View Full Version : The "TOP 50" Finishing Moves... In Order?
When I first read WWE's list of the top 50 finishers used by WWE / WCW Superstars, I had to believe the list was un-ordered, that the "top 50" were more or less equal within that qualification band. However, it seems that WWE really did rank Lita's Moonsault as "better" than Sting's Scorpion [Death]Lock, JBL's Clothesline [from Hell], Mankind's Mandible Claw, Bam Bam Bigelow's much heavier (and therefore more impactful) Moonsault, and even the Dudley Boys' 3D. It's really jumping the shark when a mere backflip into a splash is rated as "better" than a two-person manuever which has [kayfabe] broken wrestler's necks. Would someone explain WWE's logic on this?

Also dubiously absent are the Frankensteiner, Steinerdog (top-rope bulldog), Warrior Splash, and Chyna's Low Blow (which was pretty much the late 1990s equivalent of Big Show's WMD, just aimed at the other end of one's torso).

No Widow's Peak? Where's the love for Victoria? Great set of matches though and the CM Punk wearing Macho Man style trunks match is included! Oh yeah!

Personally thought the Stratusfaction was a better finisher than Lita's moonsault, but meh.
Where's the rage for the RKO being rated higher than the Diamond Cutter?

It's a WWE DVD. I'm surprised they even mentioned the Diamond Cutter existed.

Yeah, I haven't seen Orton do an RKO off the top rope or use a fireman's carry to twist his opponent into RKO position. The Diamond Cutter was definitely more versatile... more evidence that perhaps it really is an un-ordered list which was nonetheless ordered based on a confidential algorithm.

It's ordered by the "whatever happens in WWE is more important than anything else" principle. Like every DVD list ever produced by WWE.
He's done an RKO off the top rope though. You need to watch more stuff.
I'm also a little surprised that Uganda's Samon Spike wasn't included. Maybe he wasn't in WWE long enough to justify a "Top 50" mention. It's pretty obvious that Benoit's Crippler Crossface (invented by Dean Malenko) would be included, if not for the controversy.
The one sensible thing WWE did for the list was to list Sgt. Slaughter's Cobra Cluth instead of his Atomic Noogie.

The Samoan Spike kinda sucked. It's just as stupid as the Cobra is.

Stan Hansen should be on the list. His lariat was lethal. I probably would have put Arn Anderson on the list too. Either for his spinebuster or the brain buster. Double A is totally underrated and is def all time top ten.

Now that's serious business.

I know they'd never put something like this on that list - but the Beverley Brothers Spike Slam was always a favourite of mine

As much as I don't like randy Orton he hit Evan Bourne with an rko in mid shooting star press
Lita doing the moonsault was "pretty groundbreaking" in terms of a woman doing something like that in a WWE ring, ditto the rana etc and she probably "inspired" quite a few birds to get into wrestling with the whole tomboy/hanging with the Hardys/"being cool" element as opposed to most women before (and since) who were pretty much just tits and arse. Not better than those moves listed in the first post but I understand it being on there, she was about as "revolutionary" as it gets in terms of women in mainstream pro wrestling

All I know is "The Razor's Edge" is probably my favorite finisher of all time.
It just looked cool the way Scott Hall did it.

Diamond Cutter at 41, fuck this list.
And the RKO is at 11. Funny list.
Though the top 10 was pretty obvious, but I am a bit surprised to see Jake's DDT at number 5 though. I thought the WWE would have placed it lower.

Yeah, but one could argue the fact that Roberts knocked out Ricky Steamboat (we know the story) and was used effectively on everyone Roberts faced. Plus I don't remember seeing it being kicked out of by anyone in my recollection. When he hit it, it was over.
Go ahead feel free to prove me wrong, but that's just in my memory of Roberts.

Jackhammer - Goldberg, and F-5 Should have been in the top 15. Diamond Cutter as well, I think it wasn't cause the RKO is very similar.

Jake Roberts made the DDT unique, as a finisher. Later WWE just ruined the move and it became part of a wrestler's counter or move set. #5 is a little too high, but I think it shows what a waste Jake oberts was, he's still highly repected for hie time in the 80s and 90s.

The DDT was a finisher in ECW and WCW as well so i get why its so high up, yeah its kinda been shit on as a transition move now but its still a pretty recognisable move all the same.
