That's what I'm saying. After all the things Sonnen has said about Silva/Brazil and all the trash he will talk in the build up, there's no way those fans won't raise hell 10 feet if Silva loses. It's not just American vs. Brazilian; it's American who has said some borderline racist shit vs. beloved Brazilian fighter and legend of the sport.
Either way, I think this is going to be one of the most memorable events in all of sports, not just MMA.

He thinks he is some badass mother fucker when he is nothing but a failed boxer who got to ride the coattail of his friend all the way to the top of the MMA world. He has done amazing things for UFC and MMA, but he is such an over-the-top arrogant piece of shit that he is holding UFC and MMA from going to the next level of mainstream acceptance. Goodell, Selig, etc. don't act like Dana White does and it would be completely unacceptable for them to because when you are the top authority figure for a major professional sports league, you fucking act like it.

When did you get into MMA Steele? Are you becoming a big fan like Jabba did after Lesnar drew him in.
Not gonna lie, I like reading your posts even when I disagree or think you don't know what the hell you're talking about. It's always fun when hardcore, but still intelligent wrestling fans get into MMA because they bring the same enthusiasm they have for wrasslin'. Last month, the UFC announced middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) would rematch Chael Sonnen on June 23rd at Engenhão Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fast forward less than 30 days and the United Nations have thrown a major monkey wrench into the Octagon’s UFC 147 plans.
The UN has scheduled their conference on Sustainable Development from June 20-22 in Brazil. Although the event’s website did not disclose how many are expected to attend the festivities, the three-day gathering is looking to host thousands of people.
“We’re working on it, it’s still a work in progress. We’re working through it trying to figure this whole thing out,” UFC president Dana White said during Saturday’s ‘UFC on FUEL TV 2′ post-fight press conference. “The problem is, they don’t like the idea of us coming the same time this United Nations convention is going on.
“The other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up. And we don’t think, we know that the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight is one of the biggest sporting events this year, in the world.”
Engenhão holds approximately 47,000 capacity for soccer matches, but the UFC should be able to increase that number significantly by reconfiguring the arena to accommodate their cage. The final tally should threaten the promotion’s all-time attendance record of 55,724, which was set last April at UFC 129 inside Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
“I think it’s a huge sporting event,” White said of the highly-anticipated sequel. “I think people will come to Rio from all over the world. I think we’re going to need hotel rooms. Hopefully, we’ll get this thing done in the next few days – one way or the other.”
After manhandling Silva for nearly five complete rounds at UFC 117, Sonnen was abruptly submitted by “The Spider” with only 110 ticks remaining on the clock. Since the August 2010 defeat, Sonnen has been doing everything within his power to land a rematch – including insulting every Brazilian fighter within earshot.

I want the UFC to do a super fight in NOLA at the Superdome on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. The promotional opportunities would be sick and the city would work with the UFC in terms of planning. Especially if you have the fighters on a float with one of the Krewes during the week. That would be epic.

I'm actually surprised they have never done a "big" show down here.. They did the one "fight night" and sold out, but it was only like 5k seats at the Convention Center, and not at the Arena or the Dome..
Chael Sonnen’s rematch against Anderson Silva, for the UFC middleweight title, may not happen in hostile territory.
"O Globo" reported today that the bout will be moved to Las Vegas, and rumors indicate that the showdown will also be moved to UFC 148 on July 7th.
Anderson Silva’s manager Ed Soares told TATAME on Monday that the bout is already signed for June 23, in Rio de Janeiro, but his Black House partner, Jorge Guimaraes, told TATAME today that the plans could change.
“This situation is already being discussed. There are some speculations. What you heard, I heard too. It seems like there are no hotels to fit everybody with UN’s event, Rio+20”, Guiamares said.
“(Silva vs. Sonnen’s venue and date) will be announced by Dana White in a press conference in Brazil. Nothing is confirmed yet”.
UFC president Dana White, along with Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, will host a press conference in Brazil next Tuesday.
The “Spider”, who demanded that the rematch needed to take place in Brazil, will accept to fight in Nevada?
“That you have to ask Anderson. I don’t know,” Jorge said. “First it has to be moved, than we’ll see”

