I absolutely think the Attitude era still would have happened. Some of those Russo interviews shed some light on how it happened in the first place, if they're true. Russo and his backers believed that they needed to do something drastic because too many fans were becoming aware of the backstage politics and such. He seemed to indicate that the attitude transformation had nothing to do with WCW and its popularity at the time. It almost makes sense though because that era really didn't kick into high gear until '98 or so. The nWo had been around for nearly two years already and was getting stale fast.
Nice post steve,, you are correct,,, wrestling and the attitude era are because of vince russo,,, if he never came into wrestling there would be ZERO promotions alive except the small armory indy shows,,,

Sonny Siaki Talks About Early TNA Career
Added on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at 6:49 pm to Latest News by William B. West
Source: WWI
He’s the ace in your face and our favorite Elvis. Now, former X-Division Champion Sonny Siaki joins James Guttman for a rare 44 minute shoot interview on ClubWWI.com about his wrestling career in the ring and his amazing story outside of it with talk about everything including the role WWE played in his WCW release, memories of his partner Eki “Umaga” Fatu, comparisons to the Rock, confusion over the Flying Elvises gimmick, competing in Chris Candido’s tragic last match and the stunning aftermath, and tons more. For a full list of topics, head to: http://www.worldwrestlinginsanity.com/am....nny_Siaki.shtml (http://www.worldwrestlinginsanity.com/am2/publish/newsnotes/ClubWWI_Sonny_Siaki.shtml)
For up to the minute information on all the latest guests, articles, and information posted on World Wrestling Insanity, you can join our Facebook Fan Page at: http://www.facebook.com/WorldWrestlingInsanity (http://www.facebook.com/WorldWrestlingInsanity)
Few fans may realize Sonny Siaki’s story of retirement from the ring is an uplifting one. A staunch believer that family comes first, Sonny donated a kidney to his brother when no other family members were a match. Years later, his brother is doing great but Siaki had to give up in-ring competition following the surgery. Sonny talks about his family life throughout the interview including an upcoming appearance they have on Family Feud. Although years removed from the ring, he hasn’t missed a beat as the former Ace in Your Face is now providing a service he feels many wrestlers can use. He explains it to James Guttman and ClubWWI.com listeners and anyone who follows wrestling news and scandals will agree that there are more than a few guys who can use it:
“I work for one of the top companies in the world right now. We’re in Forbes Magazine’s Top 100 companies – ranked #78 in the U.S. Basically, what I do, is I offer families lawyers. The reason I’m promoting this heavily on your wrestling website is because I know a lot of wrestlers out there deal with legal issues like signing contracts, child custody, divorce, the list goes on. Wrestlers today deal with legal issues and I offer them a monthly affordable rate of $25.95 a month for a wrestler, his spouse, his entire family – they’re all covered under this plan. So that’s it, man. That’s what I’m doing now.”
Siaki lays out many situations where his services come in handy for stars including everything from contract negotiations to driving violations going to and from shows. Sonny even sent along a letter of introduction for those looking for his service. The letter can be found at: http://www.worldwrestlinginsanity.com/am....nny_Siaki.shtml (http://www.worldwrestlinginsanity.com/am2/publish/newsnotes/Special_Message_From_Sonny_Siaki.shtml)
Although he’s now known for legal services, Siaki was also known as a former TNA X-Division Champion. However, that may never have come to fruition if Jerry Jarrett had his way. James mentions that just recently he had posted the first ever TNA match on the WorldWrestlingInsanity.com Youtube Player. The bout featured AJ Styles, Low-Ki, and Jerry Lynn vs. The Flying Elvises (Jorge Estrada, Jimmy Yang, and Sonny Siaki). Sonny explains in detail that the gimmick was something he found confusing at first since he’s not a huge Elvis fan. But, as JG points out, the over-the-top nature of it seemed to fit into the early theme of TNA. It was the tradition of the NWA vs. the new style of Total Nonstop Action. During the entrance, they even went to a shot of legends watching the Elvises and shaking their heads in shock. Regardless of all that, the bout was TNA’s first ever and being asked to wrestle in it was an honor for the normally cocky Siaki. He shows how humbled he was by the experience as the ClubWWI.com conversation continues:
“I remember like it was yesterday, just backstage, getting ready to walk out. I remember Scott Hall standing right there. I remember Jeff Jarrett. I was just so excited because it seemed like WWE now had a company to go up against. I just remember being nervous and excited and happy. I was just so happy that I was finally wrestling there. I started with WCW and did all the Saturday Night tapings. I did a few Nitros and Thunders. But I then left that company assuming I was going to WWF at the time.”
Sonny explains why he felt he would walk out of WCW and into WWF and the executive who made him think that. But despite all that, he landed in Total Nonstop Action and found a way to stand out in the first bout – even with the Elvis gimmick. Guttman points out that as Yang and Estrada played more of the dancing Elvis gimmick, Siaki seemed to play the gimmick in a cocky Siaki-like way. He asks Sonny if this was laying the groundwork for his eventual heelish rebirth. Siaki says it wasn’t and tells ClubWWI.com members that it actually came close to stopping that rebirth from ever happening.
“It was just me being me. Actually, I think you’re the first person I’m telling this to – but Jerry Jarrett wanted to fire me. Yeah. He wanted to fire me because he thought I was being arrogant. If you go back and watch us come out through the curtain and down the ramp, I wasn’t being an Elvis like Jimmy and Jorge was. Jerry Jarrett saw it as, ‘this guy has an attitude. He’s cocky. He doesn’t want to do it. Blah, blah, blah.’ He did everything he could to try to fire me but Vince Russo and Jeff Jarrett were on my side. They saved my job. Oh man. If I would have gotten fired, I don’t think I would be talking to you right now.”
Guttman mentions that Vince Russo’s writing may come under attack but personally, he’s a good person. JG points out that he knew Vince on Long Island long before he went to the WWF and feels he sometimes gets a bum rap. Siaki agrees:
“Everybody has a right to their own opinions. Me? I’m a fan of Russo’s. I feel he definitely brings something different to the audience. I like his style of writing. I’m a fan of Russo. I like the stuff that he writes. I do like to see a bit more in-ring wrestling stories, though. I know he likes to do a lot of stuff outside the ring. Other than that, you know, I’m not gonna lie. Vince looked out for me big time. He was a big fan of Sonny Siaki.”
It doesn’t end there. There’s tons more to the 44 minute interview with Sonny Siaki and you can hear it all right now, along with literally hundreds of other stars the second you sign up on ClubWWI.com including many former and current TNA stars like Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Goldylocks, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Nash, Kharma, Traci Brooks, Jim Mitchell, and tons more.

They just acknowledged my e-mail and Jericho had nothing but good things to say about Russo. He said that Russo was responsible for bringing him in to the WWF/E. He gave Russo credit for his first few angles and said that his only problem was that Russo left about a month 1/2 after Jericho was brought in and he was kind of seen as a "Russo guy". Just like Russo said before Jericho was supposed to go over against The Rock the last RAW he wrote but they changed it. Jericho said that his first few angles were "classic Russo" with Howard Finkel, his feud with Shamrock and being locked up in the shark cage - about Jericho on wrestling observer radio thing

