot of new future storylines to the point they don't need to finish any of them in a row or even have the same characters showing up in back-to-back games.

Ubisoft confirms the game will have an Online Pass and its going to be about $30. The Pass generates about 25% worth in savings if all the DLC packs are bought.
Also revealed was the 1st set of DLC for the game is a 3-part storyline campaign involving Evil George Washington.
Ubisoft’s expansion plans for Assassin’s Creed III look to be more ambitious than in previous offerings, with the company already announcing a three-part story called The Tyranny of King George.
The Tyranny of King George supposes the Revolutionary War didn’t end with a future full of democracy, but a power-hungry George Washington succumbing to the very thing he fought against.
The Wii U version will also be getting the DLC pack when the game is released later.

Benedict Arnold DLC mission pack was announced to be exclusive to the PS3 version of the game. It will contain 4 missions and primary take place during his attempt to sabotage West Point.
Unlike the alternative reality Evil George DLC story, this one is supposedly being modeled around the actual conversations and plans Benedict had with the British.

Ubisoft has added in a micro-transaction system for the game's online multiplayer.
Assassin’s Creed III‘s multiplayer component will allow you to spend real-money in order to acquire some in-game items regardless of your current experience level.
“Erudito Packs” for the game were discovered in the latest PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace updates. Erudito appears to be a form of in-game currency and is available to buy in several denominations ranging from a pack of 20 for $0.99 to 925 for $19.99.
Assassin’s Creed III UPlay Passport – ($9.99)
Assassin’s Creed III 155 Erudito Pack – ($4.99)
Assassin’s Creed III 20 Erudito Pack – ($0.99)
Assassin’s Creed III 380 Erudito Pack – ($9.99)
Assassin’s Creed III 50 Erudito Pack – ($1.99)
Assassin’s Creed III 925 Erudito Pack – ($19.99)
The PlayStation Store update mentions that all the content available to buy with Erudito is only available from within Assassin’s Creed III and will not be downloadable from the PlayStation Store. I doubt that this content will be anything game breaking, it will most likely be experience boosts and cosmetic items, however, this is the first time that Ubisoft has attempted something like this with the series’ multiplayer component, will it pay off?
These packs are not covered by the Season Pass and instead are being treated separately by Ubisoft.

Two quick updates as Ubisoft clarified the microtransaction system saying all the in-game stuff can still be unlocked the normal way but is based on levels while the pay system can unlock stuff any time possible.

Nothing really stopping them going back and doing a Haytham prequel (or sequel, as I've got no idea how his part of the story ends right now) game. Although if AC3 really is the end of the whole Desmond storyline, not sure how they'd frame it.

I got Revelations fairly cheap a few weeks ago, it's definitely not worth paying a huge amount for. Doesn't seem to be a lot added from Brotherhood - bombs and the hookblade seems to be the major stuff.
I'm now on holiday for 2 weeks and stuff without AC3 - only got as far as where you just start out as Conor. Definitely did not see the end of the Haytham sequences coming.

Totally agree about the ending. And those fucking credits, OMG...after about 3-5 mins. I just muted the TV and watched stuff on cable until shit was done. You ask them why they couldn’t just put in a simple “Push START to skip” thing and they’d probably give some cop-out answer: “We want people to know who all the people who made the game who they’ve probably never met a single one of in their entire lives.” Come the fuck on, really?! That’s your excuse games that pull this same stunt?!
P.S. - If you can stand about 3 minutes worth of nothing but cutscenes, once you get to the “Epilogue” chapter, just watch the 2 vids for an easy achievement/trophy.

So I FINALLY beat this game.
Yeah. Didn't care much about the ending. Would have been cooler if there were 2 endings and you get to choose which one. Let the world burn, or save it. If Ubisoft plays this right, they can make the next chapter go down during the U.S. Civil War. With one of the epilogue missions showing black slaves on market and Connor showing disgust. But they gotta figure out a new guy since Connor will probably be dead by then.
Tried a session of multiplayer and I like it still. But the maps are way to small this time.

Warning to anyone who buys and plays the Hidden Secrets DLC pack as Ubisoft has confirmed there is a save file wiping bug and are currently working to get it fixed.
“AVOIDING THIS BUG: Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background. This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don’t load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading.”

Really enjoying this so far, this is definitely my favorite since ACII. On the technical side, I've taken a liking to the new combat system, which is very much like Arkham City. It's still a pain in the ass that the run button doubles as the free climb button, which makes chasing people annoying in tight areas, as I often turn into a building and start climbing.
Content wise, this game is loaded. I'm in Sequence 9 and am just now really diving into the side missions. About to do a bunch of the naval ones. And the historical detail is impressive as well, on the level of II and Brotherhood.
Disturbed316
12-08-2012, 03:46 PM
Same, never really bothered with side missions before untill completing the main story, but when I got to sequence 9 I just went out and did as many as I could. I actually enjoyed the naval battles, will probably replay those again now I've got all the upgrades. Have only got one or two homestead missions left, including what could be a rather sad one judging from the descriptions in the DNA timeline.

Online is probably the worst I've every played. Wolfpacks a cool idea but all just seemed too basic. All you can do is run around and not get punished for being detected other than losing a couple of points off your base score. All the other modes are cheap as fuck, ended up dying numerous times for really stupid reasons, unless I was being blind but I couldn't counter anyone, if the character isn't actually facing someone your completly fucked when it comes to avoiding death.
