View Full Version : What If: The Invasion storyline as two invasions or phases?

Could the whole idea of a dream invasion storyline work had the WWE decided to hold a second wave or attempt one once the bigger names of WCW arrived shortly after the original storyline ended?
The WWF knew when those big WCW contracts would have expired from AOL and a second wave of big WCW stars would have fixed problems the original invasion had with its lack of big stars.
The new invasion phase would have been seen as a legit threat than the original needing WWF star defectors just to balance the sides.
The original phase still ends the same way but with a new phase starting after a short period of peace with a bigger payoff at Wrestlemania being possible.

I can't imagine the big names would have changed the booking TOO much. It still probably would have been looked at as one of the all-time flops in WWE history. Mainly considering that a mid-carder in WWE in Vince's eyes was bigger than anyone in WCW barring like... 2 people.

That could've worked. Plus with Benoit and Triple H returning from their injuries and the nWo involved, it would definitely be better and legit than the first wave.
A Re-Invasion with Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Scott Steiner, DDP, Booker T and Eric Bischoff leading the charge could have been big business.
But an Invasion without Goldberg still feels wrong. Goldberg needed to be the leader of the WCW Invasion because he's the one guy who could come at The Rock, Undertaker, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle and Kane and look like a legitimate threat.

I don't think a reinvasion would work. Same old shit and all. Vince should have just paid up for a few of the big names. But as mentioned, didn't change the booking.
They had booker and ddp. Good start. Just needed flair, Goldberg and Steiner and I think it would have worked. Then let the now show up like they did later.