I started booking in wcw in june of 2000. Eric Bischoff had asked Russo if he wouldn't mind me sitting in on the meetings. Russo didn't mind. When i booked the committe consisted of Vince, Terry Taylor, Ed Ferrara, myself, and Jeremy Borash and Bill Banks would sit in also. Banks and Borash would mainly play on their computers, although Borash did contribute alot. We all got along great. The meetings were hysterical. I got to ride in the private jet sometimes with Bischoff, Hogan and others.
Vince later told me that after a month or so Bischoff had asked to take me off the committee, and Vince was like ,"screw that! i like the guy!" I wondered why Bischoff wanted me out of there for the longest time. I pretty much surmised that it was because i was pretty vocal of my opinion of Hogan.
Here was my problem with Hulk. Now i didn't discount the fact that he was a huge draw and needed to be featured extensively on the show, but Hogan would always be talking about getting guys "on the team." In the meetings i'd be asking what team this guy was referring to? I was still one of the boys, and i dressed in the locker room with them. Nash, Hall, Sting, Luger, Jarrett and everybody else would all dress together. Except for Hogan. He had his own room. What type of team is successful where one guy is placing himself above everybody else and is asking everyone to get on his team? Didn't he realize that the rest of the crew thought he was an uncomparable egomaniac? All Hulk had to do was be a little more humble around the rest of the crew, instead of treating us like we all had leprosy. iIt doesn't take a genius to figure out that when a team has a guy like that on it in such a prominenet position, then it was going to fail.
when we were in the meetings sometimes it would be difficult for me to take things seriously. Vince would sometimes go awol, and during that time i would just drive Terry Taylor up the wall. We would argue things and Terry would go,"Man you piss me off!" and i would be like,"no i don't." I was a colossal pain in the ass sometimes. Once, i got there early and wrote out on the board something like six months worth of television of a martian invasion angle, that would start with two antennas popping out of mike tenay's head at the announcers table, and culminating at the january 1, 2001 ppv. "A Space Oddysey." Russo and Ferrara thought it was hysterical, and TT would just get so aggravated. BTW, it wasn't to be taken seriously.
We came up with some ridiculous ideas that never would've and should've made it to tv. Like a 30 second shot of an empty locker room that ended with "Coming Soon. The Invisible Man." Wings Piedmont, the evil pilot. Terry Taylor's personal favorite creation, Bill Ding, The Evil Architect, and my ingenious creation of The Evil Archaeologists, Artie Fact and Doug Hole. I really wish that crew could all get back together someday, because even though WCW was going out of business, which we knew it was, but i'll get to that at another time, we had some great laughs. It was really fun, until Johnny Ace started sitting in.
Ace brought some pretty good organization to the way matches are laid out between the road agents and production, but when it came to booking, he just didn't get it, at all. Ace thought that clean finishes were the solution to all of wcw's problems. i mean we'd spend time trying to figure out stories for guys and are trying to develop characters for guys that weren't over, and all Ace wanted to do was go over the 7 minute japanese clean finish for the match. We'd be like,"we'll go over the finishes on show day. we're trying to write stories."
Now Ace did have an excellent mind for coming up with clean finishes, but he didn't understand WCW and WWE psycholgy. When a guy beats a guy with his finish clean, the angle is over. Period. They're done. Time to move on. Bring on the next guy. I'll never forget when we were in there after Russo had gone permanent awol, and it's the week after a two week angle between Mike Sanders and Kwiwi, and Kwiwi had just beaten Sanders clean the week before and now he wants to have them wrestle again. And he's like,"we need a story, we need a story." and everyone's just completely silent for like a good three minutes. I finally say,"he beat him clean. what possible reason could they have to fight again? What matchmaker would book that if this was real?" Another two minutes of silence, and he finally decides to have them wrestle someone else(Bischoff had made him head of creative at this point.)
So after awhile Ace tells me he doesn't need me sitting in on the metings anymore, and i'm thinking thank god. So the next week after or so, Ace comes up to me and jarrett at thunder and he's like,"it's an historic thunder boys!" we're like,"How's that, Johnny?" And he says, "it's the first one without those damn girls!" Yep, you guessed right. on a show written for a male 18-34 yr. old audience, Ace decided to get rid of ALL the girls on the show. I'll never forget the phone call the day the thunder ratings for that show came out. I called jeff and we're both laughing when he answered the phone,"Yep, an historic thunder all right! Lowest rated one of all time!"
3 weeks later WCW was out of business.

Scott Hudson, former WWE/WCW/TNA announcer, is now live and active in the official forums! The following are tidbits from a fraction of his responses to the questions that you, the fans, have asked him. He is as straight-forward and honest with his replies as the rest of the wrestling personalities here on WrestleZone.com and from a historical standpoint, you'll find few people that knows any more than Scott Hudson.
Question:
Could you tell the story of what went down between Jeff Jarrett, Hulk Hogan and Vince Russo in WCW from your point of view?
Hudson's Response:
The Bash at the Beach fiasco has been written about multiple times by everyone involved but here's my take. As a rule, the announcers would purposefully learn very little about the booking of the show. We had formats and obviously knew which segments were sponsored by Skittles, etc. but, for the most part, the less we knew beforehand - the more real the passion when we called the action. We had no idea the situation with Hogan/Russo/Jarrett was going down. Russo has said that it was part work and part shoot but, in my humble opinion, the part that was a work was tiny. Everything Russo said in the ring that evening is exactly what we had heard as gossip and trouble brewing backstage for a couple of weeks. As much as I like Russo and Jarrett (that's a lot by the way), the way this scenario played itself out was unprofessional. It made for damn compelling television, though. And we're still taking about it.
Question:
What in your opinion caused the downfall of WCW?
Hudson's Response:
The downfall of WCW is a multi-headed monster. The term "perfect storm" has quickly risen to cliche status but that best describes it. The components of said storm are as follows:
* Overpaid talent with creative control clauses in their contracts took the knees out of the company creatively and financially. (I was not one of those, for what its worth.)
* There was a factional war with WCW that slowly eroded whatever common goal mentality existed there.
* The merger with AOL brought ot power jack-offs who thought they were too cool to be associated with a wrestling show or company show it was dismantled and sold at a flea market discount.
Had one of these three factors not been in place, WCW may have survived (for how long is anyone's guess, though.)
Question:
Hey Scott, in your opinion was the Russo & Bischoff era entertaining and could it have been a success had everyone been on the same page? I remember really enjoying most of it especially the Millionaires Club vs. New Blood..
Hudson's Response:
I agree. The New Blood vs. Millionaires Club feud was a great idea. When the nWo angle died down, we were set and ready with Goldberg. But, the dreaded finger-poke of doom took the air right out of those sails. It took a while to develop what Eric Bischoff described as the "umbrella angle." The over-arcing storyline beneath which all other angles took place. The nWo was that angle for a while and although Goldberg's push was not an "umbrella angle," it was hot enough to keep us riding high until the next one came along.
When we were forced to create the over-arcing storyline in a rushed fashion, the New Blood vs. Millionaires club was born. Earlier I wrote about the three factors that caused WCW's downfall. One of them was not "bad ideas." Some talent just refused to do what they were told and, when you throw that in, even the best ideas go down in (heh) flames.

The Internet is Hurting The Business
11/30/2007 by Glenn Gilbertti
First of all, let me describe to you what an internet wrestling fan(IWF) is by my definition. An IWF goes on the wrestling websites at least three times a week, thinks that Vince Russo killed WCW, thinks Paul Heyman is a genius and ECW is the greatest thing ever, loves cruiserweights and X-Division guys, loves Japanese wrestling, and takes whatever Wade Keller and Dave Meltzer say as gospel. Now we could debate what an IWF is, but for arguments sake, let's just say that the demographic I just described exists and it does represent a percentage of the pie chart. I would say about a third of IWF's show the aforementioned characteristics. Let's not contest this point because I think it would be a waste of time. For the purposes of this article, I'm talking about this stereotypical smart mark.
How do I know that they don't know what a good match is? Answer: the rating system. Most of these fans don't have any clue what a four star match is. I was at a TNA TV taping a couple of years ago and this Ring of Honor kid had a tryout match with some other X-Division guy. He was doing a Bruiser Brody rip-off gimmick complete with the boots, the "Husp, Husp" and had the "hold your wrist out in the upside down karate chop" thing working. And he weighed about 150 lbs. I'm at the monitor with I believe Harris and Storm and I'm like,"let's see how long these guys sell." Well, they have about a five minute match with every ridiculous high spot you can imagine and they sold every spot for literally almost exactly eight seconds, no more than ten tops. The thing was that this guy was supposedly having four star matches on the internet. If that's the type of matches that he'd been doing than he'd never had a four star match in his life.
So as I started paying attention to the X-Division guys, I started noticing that everyone was following the "8 second rule." Do your spot, sell it for 8 seconds, do another high spot, sell it for eight seconds. All the while, I'm reading on the internet how great these guys are and how they're being underutilized. I'm reading on the internet how these crazy high fliers in Ring of Honor need to be signed. I watch them and most of them are using the 8 second rule. I'm thinking, "Does anybody have a clue what a good match is?"
When I was booking WCW, I attended a focus group. There were 12 mainstream male wrestling fans - ages 18 to 38 - in a room being posed questions by a moderator while myself and about 4 other people from marketing were behind a two way mirror. Two of them were IWF's. We could see them, they couldn't see us, and they're being asked questions like, "Who's your favorite wrestler?" Goldberg, Austin, Rock, Sting, Outsiders they answer. "How often do you watch the shows?" Almost all of them watched the shows. "How often do you watch a ppv?" Every month. "How many times have you rented a ppv?" Zero. Wait - what was that? ZERO? How could that be? I call the moderator behind the glass and tell him to ask where they watch them. Answer: friends' houses, illegal black box, and bars. I'm like "that is unbelievable". We're writing four hours of TV a week to sell a ppv that nobody buys, but everybody sees. What a great business plan. And we wonder why WCW went out of business.
So the guy asks them if they liked the cruiserweights. "Nope". What do you mean "nope"? Nobody likes the cruiserweights?? I find that hard to believe. Why not? The consensus was that they're too small and they looked fake. I wanted to come out from behind the two way mirror and smack them. OF COURSE IT'S FAKE! IT'S WRESTLING! I mean smaller boxers have entertaining fights and such, why does their size matter. But then other things are coming out of this group like, "I know wrestling's fake, but Goldberg, man, I don't know. I think he's real." Good Lord. Goldberg's got wrestling fans thinking things are getting real again. Wow!
So I'm pretty much surmising that the reason they think the matches look fake is because they're not doing anything to make it look real. Goldberg's smashing people with three devastating moves and the match is over. Cruiserweights are smashing each other with 7 different moves and they're selling for eight seconds. But all the while, I'm reading on the internet how great their matches are. News Flash! All of the guys I know in the business are reading the internet. Just hoping and praying that they get "4 stars."
The problem with this is that this mindset of work that has been created infects the industry, because people believe what they read. That's marketing 101. People are more inclined to believe something when they read it. So you've got a whole bunch of up 'n comers coming into the business and everyone's killing themselves and selling for eight seconds and none of them are getting over because mainstream fans think it looks fake.
Here's some advice: LEARN HOW TO SELL! Instead of watching Japanese wrestling tapes where matches start with two guys standing in front of each other trading forearms to the head. Watch the main events of every WWE ppv you can get your hands on. Watch Austin, Rock, Angle, and HHH work each other and watch how long they sell. One of the main problems with the smaller guys is that they're given a specific amount of time to wrestle and they try to fit all their high spots in, but they don't figure in how long they should be selling. They end up selling everything for eight seconds and then the match is over. However, the IWF's are still putting them over and they're not changing a thing. I say those matches would be just as good if they took out a third of the high spots and selling the moves that they do more. Make the moves look like they hurt. If you don't, it just comes across as scripted acrobatics.
Now I don't want people to think that I don't know that Bret and Austin had a four star match. Or that Benoit/Angle was four stars or most of the matches that are generally accepted as great matches are what they are...great matches. My rant is against the subliminal education that is happening via the internet, where IWF's and the workers themselves are reading and watching guys that can't sell and being told that these guys know how to work, when the reality is that it's creating a style that's hurting the business.
Now, of course there are guys that are great and have a clue, like AJ and Samoa Joe. It's just that I'm worried that in this computer age we live in that a bad message is spread so fast that it's hard to find a cure. As long as the internet creates a forum where guys can be told whether they're good or not, and that message is held as gospel, even when they're not, then you can make an argument that the internet is hurting the business.

