View Full Version : Idea for a new gimmick
A guy who comes into wrestling as an MMA fighter who wants to prove that wrestling is "fake" by knocking out all the wrestlers and goes on an undefeated streak for a while. They can even do a shoot angle where a wrestler starts yelling at him "YOU WERE BOOKED TO LOSE!" and he puts him in a submission and injures him.
Then referees can run out and say he has been fired for violating his contract and not doing what the bookers told him to do but he will point out that something in his contract was a trick so they cant fire him and he wil continue to wrestle and do what he wants for real.
Eventually a guy with a rep as a "tough guy" backstage like Undertaker or Sheamus will come out and knock him out for real and eventually he will become accepting of wrestlers as athletes.
I think this can get WWE some mainstream attemtion.

personally i second this idea i mean it would be great because then people would not know what is reality vs fiction and it would create the moment and when you were watching you'd be on the edge of your seat wrestling isn't as fake as some people think it is sometimes guys takes really hard bumps and get injuries for real an example is kurt angle and stone cold steve austin and triple h and they broke their sweat tears and blood for this business and in mma there are people who only have a few fights or maybe just 1 or 2 fights a year and thats it and the rest is training yeah where are you training man in your house the wwe superstars are real star players like bob segers song turn the page says here i am on the road again here i am up on the stage and the mma fighters just get to talk a bunch of shit every few months on twitter and wwe uses twitter every single night not just a few times a year hmmmm are we seeing a pattern here the wwe must work harder than the mma so yes i agree with this angle because the undertaker can probably beat most guys in mma anyway.

That would definitely be a great idea.

And then he can have a threeway with Stephanie and Beth Phoenix.

Awesome idea. We can even have some of the writers show up in one segment and confront him with a script, telling him, "You are supposed to lose! Look! That is what we have written here! You aren't supposed to be getting a push right now!"
And the dude will just laugh and put them into badass submission holds.
Heels come out and start complaining about how he "really hit them, and actually injured them". Dude will just laugh and put them into badass submission holds.
Faces will come out and bash him for "not following the script, and how they lose when they are told to lose, so he should too". Dude will just laugh and put them into badass submission holds.
Yeah. I think this is possibly the most brilliant idea ever. Could take wrestling TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

Vince should create his own UFC with wrestlers but make it fake instead of real.

Well I love the idea of him bullying everyone until they snap and become badass submission machines.
Then he can like go on Conan and snap.

I don't like any storyline that exposes the fact that wrestling has predetermined winners. It would not make sense to emphasize that someone is booked to win or lose. If this happens, why should fans care about who wins or loses any match? When I watch wrestling, I like for the wrestlers to at least make it look like some kind of competition where winning matters.

I think it's an excellent idea. Imagine the possibilities in other forms of entertainment!
During the climactic final battle against Loki, the Avengers are interrupted by REAL soldiers, who talk about how this movie is scripted and nobody is actually fighting or killing anybody, at which point they begin shooting the stuntmen in villain costumes.
It's awesome because it's REAL!!!!!

It would be awesome, if then, after beating up the writers, and all the faces, and all the heels.... this dude is then confronted by fans whining and complaining about how he is ruining wrestling.
The dude just laughs and puts the fans into badass submission holds.

Ooooh. Then it is revealed that Vince McMahon is behind all of this. That he has gone over the hill crazy and has INJECTED THE WWE WITH A LETHAL DOSE OF POISON.
Triple H figures it out, and so, to save the day, he decides that he has to go against the stories, and fight for "real" now too. He then smashes the MMA dude's head open with his sledgehammer for real, on live TV.
Putting an end to the angle, and SAVING pro wrestling. He declares that from now on, everybody will follow the script, lose when they are supposed to, and go back to pretend fighting.

To be fair, it's not like MMA has been around for very long. When would they have had the chance to do such a thing?
(And in will come Noid and company, so quick to tell me about prior gimmicks that they will completely miss the point).

I want to preface the following by stating that I'm not trying to make a funny:
Wasn't Steve Blackman's debut more or less this? He jumped the rail. He beat people up. He "didn't know the rules". I know Steve is a running gag around here, but I'm being serious.
Also, to an extent, wasn't this kind of "he's real" angle done with Ken Shamrock in his debut too?
Addendum: also, wasn't the point of hiring Dan "The Moustache" Severn to build up some sort of "shoot fighting/real angle" between he and Shamrock?

Actually wouldn't mind a moment where there was an "unscripted" brawl on live TV and the WWE cameras panned away and released one of the wrestlers the next day and didn't mention it for a few weeks.
Would get some buzz and interest for a bit, and then all the internet fans would be all pissed off when they found out that the WWE had tricked them as the wrestler would jump the rail on a PPV or something.
Anything more than that would be pretty lame as everyone here already knows. WCW sucked so hard...

Or they'd call a work from day one, because it's the internet.

You underestimate the intelligence of internet fans who consider themselves "smarks".
They want to believe soooo badly. Thus CM Punk outpopping DX, Macho Man raping Stephanie McMahon, etc. etc. etc.

Was watching an old ECW 'PPV' with Taz vs the shark attack kid from '96 as i read this and Joey Styles referred to him as the Ultimate fighter, i'm missing your point but it made me lol at the timing.

At the same time, every major angle or real-life event gets called a work.
If Vince McMahon was struck down by lightning tomorrow onset at CNN (though why he'd be there, I don't know), the internet would call it a work.

It needs to be Chael Sonnen as the MMA guy or no deal.

This idea is pretty horrible. Why would you expose your business as fake? The idea of an MMA fighter (although nothing fresh, even in professional wrestling) taking on the entire WWE is not a bad heel gimmick. The money is in him eventually getting knocked down on his ass by a top WWE Superstar, though. To get him to that point, you could have him go on a bit of a tear, not in a squash sense, but he'd just manage to worm out victories here and there and then no-sell the beating the babyface gave him. Have Josh Mathews interviewing the guy on RAW, and he's clearly puffed, and maybe even has a bit of blood coming out of his nose the hard way and says while gasping for air: "Yeah...I...totally...had him where...I wanted him...the whole time!"
To be fair, I think this was what they were planning to do with Daniel Puder until they decided he was shitter than KK's jokes.
