This would've been an epic WM for the HIAC alone. Throw in punk/Jericho and Rock winning and I can almost forgive Ryder doing the job.

<font color=goldenrod>I found the main event boring for the most part, but it definitely picked up at the end and the finish was excellent.

Overall, a decidedly middle of the road for this Mania. HHH/Taker and Punk/Jericho were the only clear thumbs up. Rock/Cena thumbs in the middle. Everything else was thumbs down to me. I still think Sheamus/Bryan was a poor decision and the 18 second match should have gone to Cody/Show instead.</font>

I think if you took each match at an equal weighting, you had 2 amazing matches and one that the crowd made with everything else being forgettable. But since HIAC and Jericho/Punk were that good, it makes it an awesome PPV.

Still pissed they had so many shitty segments and yet didn't give Bryan/Sheamus time though.

I really enjoyed the majority of the show. As much as I love the finish of Rock/Cena, they were a bit sluggish. It could have been the fact that there were some very exciting matches before theirs, but I thought the pace could have been quicker. If you wind back the clock and look at Rock and Austin's battles (I skip Hogan because he is four thousand years old), they did a better job.

It's a good thing this thing had a lot of build.

Overall, I say it's a huge score and a great Wrestlemania. I don't think they should continue to build such long-term feuds though unless they're really going to tear it up in the ring. If you ask me, Taker and HHH was the match of the night. It had a lot of story to it.

Kane beating Randy Orton clean shocked me, so that’s good.

Cody Rhodes losing upset me. :n:

Divas Tag was what is was. Highlight for me was the double stinkface.

The Undertaker/Triple-H was amazing.

The 12 Man Tag was decent.

Chris Jericho/CM Punk was amazing as well…all the counters.

John Cena/The Rock was good.

Cena is on his way down. It's been like that ever since CM Punk broke his glass ceiling. I can understand why people would disagree with not putting over the "next guy," but Cena isn't the next guy anymore - he's already been the guy, the flag bearer, and all that, but he's done. There isn't much left for him, honestly. I give him credit for doing what he could, but that's about it. He is just not as big a star as the guys that came before him, and I think his potential has peaked. Punk on the other hand...

Good Mania overall and it didn't have the same timing issues the past two Manias had.

Main event was a bit slow but got great near the end while Taker vs Triple H and Punk vs Jericho delivered as great matches.

Only negative was Bryan vs Sheamus being relegated to just 18 seconds which is barely better than last year's match not even showing during the broadcast. The WWE really never wanted Bryan to have a long reign but I didn't expect them to just toss it away in 18 seconds.

I enjoyed Rasslemania this year, as it has some amazing moments as well as it's disappointments.

My thoughts...

Bryan/Sheamus - Horrible booking, killed the crowd early, especially considering the reaction Bryan got in Miami. SQUASH

Kane/Orton - Really good match that showed Kane could rassle with the best of em, and nice surprise victory. ***

Rhodes/Show - Decent match, nothing offensive **

Menunos & Kelly/Pheonix/Eve - Hot little pussies and butts everywhere, I loved it. **

Taker/HHH - Amazing match, so f'n brutal, what a drama ***** match of the night by far.

Team Teddy/Team Johnny - Forgettable after HIAC but it served its purpose and at least the right man won. **

Punk/Jericho - Very solid match, I didn't like the additional DQ stip and wished the feud would have just been about wrestling. That way we could have seen more intense grappling instead of "is Punk gonna hit him too many times and get DQed". *** 3/4

Rock/Cena - Anything positive in this match came from Cena being a great worker and carrying the Rock to a decent level. Rock gassed early and looked much more bulky than Survivor Series. He seemed juiced up to the max and it really affected his ability to move. He botched several spots and just wasn't the same. He needs to learn a new style more like Hogan as someone who doesn't bump if he's going to keep wrestling. The finish was tight however and unexpected. I give them *** for the effort, however leave disappointed with no Brock after the show.