Glen Gilberti-
Here's something that everybody needs to understand: before Monday Nitro started, WCW was already dead.
If everybody can get out of the wrestling bubble that most of us live in, try to look at Turner Network Programming from an outsider's, channel-surfing perspective. TNT and TBS are lousy networks. TBS had the Braves, and that's about it. Before The Closer started, TNT basically had nothing besides syndicated shows and Friday night spectaculars like "Die Hard", 8 pm to 10 pm, and 10 pm to 12. Outside of pro wrestling, did anyone reading this watch ANYTHING on TNT? They ended up having the NBA (http://wrestlezone.com/column.php?articleid=199653038#), but I'll get to that later.
So basically you have network executives that are paying for syndicated shows and producing no original programming. I don't know their names, but the heirarchy of the Turner networks started with an indifferent billionaire, Ted Turner, five guys beneath him (one of which was Brad Seagal) and then Eric Bischoff. This is the most important thing that everyone needs to know: those five guys NEVER wanted wrestling on TNT. Period. They never liked it. They were content with sticking wrestling on Saturday night at 6 o'clock, basically out of the way of everything. Think about that. Here's a product who's target market is the 18-34 year old demographic, and it's stuck in a spot where nobody really watches, AND IT STILL DID DECENT NUMBERS!
So Bischoff somehow gets a face to face with Ted Turner and convinces him that to compete with Vince he needs a live show head to head. So Ted Turner, with optimistic indifference, and because he liked rasslin', syas "Sure." Hence, the start of The Monday Night Wars.
Now you've got to understand that through the growth of WCW over the next years, there really wasn't alot of support given to the company by those five guys that never wanted it to begin with. The company was getting good ratings and living off the PPV and ad revenue. You would think we would have been given an art department and more people in marketing, right? Nope. No art department and a marketing department that consisted of TWO, count 'em, TWO people. Remember, they didn't want rasslin' on their network. So why bother helping it? Thunder then came along and WCW was growing; the highest rated show on cable tv. Bottom line, you have network executives who's expertise were buying Law and Order for a million bucks an episode and sticking it on tv 60 times a day.
That's all these guys knew. They weren't creative, and they basically didn't know how to help in the production of a highly rated live show. Seriously, if they would have given Bischoff the proper resources, they could have turned it into the wrestling network. They could have raided the WWF and gotten their top production guys and poured some money into it and made it work. At the time, wrestlings numbers on cable were as good as the NFL's. *Sigh*, but they didn't like wrestling. What a bunch of absolute imbeciles.
So they do eventually raid the WWE (http://wrestlezone.com/column.php?articleid=199653038#) and got the writers, Russo and Ferrara. During this time WWE had started to beat us with The Attitude era, but we still did good numbers. WCW had alot of high level contracts and was still relying on ppv and ad revenue. Business was dropping, but it wasn't like they couldn't have turned it around. They started CUTTING costs, instead of putting more money in to compete.
The problem with Russo and Ferrara wasn't that they couldn't write good tv; it's that they couldn't write tv without the WWE's (http://wrestlezone.com/column.php?articleid=199653038#) production machine behind them. Russo had alot of great ideas, but they cost money. WCW wasn't willing to spend it. Why? because the executives STILL didn't want wrestling on their network.
Everyone can point to David Arquette and whatever you think from a booking standpoint as to what killed WCW, but none of it means two shits in the big picture. WCW was sytematically being shoved off the network. I know. I would sit in booking meetings and we would have 4 or 5 calls to our boss, Brad Seagal, that were never returned. I would be there in production meetings on show day when we're learning for the first time, after the show has been written, that costs had been cut, Hugh Morris had no pyro and they couldn't afford a limo for someone and had a bus instead.
The best part was that TNT was losing its ass on the NBA during this time. Put this in perspective. I'm not exactly sure of the numbers, but I believe that WCW lost 60 million bucks it's final year. The NBA on TNT lost 120 million in only six months, AND IT DREW HALF THE RATING OF WRESTLING! How in God's name can that show be allowed to stay on the air, but wrestling can't?
That should pretty much sum the whole thing up. If you've read what I've written here and understood it you would know that the people who killed WCW have never been seen by any of you before and you've probably never heard their names. But they did it. They let one of the highest rated shows on cable tv disappear, and consequently, the networks's ratings declined.
Here's the capper, Time Warner came along and they didn't want to spend the money to revitalize wrestling either. Time Warner - another well-managed corporation. Look and see how their stock price did over the years. Not surprising. So Time Warner decides to sell a company with a book value, I believe, of 30 million (not sure if that is accurate) for 2 millin dollars. Brilliant. The best part is, if this is indeed true - and I've heard it is from sources - that the ppv revenues were back ended three months or so. So after Vince got WCW, three months later he got their ppv revenue. Vince Mcmahon (http://wrestlezone.com/column.php?articleid=199653038#) bought WCW with their own money!
It's been awhile since I've divulged in this topic, so I'm not 100% sure of my accuracy, but hopefully you understand the crux of what I'm saying: that the reason WCW died was because of poor executive network management. Period!