Hey now! I got out of NOLA after four years at Tulane STD free baby! Uptown girls are clean and classy. Especially Pi Phis... but I digress. I'm a Georgia boy through and through, but as a city, the fans and scene in Atlanta is too uptight at times and most people are out to be seen, not to have a good time.
In NOLA during Mardi Gras (hell anytime), you can go to the parades or game, get wasted off of daiquiris by the levees, hit up Bourbon Street for some hand grenades and tourist floozies, take said floozies to a dive bar like Ms. Mae's, take her home and send her out in a cab. Add a major UFC event to the mix and the amount of epic goes up. You can't do anything like that in Atlanta because of the city's size, laws and too a lesser extent culture.

I think Sonnen's TRT gives him a bigger advantage than his wrestling. I'm sorry but if you give a guy synthetic testosterone that he can inject at his discretion and cycle on and off of before the period of random testing starts, that's a pretty big advantage.
As far as the Sonnen Double Leg, I think Anderson's injured rib also impacted his ability to sprawl and fight that off.
Watch "Anderson Silva Like Water" and it documents his life and training before, during and after the Sonnen fight and he did hurt his ribs it seems.

Chael wasn't doing anything to defend himself while leaning on the cage getting his face punched in. I think this Silva "good guy" run will end pretty quickly if the massive pre and post-fight blowjobs continue. I'd rather Silva be a patronizing prick than a fake fuckhead spouting off about the purity of MMA and that the C in UFC stands for Class.

The knee was clean, but Silva holding Sonnen's shorts as he tried to back away so Silva could punch him was a bit shady.

Silva ceased his opportunity and destroyed Chael with that knee. Did a great job defending those two takedowns after getting taken down easily in the first round. He got warned about the shorts and let go, if you ain't cheatin you ain't trying. He dodged the spinning backfis I believe after hurting him, forcing Sonnen to be overly agressive and really just made him look stupid.
Sonnen's still a beast.

I had tito winning
I had the 1st and 3rd rounds scored for Ortiz. There's absolutely no way Griffin won that fight. What exactly did the judges see to prove otherwise?

can't wait until LeBatard's TV show on Monday
Silva missed nearly everything in that finish, if that was a legit stoppage then the first fight should of been stopped like 20 times when Sonnen was landing 10 hit combos flush.
Watching the replay, when you combine the fact that Sonnen was rocked already from the (legal) knee, got up again, and was knocked to the ground again, in totality, it wasn't going to take much for there to be a stoppage afterward. IMO, I didn't think Sonnen was going much to intelligently defend himself, and a lot of those latter hits were connecting pretty well. Still, even if the stoppage may have been slightly early, looking at Sonnen during that (last) encounter did not give me any reason to believe that 5-10 extra seconds would have changed anything.
The knee was clean, but Silva holding Sonnen's shorts as he tried to back away so Silva could punch him was a bit shady.
There's no denying that the short's grab was illegal in the pure sense...but I didn't feel like it affected much. If there's a pause in action, he's getting a warning about it any maybe a point deduction. It didn't affect much of the actual action occurring in the Octagon. In fact, as soon as it was detected by the official, Silva had let go, and Sonnen was able to connect with a stiff left to the head of Silva.
Then again, I felt the same way when people wanted to complain about Jose Aldo v. Chad Mendez and Aldo's one ring grab.

How can anybody like Anderson Silva? The guy who is talking about the great sport of MMA and the UFC and all that bullshit is the same mother fucker who made a mockery of the sport and his opponents a couple of years ago?
He had one bad fight against Maia and that was more of a personal thing between him and Damian. In 15 fights, he's finished 13 of them. You can't hold one strange night over his head.