IMHO. Punk is way more marketable. He has a bad guy feel to him, but he sticks to his own code of morals and ethics. He's kind of like a battered hero character. Cena is just a weak ass Hulk Hogan wannabe and wreaks of the Superman syndrome.

Punk has a huge following now (even with the kids). Let's see how they run with him over the summer. I hope they get some new challengers for him as well. Hopefully this builds Punk up as the actual number one guy in the company. He owns the mic, he owns the ring, and he owns the social media the WWE is so adamantly after.

Match 1: Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan (World Heavyweight Championship)
<iframe src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/a1QCBF3h_tM" allowfullscreen="" width="640" frameborder="0" height="360"></iframe>
After all the shitty skits and the divas match running too long for its own good, to see this really bothered me to start the show. I can only hope this helps bring a more serious aspect to DB's character.(not a badass submission machine but not the goofy militant misogynistic vegan.) They could have had a damn good match, and they get screwed for the 2nd year in a row. I hate the World Title match opening too, but at least Edge/Del Rio got fucking time to work. It was good for the crowd and stuff, but you could have gotten them to wrestle for 10-15 minutes and DB gets Sheamus down and do that same kiss/brogue kick spot for the same effect.
Match 2: Kane vs Randy Orton
Good match, and I'm glad Kane won. I was expecting Orton to win because WWE has always been clueless on what do with Kane after his initial "Holy shit, Kane is back and more evil and crazy and shit then ever!" push. Interested to see if they continue this or move on to something else. Wouldn't mind seeing them in a No DQ match at Extreme Rules.
Match 3: Big Show vs Cody Rhodes (WWE Intercontinental Championship)
Solid match and surprised at the result. It makes sense for Big Show to win as he has gotten nothing but shit on for the past month and I think this will lead to Cody Rhodes taking the next step as he transforms from amazing midcarder to a marvelous main eventer.
Match 4: Kelly Kelly/Maria Menounos vs Beth Phoenix/Eve Torres (Titties! Match)
Was what it was, but huge props and respect for Maria Menounos doing all that with busted ribs. Kelly Kelly is so fucking hot...seriously. Hope Kharma will come back in time for Phoenix/Kharma at SummerSlam.
Match 5: Triple H vs Undertaker , Shawn Michaels Special Referee (Hell in a Cell Match) **WARNING: Slightly biased review.
This shit is why I am a wrestling fan. The epic entrances and the epic stare down and the epic lowering of the cage. The epic story told by these veterans of their craft truly left me amazing and astonished. I seriously was worried how The Undertaker would do as he looked almost sickly in those random candids of him with the bald head. Undertaker showed why he has been the gold standard of the WWE for 2 decades. Triple H delivered also, and Shawn Michaels played the role perfectly. This match brought out both visceral and emotional responses out me and the 78,000 fans packed into SunLife Stadium to witness this instant classic. All the hype can be hard to match, but these men delivered. The brutality of the action and raw emotion combined with JR's "big match voice" and the ending have me absolutely believe that one of those 2 men will never wrestle again. I'm torn as Cena/Undertaker has so much potential, but my borderline obsession with Triple H is well documented. I can only hope JR was wrong and both of these men will bless us with their ability to ply their craft even if it is only once a year. I seriously believed that 19-1 was going to happen at least twice, but the beautiful finish and the ending with the help up the ramp and the hug were moments forever frozen in time along with Ric Flair's retirement at XXIV, Austin's XIV title victory, Hogan slamming Andre at III, and the forever tainted Eddie/Benoit embrace at XX. Anyone who complains about this match needs to quit watching because they have no hope to enjoy the greatest performance art form on the planet.
Match 6: Team Johnny vs Team Teddy (Total Control of Raw & SmackDown!)
Match was rather unmemorable, and considering how hot this angle was I am disappointed in that it wasn't more but a 12-man tag team clusterfuck in 10 minutes doesn't leave much time to really develop anything. I was hoping Team Teddy would win as Lauranitis is horrible on the mic and is so vanilla as an "evil boss" character that Teddy Long would have been more interesting to see the fallout of. I'm still holding out hope somehow Edge will become GM/Commissioner/President/COO/Whatever the fuck they call the main on-air position of authority.
Match 7: CM Punk vs Chris Jericho (WWE Championship)
The last-second DQ rule was interesting, but it helped to "explain" why CM Punk/Jericho would be such a wrestling-based match instead of a fight in spite of Punk being uberpissed and crippling Christian just a mere 6 days ago. The story was amazing, the action was amazing, and it was a great match and it helped establish CM Punk even further as "the man". I've said before that CM Punk just "gets it". He understands every fucking aspect of wrestling and that is why when they took the cuffs off of him he was able to reignite a lost fanbase and have a meteoric rise since just June. Chris Jericho is CHRIS FUCKING JERICHO. It's hard to fuck this up, and they did the opposite of fucking it up, they fucking tore the house down. Wish the crowd would have been hotter, but it delivered.
Match 8: The Rock vs John Cena (Once in a Lifetime - 1 Year In The Making)
The result totally surprised me, but after coming on here and reading one of Rock Bottom's posts (a very good one in the Official Rock/Cena thread), the result make absolute sense and I let my dislike of Cena's character blind me...which WWE took advantage of here for most people to deliver a shocking result, a happy ending, and endless possibilities moving forward. The match started out slow but built up into something really great. I hate John Cena's shitty Celtics ripoff shirt, and the musical entrances took way too fucking long. I laughed my ass off at them booing MGK. I hope MGK eats some steak and potatoes with John after the show because he'd get his ass whooped at The Source Awards I'd bet. Flo Rida's took even longer, but both of those performances served their purpose I guess. Kid Rock still holds the regard as the worst musician appearance at WrestleMania. I don't believe the Lesnar or Batista rumors , but I think this could finally lead to the much needed shift in Cena's character and I really hope we get Punk/Rock at SummerSlam. CM Punk is going to be "the man" to lead the WWE going forward.
Random Notes