Karen Angle speaks on her transition from stay-at-home wife and mother to on-screen cougar in heat, the possibility of stepping into the ring with Kong, and her husband Kurt's chances against Brock Lesnar...
Today's TNA Conference Call with Karen Angle was her first full-length interview since joining TNA last August, and Karen seemed eager to share her thoughts on the way that joining TNA has changed not only her life, but that of her entire family as well. Karen's transition from stay-at-home wife of a WWE Superstar to the on-camera wife of the TNA World Heavyweight Champion was a theme that ran throughout the interview. Life in the Angle family was difficult during her husband Kurt's tenure in WWE. The WWE travel schedule was extremely grueling, and it wasn't uncommon for Kurt to only be home four days a month. The intense travel schedule not only tore Kurt away from his family, but it also wreaked havoc on his body. The wear and tear on Kurt Angle's body, compounded by the strain it was putting on his family, eventually lead Karen to plead with Kurt to leave WWE. "I think probably for the last three years he was with WWE, I begged him to quit," she said today. "It was three years. It just wasn't a healthy place for him to be at that time."
But all of that changed in 2006 when Kurt Angle left WWE and debuted in TNA. The comparatively light TNA schedule gave Kurt the time he needed to reconnect with his family and heal his broken body, and for that Karen is immensely grateful to Dixie Carter. "TNA couldn't have been more welcoming to Kurt and his dreams and ambitions," Karen recalls. "I've told Dixie Carter that she's been an angel to our family. She gave Kurt his life back." The way that the TNA schedule has allowed Kurt's body to heal is particularly amazing to Karen. "As I've said before, he has not been healthier than he is right now in eleven years. I can look at him and see him doing this for another ten or fifteen years. Do I think Kurt would be where he is today without TNA? Would he be this healthy without TNA? Hell no."
TNA's impact upon the Angle family expanded again last August when Karen joined Kurt as a regular on-screen character. Karen had originally suggested the idea of having her daughter Kyra appear on-screen with her father, but it was Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo that then persuaded Karen herself to step in front of the cameras. "In previous years, with WWE, it really just wasn't an option for us. In WWE, that wasn't the life I wanted to live, and it wasn't the life I wanted my children to live. When I went to TNA, it was supposed to be just a short little thing, but it's turned out to be incredible for me, for Kurt, and for our company." Karen is especially grateful for the opportunity to be both a mother and a star in TNA. "Dixie allowed me to stay at home and have a career at the same time." Karen's transition from wife and mother to scheming valet came quite naturally to someone who has been a fan of professional wrestling her entire life. "I've actually been a fan a lot longer than Kurt has. Since the age of ten I've watched amateur and professional wrestling. I grew up watching Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes with my grandfather." But while Hogan and Rhodes may have sparked Karen's initial interest in the business, it was the career of a pair of female legends that have guided her on-screen character development. "Every girl who has grown up watching wrestling wants to be an Elizabeth. And then at the other end of it you have Sheri Martel, who was the best valet in history."
Still, you have to wonder how a stay-at-home wife and mother can suddenly become, as Christian Cage would say, a cougar in heat. Karen seems to give most of the credit to Vince Russo. "Vince Russo, I think, is an incredible writer. He's very creative. Kurt will give me advice, but he lets me do what I think is right. Vince Russo points Karen Angle in the direction she needs to go." That, of course, begs the question of whether or not Kurt approves of the direction in which Vince Russo has pointed Karen. "You know what? Kurt has an incredible relationship with Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo. Vince just pretty much knows what I'm capable of, what I can do. I really haven't had to put in any more input than my acting." But what Karen has been responsible for is taking Vince Russo's ideas and turning them into compelling on-camera performances. For Karen, this was no small step the first time she stepped out from behind the curtain. "I was very nervous. I was standing backstage shaking. Every time I go out there, I don't want to let Kurt down. I don't want to let Jeff Jarrett and the fans down." But when 411 asked Karen to name her favorite moment in TNA thus far, it was that first night she appeared on Impact that immediately sprang to her mind.
There have recently been rumors that the TNA Knockouts might be getting a television show of their own, and it would only seem natural to have Karen Angle play a key role on any such programming. However, Karen had not heard any mention of a Knockouts television show until 411 mentioned it to her, and she seems more than hesitant to step into the ring with some of TNA's more accomplished female grapplers. "Have I paid my dues? Yeah, because I've been married to Kurt Angle. But I'm not at the level of a Kong or an ODB," she admits. "It's just that I don't think it would be my place to step into the ring with these women who have worked so hard to be where they are." However, when 411 asked Karen who she would most like to work with in TNA, her immediate response was ODB. "I think ODB is incredibly, incredibly entertaining." Karen clearly understands that there is a role for women in TNA other than just as in-ring competitors, but she is also careful to keep that role from crossing the line. "You know, you're watching a show that's on from nine to eleven at night. Being a wrestling fan, and seeing the things that have been on other wrestling shows, but I don't think we've reached that point. I've done some risqué photo shoots, and would I ever get in the ring dressed like that? No."
TNA has been running an increasing house show schedule as of late, but Karen has found a way to work within the framework of that schedule. "Because of having the kids I don't do the house shows. I do the t.v.'s, but even with the house shows the schedule is no where near WWE. Kurt isn't working even half the dates he did when he was with WWE." And when Kurt is at home, Karen understands that business may still be on his mind. "You have to have two separate lives. One of the problems with Kurt is that he's always thinking about what he can do next, always thinking about the next opportunity. Sometimes I have to tell him to stop thinking about he business and remember he's home with his family." But in the end, it may not even be possible to totally separate the life of the Angle family from the world of professional wrestling. When 411 asked Karen what she would do if her own children one day wanted to pursue a career in the industry, Karen quick to say that she would whole-heartedly support her children's dreams and aspirations… as long as they were working for TNA.
Karen also made sure to touch upon the growing connection between professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. She admitted that Kurt's first inclination upon leaving WWE was to pursue a career in MMA, but at the time she didn't feel as though his body was ready for that kind of abuse. But Kurt's body has had time to heal during his stay in TNA, and now Karen isn't ruling out anything in Kurt's future. In fact, she even had some strong words concerning a hypothetical MMA fight between Kurt and Brock Lesnar. "Kurt could kick Brock's ass. Kick his ass," she repeated emphatically. "I'm sure that everyone has heard where Kurt and Brock went at it in the ring a couple of years ago. Anyone who was actually there that day can tell you that Kurt went into that ring with flip-flops on and continued to take Brock down over and over and over again."
The most striking aspect of the call was just how happy and content Karen Angle seems to be at this stage in her life. Her husband's move to TNA saved both his life and their family, and her addition to the TNA roster has provided her with more opportunities than she ever thought possible. Throughout the interview she continually praised TNA and the contributions of Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett, and Vince Russo. 411 asked Karen about the growth of TNA including the Global Impact Special and the rumored start of live episodes of Impact, and Karen was clearly enthusiastic about the future of the company she loves. But it was when she would, from time to time, return to the discussion of her family and how much she loves to spend time with them that Karen Angle seemed most proud of her accomplishments. You have to be happy for a woman who has a such a loving family and such an exciting career… and a husband who could kick Brock Lesnar's ass.

Kurt Angle claims he will be hosting a new show for Spike TV. He made the claim during a Wednesday appearance on Bubba The Love Sponge's satellite radio show, but said he couldn't provide many details. He added the fight with Randy Couture that he's been plugging lately may not happen. He also admitted that his chances of winning such a fight would be slim because he's broken his neck five times and has never had an MMA match.
Angle said he has a handshake agreement to stay with TNA "until they can go head-to-head with Raw." He admitted they have a long way to go. Angle put over Samoa Joe as a "phenomenal worker," but said he generally has to stay in bed for a full day after wrestling him. [Thanks to Dot Net reader Jagger K.]
Powell's POV: Kurt appeared on the show with his wife Karen Angle and there was a ton of sex talk. Kurt said he goes to bed at midnight and she stays out until 6:00 a.m. Kurt also revealed that Jeff Jarrett objected to the idea of him putting over Black Machismo, and he praised Vince Russo's work ethic and said he doesn't get nearly as much respect as he deserves. Fun interview. Kurt and Karen were great sports when it came to the sex questions.

Mick Foley-
I want to get your opinion of one of the most polarizing figures in the business: Vince Russo, who is on the TNA creative team. You worked with him closely in WWE during a very successful period, and then he went to WCW and things were not so successful there. There are two schools of thought regarding Russo: He's either a genius or a goof. What is your take?
You know, I always thought highly of him. And people who doubt my word can go back and see what I put in writing. I think I said that it turned out that he needed some direction for his ideas and that Vince [McMahon] was the guy who provided the direction. But I always have confidence in his ideas, and I think he was a big part of the reason why the Mankind character became so successful. Part of his talent was in letting the guys have the freedom to come up with their own ideas. It was just such a relief for me these past few weeks to go out there and hear my music in the Impact Zone and realize, wow, I can say what I want and it'll feel fresh because I haven't been asked to explain myself to 10 different people.

On TNA's booking: "If you were traveling around the country, you probably wouldn't have fans quite as interested in the backstage happenings. So you would be a lot less likely to hear, "Fire Russo" chants. I was always a supporter of Russo's. I even have that in writing in WWE books. And I think that now we have a cast of guys who could really make things happen. And I think that you will see a better focus on creative… You know, I think [Vince Russo] is a great idea guy. The challenge of coming up with something new every week is probably not fully appreciated by many people."

