View Full Version : Choose 20 wrestlers

I got this idea from a hockey forum I visit where the thread starter asked the forum members to select 20 hockey players that you would put on the front cover of a book that is about hockey since 1990.

So, which 20 wrestlers would you put on the cover of a book that highlights professional wrestling since 1990?

Here's my list off the top of my head. Most of the names on this list are just the most popular wrestlers since 1990, but I put Benoit and Owen Hart in there because of the headlines their deaths made.

Steve Austin
The Rock
Hogan, Nash, and Hall in nWo gear
Bret Hart
Goldberg
Shawn Michaels
The Undertaker
Triple H
Mick Foley
Sting
Ric Flair
John Cena
Chris Benoit
Owen Hart
Kurt Angle
Randy Orton
Chris Jericho
Rey Mysterio

Yep. That's pretty much the list I think. lol

I don't think you're gonna get a ton of differing opinions on this one. Probably just a couple changes here and there.

Dunno, we'd have to wait for DLVH's and Seth's lists.

Come to think of it, there are a few wrestlers from the 80's that need to go on it. I'd probably take out Benoit, Owen or Foley and put in Andre the Giant, and maybe a couple of British wrestlers from the World of Sport days, maybe Johnny Saint or someone. Some really oldies too, Gorgeous George or something like that.

I just made a list without looking at yours and the only difference I had was Kane instead of Randy Orton.....

Vince McMahon should probably go on it too.

Looks like a pretty comprehensive list to me. I might include RVD and Jarrett to showcase ECW and TNA, respectively, since both promotions seem left out. Not sure who should be bumped, though. Argument could be made for Eddie, as well.

Brilliant. I was gonna make a mock list made up of obscure foreigners but the real deal is even better. At least 2 guys that retired less than 4 years into the 22 year period to choose from.

Honestly, Steamboat over Austin/Hogan?

I think your list is great, but I'd replace Owen and Benoit with Macho Man and Ultimate Warrior. In 1990, Warrior was huge and Savage is a major part of wrestling history.

I forgot about the Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage. I'd take out Orton and one of Benoit or Owen Hart and put Warrior and Savage in.

Other names I was considering but couldn't find room for: Lesnar, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Lex Luger and Batista.

I unfortunately had to not include guys like Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, CM Punk and even Sheamus, all men that would certainly make a Top Twenty list since 2000 (which I think would be a far more interesting discussion, too). Fuck it, include Chris Benoit or Edge and have a Top Twenty-Five. Or you could give Benoit's spot to the customary "weird choice." Something like a look at TNA, ROH and the independent scene as a whole as a discussion about "the future." That's a cheat answer, I know.

I'll fucking say it: I want Rob Conway back in the WWE for one more shot, where he plays an older dude who thinks he can outshine the kids of today. Stick him on NXT and help him work with the rookies there as a heel.

WWE would probably print the book. That said the cover would be divided up like this:

John Cena: 50%

The Rock, Stone Cold, Vince, HHH: The other 50%.

Would be written in kayfabe and strangely devoid of any information on other promotions.