Pyro stuff was neat. Set was neat, but I expected something cooler.
Brodus Clay's thing was...interesting. I was hoping for something crazy, over the top, and fun...I would say it covered 2 1/2 out of the three. Funkasaurus may never main event, but he can have a good 5-6 run as a fun babyface which is always valuable to have. Godfather, Too Cool, Santino, etc all helped bring an energy and sense of FUN to the crowd which helps bring the crowd back after an emotionally draining match.
All of the skits fucking sucked except the Deadliest Catch one.
I kept hoping Flair would go bonkers and get naked except for a TNA shirt and start running around and randomly bleeding everywhere.
I'm really fucking sick of seeing that picture of Cena as a kid with the cardboard belt.
I am going to write a letter demanding that Triple H wrestle at least once a year.
RAW will certainly be must-watch because this is a pivotal point for so many characters now: John Cena, Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, Zack Ryder, Cody Rhodes, and Randy Orton. What does the future hold for The Rock? If all of these contract rumors are true, where do they come into play? Will Kelly Kelly ever live up to her exhibitionist gimmick and piss in a sink live on RAW?

HHH buried Punk after he let his fuckin buddy Powerbomb him at Summerslam.

They used that to get the title off of him without hurting him and it led to a high profile match with Punk/HHH at NoC and helped setup Nash/HHH feud. Should have just done Punk/Cena III and IV, eh?

That lead him into a bunch of matches with Del Rio, a heel who couldnt get over.

CM Punk won the WWE Championship in MSG at one of the "big four" ppvs...totally buried.

el bobbo
04-02-2012, 04:10 AM
HHH squashed his momentum by making it about him at NOC. He should have carried the title into that PPV instead of having the Del Rio/Nash MITB BS bring him down.

The MITB could have been cashed in at NOC instead of Summerslam. That would eliminate the need for HHH's buddy to come out and make Punk even more credible instead of having him be the second to top "face" draw next to Cena.