TNA wrestler Christopher Daniels says TNA is trying to appease Spike TV executives looking for strong TV ratings by writing storylines around Main Event Mafia-type wrestlers. He says the younger wrestlers without name brand value in the X Division receive less TV time as a result, but he understands why TNA does it.
"Once Spike TV became a priority - they were looking for a certain rating - sometimes it's hard to justify having guys that, even though talent-wise can fit the bill, you've got executives looking for ratings and wondering why it's not happening," Daniels told Mike Mooneyham for his Sunday column in the Charleston Post & Courier. "It becomes a balancing act where you're trying to get guys with names and guys with talent."
Daniels says there is a tendency for wrestlers and outsiders to question TNA's decision to focus on established stars rather than giving newer wrestlers quality TV time, but he says TNA doesn't have a choice most of the time.
"Sometimes you can second-guess decisions all you want, but sometimes you're really stuck," Daniels said. "When we're given what we're given, we only can try to do the best we can do. We can't affect what's written. All we can do is once we step into the ring, make it worth not changing the channel for."
Daniels has been pushed to the main event since returning as himself last month. He says this is "probably one of the better spots" he's been in since joining TNA several years ago. He says he could have contributed to the main event when TNA first started bringing in name brand wrestlers, but he's glad to have the opportunity now.
Daniels also has a high opinion of the creative direction of the company with Vince Russo and Jeff Jarrett spearheading the behind-the-scenes storyline effort. Daniels says he has to trust the creative team to give his character good direction and simply execute their game plan.
"Vince has always had a very high opinion of me. I think he's given me opportunities and has always been on my side," Daniels said. "He's the guy I'm following in terms of just putting my trust in and writing the character and write what he wants me to do. I feel if I can just let that go and let him do his job, that he's going to help me get to a position where I can go out and do my job in the best light possible."
Daniels wasn't always on the same page with Russo. When Russo and fellow WWE writer Ed Ferrera jumped to WCW in October 1999, Daniels had just signed with WCW thanks to Kevin Sullivan, who was high on his work as a young independent wrestler.
Daniels said he was caught in the shuffle of a classic WCW regime change and no one in charge knew who he was or what he could bring to the table.
"Vince didn't know me and Eric (Bischoff) didn't know me," Daniels said. "By the time six months had rolled around and they hadn't done anything with me ... they're paying me money and my contract was somewhat sizable for someone who hadn't been on TV. I was making too much money, but they weren't putting me on television. What could I do?"
Daniels said he used the experience in WCW as a learning opportunity that he didn't have a job for life in the wrestling business. He says he was frustrated, but has learned to earn his opportunities.
"I thought that once you had the job, it was yours. What happened was I never ever got a chance to earn my job or at least earn the reason to keep my job," Daniels said. "It was frustrating. It would have been one thing had I gone out there and hurt somebody or did bad promos, but none of that happened. I didn't do anything because they didn't have anything for me to do."
Caldwell's Analysis: Daniels has certainly been "booked" like a main eventer on the interview circuit this week to promote the Sacrifice PPV, as he's done at least four interviews that I've seen. Nice to see him receiving a legit push, but hopefully he's not a victim of the Eric Young curse of being a fixture on the media interview circuit right before a PPV, then his TV push is diminished right afterward.

This is from an interview with Kevin Nash:
Q: Thoughts on Vince Russo - Is he a changed man?
A: I've been a fan of his since Day One. Always have been. There's a lot of people who don't like his style of booking. But it's just like people who watch a movie like Closer with Julia Roberts and Natalie Portman and say "I don't really like the movie". And then I say "Did you not like the movie or did you not get it?". I think he writes smart TV and you have to pay attention. There's a lot of nuisances that can make sense that kind of connect the dots if you don't really pay close attention they don't make sense to you. For me the show Damages on F/X is one of the smartest written shows because you can't be on the phone and watch that show. You have to commit yourself to watching the show - and you have to do that with us. If you're going to criticize Russo and fast-forward or TiVo the show, you won't get the nuisances and what he's trying to accomplish. He doesn't sit down and write a two-hour show and expect you not to watch the pre-tapes and say you don't understand it and say the writing is bad. Try watching a movie with no sound. That's the beauty of living in the United States or Canada - we have those rights to criticize. I don't really care if you like my work, don't like my work, like me, don't like me; as long as you're watching I'm happy.

Kevin Nash-
KN: I think it is, because I don't do anything half-assed. If you put me in there, it means I'm thinking about it 24/7. You have to, because when you're lying there in the sun, you get an idea and it's like, "God, that's way better than I thought." And you've got to get up and you've got to write it down. And you've got to change in and so on.
I'm really good friends with [Vince] Russo. And I see what he has to go through and the situation that happened where kind of right before the pay per view, some political things go down, and he's left with a show with a bunch of gaps in it and he's got to do his best to fill it. And those are the things that take years off your life. And at this point, right now, like what we talked about earlier - I'm closer to dying. So, I don't need the stress and they can't put enough zeros at the end of my paycheck.
AC: Do you think you'd be able to do it in some kind of committee atmosphere where it wouldn't be all on your shoulders? Maybe working with Russo?
KN: I told Vince [Russo] when this situation went down, I said, "Hey" - we have always talked, and it's mostly been about my stuff - But I said, "If you have anything that you need to run by - If you want somebody just to run something by to be an ear, as a friend I would always do that." But I, in no form or fashion, want to be calling the shots. It's just not there anymore for me. I mean, if I was out of the ring maybe I could do it. But I'm in the ring, and I'm having fun in the ring. I mean, I love what I'm doing in the Main Event Mafia. My focus is doing that right now. Let somebody else come up with the ideas. I'll perform their ideas to the best of my capabilities.

Samoa Joe defended Vince Russo during an interview with the Poughkeepsie Journal. "I think he gets honestly, in my opinion, an unfair bum rap," Joe said of Russo. "I think some of the segments that the fans have problems with, maybe Vince was not even necessarily involved with. There's been a few times that's happened... He's kind like the human shield and I think it's pretty unfortunate. I can guarantee about 70 percent of the stuff that fans think is Vince Russo, he really had nothing to do with."

Booker T-
Booker T mentors rising TNA stars
By Jamie Jones
jamiejones@daltoncitizen.com
With 20 years of punches, body slams and countless pro wrestling matches behind him, Booker T has taken on a new role: Mentor.
Booker T (Booker Huff-man) is using his years of experience - and lessons learned from title reigns in WCW and WWE - to help the younger wrestlers in Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling become stars in their own right.
"For me at this stage of my game, I don't have to do anything for me," Huffman said. "It's about me trying to bring these guys to another level. My fans follow me all over the world. They know me wherever I go. So it's not about me. It's trying to help these guys get to another position."
As a kid, Huffman watch-ed pro wrestling on television, but unlike many in the industry, he never envisioned himself in the ring. Huffman admits that he "fell into it" when he was 25. He says he was "a troubled youth" and didn't play sports growing up. His real life and in-ring brother, Stevie Ray, decided to take an eight-week training course for $3,000 to become a wrestler.
"After the course, you got a little plaque saying you were a professional wrest-ler," Huffman said with a laugh.
With the plaque in hand, Huffman went to work for smaller promotions in Texas, performing in front of sparse crowds in high school gyms. Finally he got his big break when a representative with the Dallas-based Global Wrestling Federation spotted Huffman and his brother in the early 1990s. He would commute from Houston to Dallas every Friday night for 18 months, earning only $125 for each show. But the GWF had exposure through a television deal with ESPN.
Then it was on to World Championship Wrestling. Sid Vicious, who was a star in the Atlanta-based organization, spotted Huffman and his brother on a television broadcast. A few months later, as the tag team Harlem Heat, the Huffmans were on their way to playing a major role in WCW.
"For some reason I felt like we were really close in WCW," Huffman said. "It was almost like a family atmosphere. I miss those days. I actually thought I would retire with WCW. If it would have lasted, I think I would still be with WCW."
Huffman said there were several people who helped him through the years, but he credits the controversial Vince Russo for making him a star. It was Russo who pushed for Huffman to become WCW's world heavyweight champion. Russo has also been blamed for the demise of WCW.

Jim Ross -
rom his blog:
On Vince Russo: Emailer...Yes...Vince Russo played a significant role in the success of the Attitude Era of WWE back in the day but everything and I mean every thing that appeared on TV was vetted and approved by the Chairman of the Board. Everything. The talent roster wasn't bad either if you will pardon me while I pat myself on the back (Thanks, Gorilla.) But Russo should be given his due in all fairness.

Foley's thoughts on Vince Russo, and if there are ‘too many hands in the cookie jar’ where the story is altered too much: “In one sense, I think that’s correct. There are a lot of people to please. His version may not be the version that winds up making the air. At the same time, I’ve always said that Vince tries to tell too many stories. He has great ideas, but again, maybe we don’t need seven 87 yard touchdown runs in the same show. Maybe that one great run is something people will remember.”
(Referring to the famous ‘Rock, this is your life’ segment) “Remember, Vince Russo is responsible for Yerple the Clown…The closest he came to getting fired was during that segment which Vince McMahon hated. If you look at that segment, you can see that the names coming up on that screen for the teacher is not the name that I’m giving them. The girlfriend had a different name. The old lady had a different name. Everybody had a different name. It was scheduled for twelve minutes, it went 26. Vince McMahon hated that segment, and then the next day The Rock tapped me on the shoulder. ‘Did you hear about that segment?’ 8.4 or whatever it was. We both searched out Vince, and we found him…and when I say cowering, he was hiding from us because he knew we were coming looking for him.
That’s an example of something people thought was a terrible idea. A birthday party with a clown turned out to be one of the most beloved segments of all time. But if we had four segments, four birthday parties, with four clowns, it wouldn’t have meant anything. I think Vince (Russo) has this great…..his mind is a great source of wrestling stories, but I think you need that wrestling-centric force to oppose him, so that it doesn’t veer too much off the actual in ring product.”

