View Full Version : MLP : What do u think about them changing Derpy?
I am sure some of you follow MLP:FIM, so you would know what im talking about. The change of Derpy, that I think ruined a perfectly good character. For those of u who dont know, Derpy in the original version was a cross eyed, slightly "tarded" character. But idiots cried that its not politically correct and the show changed Derpy by taking out the crossed eyes and the voice and just turning her into a klutz.
I am still kinda pissed they did this. Here's a video.

You're bitching about them changing the voice of a cartoon character in a children's show.
You are such a faggot.

Its not a childrens show, a lot of adults watch it and love it.
WWE is PG too but that doesnt mean WWE is a children's show, its just a show for everyone.
I am straight but maybe YOU'RE the fag here!

My Little Pony is TV Y. Man, you suck at this. But then, you're probably used to sucking guys.

That doesnt mean adults can watch it. I like it because its funny and cool to watch. Its ppl like you who get "too serious" and cant enjoy anything because they think someone will not "think of them as adult" and have to give up all the stuff they like because "its not for adults". This way u get bored and have to stick with shows "for adults" that suck ass.

"too serious." Says the guy who's pissed off because they changed the voice on a fictional character in a cartoon for little girls.

Ur the ones missing out on all the fun stuff by being "tough hard bad asses" who only watch "mature" stuff and check that something is "cool" b4 u dare do it. Lame.
And the show is for everyone.
Well, I, for one, am outraged!

You're the one so riled by someone insulting a children's program that he's taken to imaginary arguments.
Totally mature, man.

Its....retarded (pun intended)...there was nothing wrong with the character, in fact, I would say that this is more offensive. So a cross eyed person cannot exist in a "good" world? A retarded person is "offensive" ? Derpy wasnt even characterized as a drooling retard, just a loveable, cross eyed clutz, and the fact that they had to go and change it, is ridiculous. Not only is it detrimental to the show, by taking away a unique character, but its just plain wrong.
If they are so worried about mentally challenged people being offended, then what message did they send? If you're mentally challenged, well, you shouldn't be around and should be "changed". IMO, the exact complaint they had with Derpy is what they accomplished by altering her character.
And yes, I have been watching MLP, I think its an awesome show.

Yes, there's nothing offensive about taking "retard" characteristics, a "retarded" voice and a name synonymous with "retarded."
Changing it was clearly more offensive.

That's like saying, an African American character on a kids show would be offensive, if he spoke with a "black" accent and had a "black" name. There are people who are retarded. Making an obviously retarded character on a show is NOT offensive imo.

That analogy is pretty awful.

Making that character into a clumsy fucking oaf is pretty offensive though. How do you not see this?
It's like teaching kids to laugh at the mentally handicapped.

Stop using the R-word. The major problem is the characters name being Derpy which is an offensive way to describe somebody who is mentally challenged. The character just being a klutz is a good solution to this problem along with the name change to "Ditzy Doo." This is an over PC'ing issue. It is an issue of common decency. I know alot about this issue cause some idiot on the Stro chat is obsessed with the show.
That African American comment is insane. The traits that "Derpy" showed weren't really characteristics of what people with down syndrome go through. They were just offensive generalizing. The name of the character is the major problem which steers people to think the character's actions were that of somebody with down syndrome.

Did you mean it isn't a PC issue?
Regardless, that's what "PC" means these days: Don't be a dick. That's what people rage against.

I dont think they were being "dicks", it was just harmless fun. Its not like the character was name "Tard". I think the creators recognize that the show's popular with young adults online and included a word commonly used online (derp derp!).
Then the Whaaambulance started from the PC crowd, and we have yet pointless neutering.

Besides, Pintint, you're a libertarian, right? Aren't you all for the free market deciding things?
