anyone else noticed that (at least for the last and next couple) the fight cards have a good month or so between them. i think its a good thing because they (can) stack the cards, and plus, i dont want to pay $55 for a fight every two or three weeks. the only problem is that FUEL TV is not in HD.

Someone asked Dana White about this Saturday during the post fight press conference, saying that with the 5 week break, their was more hype around the Gustafsson/Silva fight than there usually would have been.. He said that there is no way to cut back now, with the FOX deal they owe them like 42 shows a year (FOX, FX, Fuel tv) and they still have to keep up the PPV's.. He said he'd like to go back to having 5 shows a year but if anything happens they will be adding shows..

There still is only 12 PPV's a year, but now we get all the "fight nights" and whatnot..

I like having more shows, as the "big" PPV's (Evans/Jones, Sonnen/Silva) will still be huge just because of the storylines around them..

I don't think the break was by design. The March PPV in Montreal got canceled and the fighters were moved to the Evans/Jones card.

As a fan, the more fights the better. I think it would be good for the fighters if there was more of a break though. They'd have more time to recover and hone their skills. Top boxers fight once or twice a year max and that's training exclusively in boxing. With all the nicks and injuries that go down just while training in MMA, it seems like having the best fighters compete no more than two times a year would lead to better fights in the long run.

Well they have added more weight classes too now so there are alot more fighters out there. It's harder to keep track for the casual fan of who's the champ in what division and all.

Just hope they're done adding divisions, I can care less for a couple of 125 pounders duking it out. Unless it's a womens

There is a 125 lbs division.. They are having a tourney with four guys to determine the first champ..

Joe Benavidez vs Yasuhiro Urushutani

Demetrious Johnson vs Ian McCall

The current UFC champs are:

HW (265)-Junior Dos Santos
LHW (205)-Jon Jones
MW (185)-Anderson Silva
WW (170)-GSP
LW (155)-Benson Henderson
Featherweight (145)-Jose Aldo
Bantomweight (135)-Domenic Cruz
Flyweight (125)-n/a

Do you count interim champs, Kris P?

Yea those were actually pretty good fights too. Im not jumping up my couch to order a ppv that headlines them though.

I think the smart move would be for Zuffa/UFC to feature the 125, 135 and women's title (I don't think the Showtime/Strikeforce deal is going to continue and if Rousey is still champ they won't let her go) on the FX/Fuel/Fox cards.

Those fights are always exciting, but I agree with Crimson. I'm not really interested in buying a PPV headlined by those fighters. Plus, if the championship bouts are featured free or on cable, those fighters could build a following.

Dana White has been pretty out spoken about the fact that there will never be women's MMA in the UFC..

I liked the break aswell, although if someone was really in need of watch a UFC fight they had the 1 match on FX to watch.

Dana White has been pretty out spoken about the fact that there will never be women's MMA in the UFC..

That didn't stop him from trying to sign Gina Carano. Dana's also the same guy who said Nate Marquardt would never fight for not only the UFC, but any Zuffa company ever again. If there's money to be made or a need to be filled, he'll change his mind.

Dana says that about women's MMA doesn't want to have to promote Christopher Cyborg mauling people. She doesn't speak English well, isn't attractive and dominates opponents to the point where the fights seem cruel. Ronda Rousey is marketable just like Gina. He'll find a way to make women's MMA work if she's still champ at the end of the SF deal. Even if it's just once a year. Even if Dana doesn't like it, I doubt the Fertitas are going to let him throw her out on her ass or go to Bellator.

Sign Gina to do what, sit on his lap??

It's pretty close minded for Dana to just be like "No matter what there will never be womens division in UFC"

They can make it work and hype it up if they want. I mean the talent is thin, so to make up for it they can just make one 135 weight class and make the fighters move up or down.

Put out an TUF show like we've said before. The ratings are horrible this season anyway, goes to show the casual watchers from before have grown tired of the same old thing. What better way to freshen things up?

I don't see why they wouldn't try it , pretty absurd.

No it's not..

I hate women's MMA.. There isn't enough talent to sustain a women's division.. I'm a hardcore long time MMA fan.. I read about it daily, check all the rankings etc.. Chicks can lose multiple fights in a row and still be in the top 10.. Maybe years from now, there will be enough talent to make it work at the highest level, but, right now, it's not worth it to Zuffa..

That being said, here is a recent interview where Dana says they are gonna keep the Strikeforce woman's division, which is fine..

<iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_GsK1msP3Ok" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

He also says that the Strikeforce HW division will be shut down, meaning Barnett and Cormier will be in the UFC.. I also says the Gilbert Melendez is gonna stay in Strikeforce which makes me very sad..