Yeah dude I have no respect for this guy,,,, I believe in family values and yeah you should be able to whip your kids with a belt or swat them with a fly swater but the s*** this dude did is non american iraqi kinda crap,,,
They could have done a lot more with tho as far as turning it into a reality storyline,, In one of my fantasy series I turned lance hoyt into Hoyt Ben-oit where he would connect with the evil spirits of dead wrestlers,,, was a really fun character
But ya that was more of a comedy based series which would have got big ratings,, I can also think of some more reality angles in a more serious tone that would have been good coming out of the Benoit crap,,,
I mean they could have re-inacted the whole thing,,, have a superstar disapear from the shows,, have their friends get weird text messages etc,,, then show up at the dudes house find his family dead but get the wrestler before he kills himself,,, this would be awesome,, remember WRESTLING IS FAKE,,, it needs to evolve and reality storylines like that should really be what they are doing in 2012 instead they just keep moving backwards,,,,

--------
Former TNA creative writer Jim Cornette published today on his official website a strongly worded e-mail he sent to Terry Taylor, TNA Wrestling's Director of Talent Relations, saying that while he meant no ill will towards anyone in the company, he would murder writer Vince Russo if he could.
Included in the e-mail is descriptive passage saying he regularly wakes up from dreams in which he's in the act of murdering Russo and that he would willingly go to jail if he ever saw him in person again.
In an e-mail dated Mar. 19, Cornette wrote to Taylor, among other things: "I will say it because I am trying to quell the burning in my heart--I hate Vince Russo. I despise Vince Russo. I want Vince Russo to die. If I could figure out a way to murder him without going to prison, I would consider it the greatest accomplishment of my life.
"I hate him for the money he's cost me. I hate him for what he's done to the business. I hate him for keeping TNA from being competitive to WWE. I hate him for the careers, even the lives he's ruined with his shitty booking and the irreparable damage he's done to every promotion he's been involved with. I regularly wake up from dreams in which I am in the act of murdering him. I literally burn whenever I think of him. I have sworn to myself that I will willingly go to jail if I ever see him in person again, and he had better pray to his fictitious invisible man in the sky that that day never comes. I intend to make it my life's work and mission to **** with him and anything he ever has anything to do with in the wrestling business."
He added that he hopes TNA goes under "because of the stupidity Dixie (Carter) has exhibited in employing Russo and now the WCW murderers." He indicated he's mad at Jeff Jarrett for talking him into working with Russo, as well as Carter, for employing Russo and lying to him about why he was fired.
Cornette's e-mail prompted a legal response from the law firm of Davis, Shapiro, Lewit & Hayes, LLP, a firm representing TNA Entertainment.
Their letter states that Cornette's comments towards Russo constitute "terroristic threats" and that he "has understandably experienced extreme fear for himself and his family" as a result of the comments made by him. They added that Cornette's "terroristic threats" have been reported to "applicable Federal and State law enforcement agencies." The letter also states, "any further threats to contact Vince Russo or any other TNA personnel (directly or indirectly) shall be viewed as acts in furtherance of such threats and shall be pursued and prosecuted accordingly

Come on guys owenbrown is only ahead by votes,,, keep voting and we will get him eliminated
If I ran WWE, I would bring Vince Russo in who would challenge "The Board Of Directors" for control of WWE, and they will have a handicap match of Russo against the board. The WWE "board of directors" will turn out to br a bunch of clowns who will ride out in a clown car and Vince Russo beats them with a kendo stick and becomes WWE owner. He fires Vince, Shane, Steph and HHH and then challenges Cena to a match.
Cena comes out and say,
"Vince. I respect you. When I was a young guy I watched WCW Nitro EVERY NIGHT...picture in picture alongside Raw...but when YOU were on the screen, I SWITCHED shows! Vince, come on"
And Russo says,
"Hey boy, Cena, Ya a lil boy and im challengin u for ur title New York City style...in a GAY CLUB MATCH!"
And Cena says,
"Hustle Royalty...Respect!"
Russo ends up winning after Vince McMahon jumps off a striptease poll and hits Cena on the head with a rubber dildo. Russo pins Cena and becomes WWE champion. Russo then on the next show comes out and says,
"U know, this WWE title...its a fine piece...a piece of...S***!" and Russo goes to the bathroom and flushes the WWE title down the toilet! Suddely The Undertaker comes out and says,
"Vince. You. Me. MATCH!"
Russo looks scared as Undertaker crucifies him on the announce table!

Hey, I realize TNARICK and I write shows that are a little too outrageous. I agree (http://www.tpww.net/forums/#) with Conan, we don't take the concept of writing a fake wrestling show seriously enough. So, here is a show that is better than something Conan's 8 year old cousin can write:
TNA IMPACT!:
-Christopher Daniels pins AJ Styles in a hard-fought X-division match that lasts 20 minutes. After the match, Daniels offers (http://www.tpww.net/forums/#) AJ his hand but AJ rejects it, being a disrespectful COCKY heel.
-Jim Cornette cuts a promo and signs a title match: Kurt Angle vs Samoa Joe!
-Tomko is looking intense in the back
-Sting cuts a promo about how he is the best in the business and has been around a long time. Robert Roode cuts a cocky promo on Sting and challenges him to a match.
-Sting defeats Robert Roode. After the match Sting offers his hand to Robert Roode, but Roode is SO COCKY that he doesnt shake it back.
-Scott and Rick Steiner defeat the Motor City Machine Guns in a hard fought match. After the match, the COCKY youngsters disrespect the respected veterans.
-Tomko is still looking intense in the back.
-Jim Mitchell cuts a promo on Abyss and Abyss comes out. Abyss goes to beat up Mitchell, and some monster guy comes in and HEELISHLY saves him.
-Cornette is in the back cutting a promo on the title.
-James Storm drinks a beer and makes fun of Eric Young backstage
-Kurt Angle retains the NWA title against Samoa Joe. After the match Samoa Joe STARES DOWN Kurt Angle
SHOW ENDS
I give this show *****
Wrestling Booking 101 Chapter 2

Well remember rick, there are four characters in wrestling that you can use. My eight year old cousin told me so:
1. The cocky young heel: He disrespects the veterans and cheats to win. He doesn't respect anybody and will do ANYTHING to get the title.
2. The unbeatable monster: He is an unbeatable monster. He's angry and big, like TOMKO.
3. The respected veteran: Everybody respects him, except the cocky young heel who wants his spot.
4. The dark, brooding character: He's dark. He's brooding. He's a professional wrestler.
If you follow those four templates, you can't go wrong.

Steiner are stars? Jarrett was a star in WCW but only because Russo was his buddy and pushed him. If Jarrett is so great why didn't Vince offer him any kind of deal when WCW flopped? Jarrett had to go create his own company just to have a job. and Steiner well hes just bat shit crazy and never really a star. If you go on the street in any city in America and ask anybody if they have heard of jeff Jarrett or Scott Steiner most are gonna say WHO. Booker T ill give you because he was able to go to WWE and make himself a star.

Booker T-
Booker T mentors rising TNA stars

WWF FAN OWNED
TNA creative executive Eric Bischoff has nothing but positive things to say about the first six weeks working in the trenches for TNA. He says the writing staff and the wrestlers have a strong work ethic and it's refreshing to work with younger talent embracing Hulk Hogan's and his ideas to enhance the product.
In a phone interview on Thursday afternoon, Bischoff said his "Internet reputation" preceded him when he arrived in January, but he feels he's been able to show wrestlers that he means business and whatever stories the younger talent heard about him from the past have been quickly put to bed.
Bischoff said his ideal goal as creative executive is to prominently feature one new wrestler every month and grow that wrestler's character so he's elevated to the level of other top stars in TNA.
"A.J. Styles was our first project," Bischoff said. "His character has more life and become larger than before."
If Styles was the first project in January, then it seems The Pope D'Angelo Dinero is this month's project and Abyss will be March's featured star after TNA gave Abyss a strong push on tonight's Impact.
Bischoff believes some of the newer stars on the TNA roster were underutilized before Hogan and he arrived in TNA. He said he's "thrilled" to take part in helping elevate wrestlers on the roster, as he feels that's one of his goals in TNA.
Constantly building, developing, and featuring one new
(http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/TNA_News_1/article_39187.shtml#) every month could give TNA a potential competitive advantage against Raw on Monday nights, especially if WWE continues to devote TV time to familiar top stars on Raw.
On the topic of working with Vince Russo, Bischoff said it's been a "very positive" experience. He said their collaborations have been productive and he doesn't believe there has been one creative disagreement they couldn't resolve.
"It would be a lie if I said there has been anything negative," Bischoff said about working with Russo. "If I see red and he sees green, we've been able to come as close as possible to resolving it every time."
After TNA discarded the six-sided ring, questions arose on whether TNA will make any more changes to the look and feel of the product. Bischoff said the mark of any good TV is constantly looking to improve production value.
"It's a work in progress," Bischoff said. "TV is constantly evolving weekly, monthly, yearly."

