Highlights from Nintendo's pre-E3 Direct:

* New controller was announced called the Wii U Pro and its similar to the Xbox 360 controller and Classic Pro controller.
* The tablet controller has been redesigned to offer more comfort when holding especially the back grips
* Miis now act very similar to the friends list on Xbox Live where you can talk and see what others are doing
* Miis also will appear in a lot more games now but players have the option to disable them for certain games or when they feel like it.
* Heavy emphasis on "social media" and interaction to go along with a huge rehaul of the online system as part of the huge emphasis on the new Nintendo Network

Where did you get that idea about their reputation? They take longer to do things, but they are also an independent company that funds their own projects for the most part.

CCP have a history of being one of the best MMO developers around due to listening to their players and admitting mistakes when no other MMO companies would typically do that. They are way ahead of the curve when it comes to this genre. At one point, they -completely- overhauled the game's graphics in order to stay modern and compete. Took forever, released over several expansions, but fuck if it didn't come together at the end and look absolutely gorgeous.

They have a vision that they stick to. Their publisher went belly up before the game released, and they worked without pay for over half a year in order to finish the game and get it out there. To add insult to injury, the publisher took the box rights to the game, so they had to sell it by digital download ONLY for over half of the game's life. They built an empire from nothing, and managed to top 400k subscriptions this year and are still on a slow and steady rise. Literally the only MMO on the market that has yet to peak in subscriptions, and that's after 11 years. Not bad for a niche game.

There is only a single major feature that was promised and not delivered on - Walking In Stations. And it was their own playerbase that caused them to shelve it after players rioted over an internal newsletter and demanded that CCP refocus back on things that mattered to them. So they did.

DUST 514 is going to be fantastic. Have you missed the Fanfest gameplay videos and presentations about weapons/vehicles/fittings/roles? Looks incredible. Certainly wont be a game that appeals to the typical short attention span CoD gamers, but I have no issues with that at all. They've said outright that they are -prepared- for it to tank at launch, and plan on nurturing a long term player base with constant content/feature updates for years to come. This is the -only- gaming company in the industry that I actually trust when they say something like that.

As far as what they've promised for DUST - they've already shown the live planet bombardment a couple times, where a ship in EVE can bombard a planet from orbit and it happens in real-time in DUST. Games are going to be linked, and they've already said what they will and won't be able to have in at launch, and what they plan on doing after launch. Again, only company I trust when they say they're going to do something.

The game is going to be ENTIRELY free with an optional cash shop that they've stated will NOT feature 'pay-to-win' items. Going to be awesome that day one, I can download the game for free and just start playing.

Didn't mean for that to be so long, but CCP is quality. They make gaffs from time to time, but fuck if they don't try to make up for it. Other companies should look to them as an example of what to do. Their employees genuinely seem to love the company as well. They actually learn from mistakes, listen to their players, and aren't afraid to take REAL chances if it means a truly unique experience. Really hope that one day, they are a giant of the industry and start making a whole slew of other games outside of just MMOs. Love their vision and their business model.

What games have they made besides EVE?

Haven't released any others yet. They are developing two titles at the moment, both MMOs. DUST 514 (PS3) and World of Darkness (PC). They purchased White Wolf for the sole purpose of making a World of Darkness MMO. They have a studio in Atlanta, Their headquarters in Reykjavik, and another studio in Shanghai. I believe there is an office in San Francisco, and another in Newcastle, UK. Each studio is working on a different game, and the other locations handle logistics and servers I think. So they're quite established at this point, and seem to be in it for the long haul. As long as EVE continues to do well, they've got a steady stream of income for their other projects.

They have done an amazing job with EVE though in 11 years. Like I said, it is the only MMO on the market to consistently rise in subscriptions and not yet peak. Having followed them for about 6 or 7 years now, I have all the faith in the world for them to produce a quality title and continue to strive for excellence. The day they become a publicly traded company and have to answer to share holders is the day I will start to worry, if that day ever comes.

They have delivered plenty, and when it looked like they weren't, the players organized a riot and started mass cancelling subscriptions. It resulted in the direct restructuring of teams within CCP, and a massive shift in company motto, as well as the firing and reassignment of a large amount of people. Again, their mistakes led to them realizing they lost focus, so they listened to what their players wanted, and went back to making internet spaceships the main priority. Since then, they've climbed back up to even higher subscription numbers than before it happened.

Hell, there is even a council of players elected by the playerbase which has been utilized in communicating player desires to the development team. They get flown to Iceland once or twice a year to meet with CCP and discuss the direction of the game and bring issues to their attention. How many companies would allow their players to have that big of an impact on what happens in the game? Sure, CCP has the final word in what goes in or not, but that is some real effort put into listening to player suggestions.

This is why they deserve to be a giant. They put big companies like EA/Activision to shame with how much they care about the quality of their product.

Surprised it took EA this long to figure out to add Kinect controls in a sports game beyond just golf which only occurred this year.

I think this is the end of the conference so, other than South Park and Loco Cycle, nothing was even remotely interesting for me.

When we saw the Loco Cycle trailer and it was a female voice and a futuristic background and it was talking about a female being great at forms of assination and all these other things, I was actually starting to think they were going to show Perfect Dark or something.

Microsoft's conference was almost the same as last year and the year before besides some of the games and announcements getting mixed around.

Had the usual Call of Duty setup, the Forza announcement, the Gears/Halo announcement, Kinect stuff, some random stuff, and then a few games shown off.

Watching the live feed from Gametrailers and they said the Unreal 4 Engine live demo won't be shown until next week. It will be from E3 but not shown live.

Announcement itself popped up pretty randomly and was briefly talked about so not 100% sure if the live demo will be shown during E3 itself.