Think Chael's pretty much done with Silva now. If the fight would have gone to a decision or ended questionably, I'd probably say we'd see Sonnen/Silva III, but Sonnen's been legitimately beaten both times now. He physically tapped then got TKO'ed. He can't bounce back from that.
Silva's got three fights left in my opinion. Two of those will be from the Bisping/Munoz/Lombard/Rashad Evans (if he moves down) group. The final one would have to be a super fight against GSP or Jones.

Saw the ppv. First ufc ppv I've ever seen. I was upset at the lack of chair shots, and the fact that no one jumped into the cage. Also, a tables match would be cool. #WWEonUFC
But seriously, that last knee that silva threw looked pretty brutal. A few people I've talked to said it was a cheap shot.

While this time around Silva was def handling Sonnen a hell of a lot better, I do feel the stoppage was a bit early. This fight needed to go on.
I still think they will fight one more time.

Knees to head on the ground are illegal. That knee was not to the head. Whatever's legal in a fight isn't cheap.

Feel like we're about to hit a dead point now. I don't really care about the Faber fight, although I'm sure it will be a decent scrap and Aldo vs. Koch seems like it will be another squash match for Aldo. Tbh, I don't care about the 145, 135 or 125ers at all.
Won't get good again till August when Henderson fights Edgar on the 11th and Rousey fights Kaufman on the 18th.

I'm also interested in Bones/Hendo. Bones will win but Hendo is a tough one.
But yea no real big eye openers. Chael is a warrior still even in a loss. Hope he continues going
While this time around Silva was def handling Sonnen a hell of a lot better, I do feel the stoppage was a bit early. This fight needed to go on.
Even Chael said he got destroyed. Apparently you've never been kneed in the chest, Rashad did it to Tito a few months ago and Tito basically tapped soon afterwards. The stoppage was not early, Chael was just covering and not doing anything which is basically tapping in the sport while saving dignity. I don't even know why I'm replying, it gets frustrating reading or hearing some of the things people say that need to put some more thought into it. All these illegal knee and early stoppage people sound like the morons that came in when Ken vs Tito was 'stopped too early'. I'm all for MMA reaching a wider audience, but I wish I could skip ahead 20 years when more people understand what the fuck is going on.
And to say that you dont want to see Anderson fight any more middleweights, you have no idea what would happen if it he fought some of the others. I am interested in seeing Alan Belcher vs Anderson, I'd like to see Rich get another chance if he can beat 2 more top competitions in the division before his career is over, and obviously Hector Lombard.

I really don't think any of the remaining middleweights have anything for Anderson, but that doesn't mean they have zero chance of winning.
They aren't very compelling matchups, especially after all the hype surrounding this last fight.
Seems like the most logical fight would be Silva vs the loser of Hendo/Jones

Its cruel and unusual punishment to force Silva's knee to repeatedly hit Franklins face.

Yeah, Andy may need reconstructive surgery on his knee if he fights Rich again :(. And Ace could do without another rhynoplasty (s/p).
Franklin still has bloody boogers fall out from time to time, from those two fights.
the only reason i'd like to see rich get another chance is because it would be a great build up to see him defeat top competition. I always like the underdog, and I agree he would wouldn't defeat Anderson but it would be a great send off.

During the post show Dana went off about Forrest's antics..
Silva should vacant the 185 title and let them do a 4 man tourney starting with Munoz/Wieman and then say Belcher/Bisping.. Then let the next shot go to Brian Stann if he can beat Lombard or whoever they line him up against when he comes back from shoulder surgery..
I just really hope we get to see Silva vs Jones at 205 before Jones moves to HW..
p.s. I also heard that GSP will be fighting at 185, vacating the 170 title) when he returns (Mike Straka reported this) so the Silva/GSPsuper fight still has merit..
GSP said he'd have to take 1-2 years off to put on muscle mass to fight at middleweight. He has no plans of doing so, there is a ton of competition right now in WW for him as well as a shit load of money to be made. Condit, Hendrix, Rory if he beats BJ, and Diaz fight is going to make a shitload when he comes back in 8 months.
Superfights are not likely to happen again for a while. Andersons sponsored by some BIG companies now, Soraes wouldn't risk that to appease a few fans unless it was Andersons last fight.
edit:
It wouldn't be crazy for a superfight to be a catch weight at 178, Anderson has fought at near 170 before.

