View Full Version : Microsoft to buy activision/blizzard?

Vivendi is strangled by a pile of only slowly declining debt that currently stands at about $15.5 billion. The sale of Activision Blizzard, which is majority-owned by Vivendi, could alleviate the growing pain substantially. The 60 percent stake Vivendi holds is estimated to be worth about $10 billion. According to Reuters, Vivendi may have started fielding potential buyers, which reportedly include Time Warner as well as Microsoft.
UH OH SPHAGETTIOS. I never though Activision Blizzard can be in trouble, they own COD and Warcraft right? Those games make billions of dollars a year. I bet if MS buys them, they will be Xbox exclusives.
What do U think?

If MS does make the purchase they would still use the Activision Blizzard name and no they would not make their top games exclusive to one console.

There would be too much money lost by making a game like that an exclusive title.

Well for 1:

and 2: Nobody would be willing to shell out $200-300 for a console just to play 1 game

If I was told,
"The only way ur playing COD MW4 is if you buy the new Xbox720 3D, I would go and buy it"
Id even pay a monthly fee for COD goodness

Honestly, and maybe it's because I'm older, no game is worth doing something like that.

Its entertainment and it just means the cost went up so for fun is okay

They might release it on Xbox a couple days early though.

They'd lose too much money restricting it to an exclusive title. And if Microsoft held a majority share, they would note that.
What they would do is have Acti-Blizzard make exclusives, or import PC games (like Diablo) to console. And those would likely be exclusive.

If Microsoft were to buy the huge ownership stake, its probably for the Blizzard games just because of the huge revenues Blizzard generates from their MMOs which is why Activision bought Blizzard to begin with. They'd get the Asian presence they have been struggling with due to the Diablo and Starcraft series while boost their own PC presence with the MMOs from Blizzard.
I could actually see the CoD being a timed exclusive for the Xbox brand probably like an exclusive month to help push Xbox sales similar to what is done with DLC. Would need to really boost the PC sales of the series to justify it not being on other consoles and handhelds in terms of revenue.
