View Full Version : Weird things about wrestling...

Over the years of watching pro wrestling, and looking at crowds from all over the world via my TV, I've come to notice some things that sort of struck me as odd. Not really big things, but just little anomalies that sort of perplex me.

-The world of pro wrestling is the only one where Canada is the "evil" country, at least in the US. I don't know if the Hart Foundation was responsible for this or not, but in the wrestling world, one of the easiest ways for a Canadian wrestler to get cheap heat is by flaunting the fact that he's Canadian.

-Speaking of Canadians, the Canadian and Japanese crowds pride themselves on their love of skilled technical mat-work, but both crowds go nuts for Hulk Hogan.

-Japanese fans are dead silent for crazy stuff like Asai Moonsaults, but go crazy when someone locks in an armbar or a stepover toe hold.

-The ever-fluctuating effectiveness of chairs (and lots of other things, but I'll go with chairs right now) One night, the Rock takes a single chair shot that's enough to knock him out long enough for the three count and cost him the Title. A few weeks later, he's getting whacked over the head multiple times and getting right back up.

-Referees can spot a manager climb onto the ring apron, but can't hear a wrestler entering with theme music blaring, or the subsequent sounds of whatever vicious (and usually noisy) deed is going on directly behind him.

Anyone else got some?

in tag team matches, the ref always acts like the face team are the "known cheaters". like if he doesnt see or HEAR a tag by the face team, then it doesnt count. but in the case of the heel team, he just assumes theyre on the up and up.

1. The DDT's effectiveness is a wild card.
2. Security is practically useless in most cases.
3. No other cities besides Tokyo exist in Japan.
4. You just never know when someone's going to be called for not being the legal man.
5. Anything from a chair shot to a feather can take out a referee but he'll always be there to count the fall.
6. 10 counts are only really important in Last Man Standing matches.
7. People just leave the darndest things under the ring.
8. The Spanish announce table has mysterious components that make it more damaging than any of the other announce tables.
9. Everything is made of steel.
10. Heels get along just fine with each other while faces will usually more often than not explode at each other.
11. GMs, Commissioners, etc. all book the important matches but no one ever talks about who books the fillers.
12. Internal injuries can be healed by merely wrapping the torso in bandages.
13. Leg drops are a common thing but only Hulk Hogan can win with one.
14. Cameramen don't exist in WWE World and the wrestlers can go on as if one were not in the same room with them.
15. The Pedigree is THE finisher despite wrestlers kicking out of other finishing moves.

Wrestlers are aparently light enough to be pulled into the ring by yanking on the top rope (the Hot Shot), yet supposedly wigh an average of around 230 pounds in the WWE.

*man walks down thwe mountain with a robe and a long flowing white beard* these are the laws of the wrestling universe:
1. HHH will eventually win.
2. The Ref shall only notice when the face's tag team partner enters the ring to try and help
3. Injuries will only matter on alternate weeks.
4. People can fall from great heights in cars and get rammed by pick up trucks, but only have a few minor cuts and bruises the following week
5. Cinder blocks crumble upon impact
6. There will always be conveniantly placed garbage cans, ladders, tables and chairs under the ring during hardcore matches or matches involving the Dudley Boys.
For these are the laws of the wrestling universe.

Specific articles of clothing, mainly masks and hats, can not only alter appearance, but ability

Wrestlers have goldfish type memories when it comes to who their enemies are.

Holding someones calves and falling backwards will propel them great lenghts.

Even if you play Smackdown video games, this is the case.

Are you serious? I find that absolutely hilarious if that's the case.

On PS2, you could count on two things:

1)You had to beat Goldberg within an inch of his life in order to get even one "special."

2) If the computer was Triple H and hit you w/the Pedigree, you were done.

Apparently if you have broken ribs, a small layer of bandage around your lower stomach does the trick for fixing it. (expecially if you're Brock Lesnar)

Entrance music comes on automatically when a wrestler walks through the curtain.

If RAW is in 'The King's' hometown, he always ends up in the ring, beating someone up, despite the fact that he doesn't enter the ring for the rest of the year.

Michael Cole never ever gets his ass whooped despite nobody liking him.

Whenever someone runs out to the ring and interferes in a match, somehow the cameramen never ever see them and focus on the ring in such a way as the person running in can't be seen until the last possible second.
Likewise, apparently the announcers can only see people walking down the ramp, but not see them when they run in, which is really weird, because on Smackdown, they can see straight up the ramp, and on RAW they can see the ramp and the ring, so there is no real reason for it, unless they have been hypnotised or brainwashed, and who would benefit from this apart from Vince as he would end up producing a more dramatic TV product, so Vince is an evil mind-washing hypnotist, but on TV he appears like an arrogant ass-hole, and on the internet everybody thinks he's a talent-wasting, stuck-up, dirty, no-good, dirtbag, son-of-a-bitch, wankstain, but in real life he can't actually be that bad because his kids still talk to him and Stone Cold says in his book that Vince is a nice guy, and is approachable and helpful and friendly, which makes no sense, but then Stone Cold doesn't make a lot of sense, because sometimes he's cool, and whoops ass, drinks beer, and stunners people I don't like, and then you read about him being arrested for wife-beating and stuff, which makes you think that he's not that nice a guy, but in reality he's got a huge fanbase and you totally mark out when the music hits and the glass smashes, except you won't see that on WWE anymore, unless he comes back again, because he left before, never to return, and then he came back again, and whatever happened to the french people he was fighting with and nothing happened, and anyway, how come people beat the crap out of each other with steel chairs and sledgehammers and stuff and no-one gets arrested for it?

And just while I remember, Wrestling is full of contradictions.

Conclusion!

Wrestling is entertainment.

Entertainment isnt wrestling.

Right. Only thing that will save you is a rope break. You can be in the yellow-damage zone and one Pedigree will take you out.

I've gotten pinned with the Pedigree when I wasn't even on yellow at all. That's some serious horseshit.
