It looks like WWE will begin launching new shows even before the WWE Network debuts.

In a press conference held today, WWE, Vince McMahon and ION Television announced what is described as a "new weekly one-hour original series" set to air every Wednesday beginning October 3, 2012 on ION Television.

This just-announced weekly episodic television show will be called "WWE Main Event" and will feature in-ring actions and fit in on-going storylines into the program as well.

However, WWE has to be careful with this show, something that they did for WWE Superstars and WWE NXT before not caring about them anymore. WWE Superstars once had superstars like The Undertaker and Randy Orton, but now has lower mid-carders such as Yoshi Tatsu or Drew McIntyre.

On the other hand, NXT started off on a good note, producing superstars such as former World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett and former WWE Tag Team Champion Heath Slater. Then, the show's quality declined for season two (with its winner Kaval being released), season three and season four, before beginning a decent season five titled NXT: Redemption.

WWE has something good on their hands here, but they can't let it become "just another show." Along with that, this show should not be used to overexpose superstars. It can become a show like WWE's version of ECW to build up new talent, mixing in mid-carders and veterans while sporadically having a main eventers appear on the show.

Along with that, WWE has to be careful with the actual content that they put into WWE Main Event. If not chosen or written well, with WWE Raw SuperShow going three hours next month in July and assuming the WWE television schedule stays the same, there can be up to eight hours of WWE television a week by October of 2012, not counting three-hour pay-per-view events.

"WWE Main Event" sounds like it's a good concept, but one they have to be cautious and attentive to.

What are your thoughts on the just-announced WWE Main Event?

not huge news but figured I'd make a thread since if I posted it in 100,000 Replies, no doubt somebody else would come along and make a thread anyway http://www.tpww.net/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif

Sounds like "just another show" to me...and more of a headache for the writers.

I really like this idea especially how it will be similar to ECW part but I don't understand why this is going to be only 1 hour long.

Sounds like a re-cap show.

Aso, don't really see how it'll be like WWECW.

it's an "original series", which tends to mean new/original material

I'll wait and watch. Not a ton of info to speculate on from this thread.

Should just air NXT from Florida instead. So let's see....We have

-3 Hour Raw
-2 Hour SD!
-1 hour Main Event
-1 Hour NXT (if they decide to put it on TV)
-And 1 hour Superstars unless they're cancelling it or whatnot

8 hours of wrestling per week....a bit much don't you think?

Not really. Superstars can be written in precisely three minutes. Where I am, neither Superstars nor NXT are even on TV anymore, so I don't bother. I'm not sure I get Ion either.

What purpose would WWE Main Event really have when NXT is already used to help develop new wrestlers and Superstars to give the lower card some tv time.

They already give enough time to higher tier stars on both Smackdown and Raw to the point of probably not needing an extra hour just for them.

Even as a recap show it might be a bit redundant considering they can use their Youtube channel or the internet for recaping stuff.

I'm sure it's a great show. I watched it all the time when it was on TV. I just don't like watching shows on the internet for some reason. I need it on TV.

It is a whole new NXT/FCW, not jobber central.

Used to be PAX-TV a Christian tv station that edited shows for content more than needed. Now they air Psych, Monk and House MD. Not sure if they still over-edit stuff.

I give it three episodes before it turns into another Superstars/NXT.

I understand that. I just said that I don't like watching shows on the internet. As in on a computer screen. I'm not saying that it sucks or anything.

WWE will be airing almost 12 hours of original programming during a PPV week... 3 of those hours will be dedicated almost exclusively to the up and comers. Seriously, if they could hire writers would had any clue how to start to build up some guys to be the future of the company, they'd be in such a perfect position right now.

Why would Ion buy this?

They are desperate for brand-new first-run shows. Trying to see if the WWE universe will be attracted to its other shows.

WWE does not care about any show not called RAW or Smackdown after a couple months, the do this all the time Ion must know this.