Hulk Hogan -
"I come in peace. I think we've all grown and really don't live by kneejerk reactions anymore. So far, everyone has been holding their end up," Hogan said before lowering his voice. "As far as I'm concerned now that I'm running this thing with Dixie, everybody has to prove themselves and everyone has to bring something to the table. So far, the writing staff - Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara, and Matt (Conway) - these guys have really stepped up. What I like about them is when we get in these meetings, some people (would normally be like), 'I don't want to say that cause you might think I'm crazy or it might be embarrassing.' They talk. I love it when people just say what they think in the creative meetings - if it's embarrassing, it's a great idea, or it's a bad idea."

It's time to put Vince Russo under the microscope in his all new 2012 EXCLUSIVE RF VIDEO shoot interview!!!
This was RF VIDEO's best kept secret and believe me this interview gets heated!!!!
There might never be a man as controversial as Vince Russo in the world of pro wrestling. Some fans hate him so much that they chant his name to be fired at live TV (http://www.rfvideo.com/shootwithvincerussopart2.aspx#) tapings and PPV's. This very same person was the head writer for TNA for over 5 years. He was responsible for most of the major story lines that appeared on TNA TV and most TNA PPV'S as well. This all came to a screaming hault in March of 2012 as Vince Russo left the company for many various reasons that he will discuss for the very first time ever, with the king of shoot interviews, RF VIDEO.
It was time to put Vince Russo under the microscope for the first time since he parted ways with TNA and find out what was really going thru his mind when he was in creative charge of TNA!!!
As soon as RF VIDEO heard that Russo quit TNA we quickly contacted him and RF VIDEO flew him to a secret location in March for a one on one interview. We were told we were not allowed to release the interview until June because he had a commitment to do a live youshoot, so out of respect we had to hold off on announcing this interview until today!!!!
I can personally tell you that this interview will give you a whole new look at what goes on in the mind of Vince Russo. Many fans disagree with his style of writing but now for the first time, Russo lets everyone know why he does things the way he does and comes out swinging!!!
Did Russo even care what the fans chanted? You will find all of this out and more…What happened when he had to work (http://www.rfvideo.com/shootwithvincerussopart2.aspx#) with Hogan and Eric Bischoff again? What went on behind the scenes politically with them? What was it like to work with Dixie Carter and is she being manipulated? What was his real life relationship with Jeff Jarrett like? Who's side was he on when the entire Kurt Angle and Jarrett drama unfolded?
Again we ask Vince about his writing philosophy for story lines and we really pick his brain on why he does things the way he does. Vince for the first time ever addresses the fans directly and talks all about all of his criticism and I can tell you that this part of the interview gets intense!!! You will hear first hand on how he writes for TV and why he is all about ratings.
What about the problems backstage with Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy with drug (http://www.rfvideo.com/shootwithvincerussopart2.aspx#) issues??? We had to bring his name up after all this was a shoot interview, you will hear for the first time ever since Jim Cornette verbally attacked Russo his thoughts on the entire situation involving Jim Cornette and himself. What really happened in TNA when Cornette left the company?
What guys in TNA were going to get over and why some guys never got a bigger break when he was there…..What was it like working (http://www.rfvideo.com/shootwithvincerussopart2.aspx#) with Ric Flair and all of his issues…Thoughts on Paul Heyman coming into TNA and was there a conversation between the two as Paul was about to strike a deal with TNA to take over….wait until you hear this one…What really happened with the Bobby Rude finish in Philly for the PPV?
This interview was a solid 3 hour shoot interview and we asked everything you could imagine under the sun to Vince Russo and we talked a lot about his relationship with the WWE and the time that he spent there. Never before has Vince opened up like he did during this 3 hour interview. The subjects that we discussed about TNA were vital to understand his mentality.. Trust me there was nothing left out of this interview and you will be very entertained by his newest shoot interview with us.
The cat is out of the bag and RFVIDEO once again brings you a phenomenal shoot interview with one of pro wrestlings most notorious head writers of all time. Vince has worked for WWE,WCW and TNA and now along with RFVIDEO when we put Vince Russo under the microscope you will get all the answers to all of your questions finally answered!!!!!!!

Meltzer just is terrible at reporting. Totally clueless about the wrestling business. Write the entire show on a 5×7 card and let the wrestling sell the show? There is NO way that “wrestler A fights wrestler B for 20 minutes and wrestler A pins B” 2 hours a week will draw ratings.
Russo has built the attitude era based on shock, controversy, excitement, drama, and the masses talked about it. Now, because of the embarassment of fake wrestling match after fake wrestling match, nobody outside the wrestling media/bubble talks about wrestling. It’s an embarassment and nobody talks about it if that’s what you do. The show cannot be “simplified” because a Meltzer is too stupid to “get” a show more elaborate than the stuff you see on Sesame Street. The show cannot be “simplified” because a Meltzer does not want to try and guess where the show is going, but they want a show that is predictable outcome, predictable wrestling story, predictable promo where one wants to “kick one’s butt” or “wants to beat one for a title”. Honestly, Meltzer is probably the worst thing to happen to the wrestling community on the Internet. To try to convince the higher ups at TNA/WWE that HE is right is the worst thing that can happen in wrestling. Wrestling is a show.. it’s not a sport, it’s theatre.. it’s a soap opera, a weekly episodic television show
You need the cliffhangers, you need the shocking twists and turns. 24 does that every week. The second you revert to a wrasslin’ show, your ratings will dip, the casual viewers will change the channel to the Bachelor or something else and you have once again lost your audience.
Meltzer, you need to look at wrestling from an entertainment perspective. It’s not real. It’s a show; it’s theatre. it’s about characters, story, reacting to the crowd in the ring.. it’s story, it’s element of intrigue, it’s reality. It’s supposed to challenge the viewer. It can’t be simplified hillbilly wrestling. It just can’t. You want it, but the millions of people DONT. They want shoots, they want shock, they want to be excited, they want to not know what to expect every segment of the show. That’s what I want.
Stop trying to convince the companies that you know what you’re talking about, you’re embarassing yourselves.
TNARICK,,,