I don't think a Superfight is going to happen anytime soon. GSP has got some fresh and intriguing competition at Welterweight against the likes of Condit, Hendricks and Diaz. He did a $12 million gate against Shields in Toronto. The record for combat sports is 18 million by De La Hoya and Mayweather. Sorry, but an MMA fight between Silva and GSP won't top that in gate or PPV buys. Dana can make more money off GSP fighting those three guys in Toronto than he would off of GSP vacating the title and losing at 185 and returning to 170 a defeated man.
Same deal with Silva. He might not be the best drawing champion, but he's more appealing than any of the potential champions at Middleweight. Plus, Brazil is a huge, emerging market for them. Dana doesn't want to send Silva up to 205 to either lose or knock off Jon Jones who's good for 800,000 PPV buys as champion himself.

Not in this particular interview, but it was the one I knew would be easiest to find. He wants to fight Silva or whoever the champion is and he feels if he strings 2 more wins together against top competition that he should get the shot. I think he will, too.
A few fans? or a few million? Im sure Dana if he really wanted to could make it a hefty payday for Silva in a superfight at the right time. The hell what Soares thinks
Soares makes the decisions for Anderson, they'll turn it down. Dana is only a promoter, he can not force them to take fights. And it is a few fans, its not millions. Most of the friends I have when we talk about MMA have no care or concern to see someone thats clearly smaller go up against a larger opponent. Jon Jones is huge and lanky, its not 10 years ago in pride where you could beat larger fighters based on skill. Now that you have top tier competition in weight classes, people moving around is less and less likely. Its not like boxing where there is a weight class every 3 pounds. Jon Jones would just have to much genetics on his side.
Also Silva has stated in many interviews he has no interest in fighting Jones.
I do believe though, that if the payday is big enough we'll see it, but it would have to be 10 million +

So your friends account for the entire fanbase, k cool. You remember Silva moving up to fight at 205 right? I'm not saying it's going to happen but if the circumstances and everything lined up perfectly ,i'm saying it would.
And yea Silva and Bones have both said they wouldn't fight each other. That's probably the biggest hurdle than anything else if it we were at that point.
Jon Jones vs Anderson Silva is the perfect fight. Silva was big and fast against Griffin. That matchup has to happen. It makes so much sense.

I understand that + Mayweather has a history of ducking opponents and waiting until they're past their prime... But Silva has fought at Light Heavyweight before & can comfortably fight at that weight. I just wish fighters would look to cement their legacy by beating the best rather than not taking fights thru fear of tarnishing it with a loss...

You sound like an ignorant fanboy. Silva came into the UFC at 185 and that has been the weight he has fought most of his career at. Stop talking about what he can comfortably fight at based on two appearances at 205 or what he walks around at. Middle weight is his comfortable weight based on his history. It would be different if Silva consistently bounced back and forth and suddenly decided he was only going to fight at Middleweight, but he hasn't.
Second, how can you talk about Mayweather's history of ducking opponents until they're over the hill? You clearly don't know shit about boxing and are only spewing the talking points you hear from the ESPN talking heads. Arturo Gatti was the favorite over Mayweather. Pacquiao is supposed to be his rival for the pound for pound best, but he beat De La Hoya, Hatton and Mosley AFTER Mayweather fought and beat them. Floyd destroyed Marquez after a year layoff, Pacquiao has yet to decisively beat Marquez in three fights.