Hi all,
I thought I’d write about the story of Vince Russo and the Internet. I don’t think anyone really cares what I have to say but there is a link to this blog straight from Vince Russo’s blog.
As I type this, I am actually listening to Nickelback’s “Burn It To The Ground” – which is Raw’s new theme. I find it odd for Raw to have a Nickelback song as their theme. Very strange, but I’ve started to listen to it more. Nickelback is a very successful mainstream band but they really have their haters too. They make good music with good drums and guitars, so I dig their music.
To TNA news: Eric Bischoff recently tweeted about looking forward to reading Russo’s new book “Rope Opera”. The book is actually “in stock” at Amazon although it says March 1 is the official release date. If you place your order at Amazon, you will get your copy. Bischoff also stated that he enjoys working with Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara, and Matt Conway “for now”. I hope this is long term. I have basically been badgering Dixie Carter and Eric Bischoff that if these guys can work together and agree to disagree, they can really make a tremendous product that will beat Vince McMahon in time. Eric Bischoff destroyed McMahon and really changed the game by taking risks. In the late ’90s, Vince Russo actually took over the creative helm of the WWF and beat an arrogant Eric Bischoff at his own game and turned the shows upside-down with twists, sexual innuendo, violence, profanity, but all-in-all stories that kept the viewer guessing and intrigued.
They’re working together and I think Eric liked Russo even in WCW although they may not have agreed on everything. The thing that really made him “not trust” Russo was that entire Bash At The Beach incident – which Russo recently described as a major misunderstanding. They [Hogan, Bischoff, Russo] have probably patched things up. They’re all in their 50s (Russo being 49) and I’m sure they’re grown men. They aren’t going to throw hissy-fits and fight like little girls, at least I hope they won’t. They’re working with the common goal to put over TNA Wrestling – they’re both employees and have a job to do. They are hired with the expectation that they can get along with other co-workers and employees. Therefore, I hope they will make things work and I actually expect them to make things work. Why does all the backstage conflict have to happen in the world of professional wrestling?
Vince Russo:
Here is some exclusive information that I will share a little later. First, Russo on his recent interview said he didn’t have the time to watch the Raws, Smackdowns, ECWs, and Ring of Honors because he was always writing the next show. I accept this explanation and I am a fan of him. In reality, and I am willing to make a bet about this is, he doesn’t want to watch the WWF shows – they’re predictable, there’s nothing really exciting or different about them that warrants him (or me) to spend 5 hours of our time to watch every single week.
The critics like to say that “You have to watch the competition”. Well, if the competition was worth watching, you watch it and learn from it. Russo did watch WCW when Bischoff was doing the nWo during a time when WWF Raw was doing Mabel vs Jobber #1, Fake Razor vs Jobber #2 with predictable outcomes. If there isn’t a reason to watch the competition, you really don’t need to.
NOW – what I feel TNA Impact’s REAL competition is – is the other television shows that are competing with TNA. The Grey’s Anatomys, The Office, 30 Rock – and many other TV shows. I personally don’t like any of the shows I just mentioned above. My point is TNA is on primetime on Spike and they are competing against other television shows.
I find it hilarious that Russo says he doesn’t watch any of the WWE shows (which I think makes sense – nobody should have to sit through that stuff – unless you’re an online critic that loves the simplistic predictable stories and matches) but Russo on a recent blog puts over all the reality shows that he follows. He mentions “16 & Pregnant” which I had no idea what it was until I searched it on Wikipedia! It’s an MTV reality show. He mentions Jersey Shore (which I hear a lot but really do not want to spend the time to sit through) and Lost (I watched the first season and really did not like it). He spends a lot of time watching other television programs, which is fine. But he watches all these mushy MTV REALITY SHOWs. That’s fine, and that’s his taste. I don’t watch any of it because I consider that stuff to be pure pure television garbage. It doesn’t get any worse than the type of reality shows that he mentioned. I am guilty of following “The Celebrity Apprentice” though when Tom Green was on last year – and will probably check out some of it this year too.
Another television show Russo mentions is “Michael Scott”. Again, I have to turn off the television everytime the US version of “The Office” turns on. I think Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes said it best that “The Office” (US) is quantity over quality (compared to Gervais’ UK version of “The Office”). My point is Russo watches all those reality shows but doesn’t watch any of the weekly wrestling shows. I guess he’s more in line with the masses that follow those reality shows, but in all honesty, I can’t sit through any of them and really can’t sit through any of the wrestling shows as well. I, like Russo, have never seen a “Ring of Honor” show and will not go through it.
Thanks for reading this far – I will now talk about the Vince Russo Facebook story.
Basically, on New Year’s Eve, I emailed Russo asking if he would like a Facebook Fan Page – not expecting a reply. He emailed back saying he would like one because his new book “Rope Opera” was coming out. I gave him all the steps and set up his page. I helped administrate all the haters out there, helped put up all the content, and helped promote the page whenever there was something new. We came up with the “vincerusso.ropeopera” name to help promote the book.
Russo would post status updates and start to blog on the site. He later took questions from the fans and would answer fans’ questions on his wall. I would get the word out there that he was answering questions and within a couple of weeks, the page built to 4,000 fans.
Wade Keller even came on the page under his PWTorch username and when it was obvious he was intentionally trying to provoke Russo, I deleted his post and banned him from the page. He, as a in my opinion terrible journalist that he is, writes on his PWtorch page thinking it was Russo who deleted his post. When he wrote that, I started to suspect how much truth was in any of his columns and write-ups.
I usually tried to moderate the posts before Russo had a chance to do it. I guess Russo visited the page before I had the chance to moderate one morning and probably stumbled onto a lot of fans criticizing and personally attacking him. He decided to just delete the page. All 4,000 fans were gone and deleted. His reasoning was he didn’t want to deal with all the negativity.
Most celebrities and personalities do not interact with their fans the way that Russo did, and many celebrities get this type of heat as well. I give Russo a lot of credit for doing all of that but it ended up being too much.
It was then discussed that he should do a blog site with no comments allowed. I helped set up his WordPress page and after he blogged and people read and dissected each word he wrote, he did not like any of that. I woke up one morning and found all the previous blogs he wrote deleted and he emailed me saying he was done with the blog and that at this stage in his life, he doesn’t want to have every word dissected and published all over the Internet.
It was decided that he would go on a hiatus (most likely permanent hiatus) from blogging. He can still blog whenever he wants. It should be more sporadic as most people in his position probably blog once every month or once every three months. I advised him, much like Dave Scherer did, to not read any of the news sites and columns. I think Russo does spend time to read up on the news sites. I think TNAWrestlingNews.com is a good site to read because all the site does is report what is said and there are no columns or opinions. That’s how it should be. I put the blogs back up and left the page up to promote his book. Even the “vinnyru” page is kind of done without his consent – he knows about it as I told him but he said he wasn’t ready to be actively involved. He may read some of the content on there but he is in no way active on that page. When the hosts of “Monday Night Mayhem” kept promoting his Facebook page, I was kind of scared Russo would butt in and go “What Facebook page?” To my surprise, he didn’t.
Here is a brief history of all the Internet sites Russo was a part of and requested to take down:
- VinceRusso.org (former blog, media, tribute site)
- 1Wrestling.com (Raw columns)
- VinceRusso.net & Participation in forums (http://unofficialvincerussoforum.yuku.com/forums/1) in 2004
- VinceRussoForgiven.com (Site embracing God; interactive Forums)
- RingOfGlory.com (site embracing Christian-themed wrestling promotion)
- Facebook page (vincerusso.ropeopera)
- Blog page (WordPress)
Ed Ferrara on Ultimate Insiders said the wrestling business should embrace the power of the Internet. This was in response to if he thought the Internet helped destroy the wrestling business. I think a blog where a Vince Russo, an Ed Ferrara, or Glenn Gilbertti blogs about the recent events in wrestling – can really help get the fans talking, discussing, speculating, and guessing. This is a way to help the Internet Fans get into the product, or keep them talking and bitching about the show. The more you talk about the show, the more likely people will watch. I think they should utilize the power of the Internet to do all of that. You will get criticized no matter what – I get criticized for my opinion on the wrestling business on every forum I have posted at – and that’s fine. Maybe, it ends up being best to ignore all of it if you are in a position to generate discussion.
Rope Opera:
The book documents Russo’s time in WCW up until 2009 TNA. I think to the average wrestling fan who has heard a lot of crap about Russo and hasn’t really followed his career and interviews – will get a lot out of this book. I have listened to most of his media interviews and his thoughts at TNA, how the Tank Abbott/David Arquette/his World Title wins happened and I’m sure this is discussed in the book, along with Bash At The Beach (which he has written about and explained) and he has talked about his 2002-2003 experience as well. I think I won’t be “blown away” by the book because I already know a lot of it. But the wrestling fan that does not know a lot about it – I think it will be a fascinating read!
I did find “Controversy Creates Cash” written by Eric Bischoff to be very interesting because I never really heard too many Bischoff interviews. I did see him on “Off The Record” in early 1998 bragging about WCW and how WWF was never going to be competition. It was an entertaining interview that lit a fire underneath the WWF, but I never really knew much about his career, how his vision/creative thoughts really worked during the 1995-1997 era – so as a wrestling book, I found that one fascinating.
I really think the WCW run of Russo will be a good read to those that criticize his time there. I thought the shows were great but many of the online critics probably didn’t and as gullible as many of them are, really believed that Russo’s personality was what they saw on-screen.
Well, those are my thoughts on Russo watching reality shows (aka TV garbage!) over WWE/RoH (aka wrestling garbage!); the story of Russo and Facebook, and Rope Opera.

Tony Schiavone debuted, turned heel, was promised a job by Russo and then was never seen in TNA again. This entire segment lasted a good 10 minutes and achieved absolutely nothing. Fan signs clearly shown throughout this segment included "WHO CARES?" and "The 'Total Non-stop Action' has officially stopped".

"Until they make radical surgical changes in creative, and unless they get some people who comprehend the wrestling business, they are doomed to be the financial drain on Panda [Energy] that they are now and have been since inception. The core of their problems is the creative development of their product. They have to cut the cancer out. [. . .] I would deserve the label ‘stupid’ if I had made the decision to hire Vince Russo. But I made the horrendous mistake of yielding to my son’s (Jeff) wishes. He obviously has qualities that I don’t recognize or understand. How can a person who has a 15-year history of failure still keep a job?" — TNA Co-Founder Jerry Jarrett on Vince Russo
