View Full Version : Has the Sin Cara experiment run its course?

Honestly, I don't mind the character itself - its unique and very marketable. Its just the wrestler behind the mask is only ever acknowledged whenever there is a botch.

I almost wish they had Hunico still under the mask instead, or Scott Norton as a substitute. The character works and is over, its just that the wrestling ability of Mistico is overshadowed by the mistakes made, even if only one mistake is made a match.

What are everyones thoughts on this? Should WWE call it a day with Sin Cara? Should they persist with it? Or just get someone different under the mask altogether?

For someone who is supposed to be the greatest Mexican wrestling hero of all time or something like that, his mistakes are very noticeable and take much away from his matches. Rey Mysterio far outclasses him in this area. He makes mistakes at times but never to the level that they might as well spllash the word "BOTCH" across the screen as if we were talking about Batman punching the Joker in the face.

As far as the "Sin Cara Experiment" having run it's course, I'd say yes and no; no because to me the "Sin Cara Experiment" is actually the "potential replacement for Rey Mysterio" experiment. WWE definitely needs a high flying Mexican luchador to fill a niche that Rey really capitalized on; I think it's getting more and more obvious that Sin Cara isn't the guy, so as far as that goes, yes, it has run its course, and they need to start looking for someone else to hang the sombrero on.

Does signing PAC have anything to do with this? Differing styles, i guess, but put him in a mask, and it should do good?

I fast forward every match Sin Cara is on. I can't stand him and especially can't stand the Diva's pillow match lighting that he wrestles in the ring with. Let him go!!

I thought unmasking Hunico was a pretty good move. I like the latin thug character and I think him and Camacho are a good combination. I think they don't need the lighting or a crazy entrance, I think he works just as a luchadore from Mexico

I think he was pretty much doomed from the start when the guy speaks minimal English, has worked "highly choreographed" lucha matches with other lucha guys his entire career and is thrown in at the deep end on the biggest stage in pro wrestling against a bunch of guys from different backgrounds who now work the WWE style. I've said from the start they should have sent him to FCW to "acclimatize", even CM Punk needed development. What chance did Sin Cara have? Feel sorry for the guy, like I said in the PPV thread he's still swimming against the tide bless him. But I'd still like to see him go and spend 6 months in FCW. Or get Rey back and have them do "the loop" for the next 6 months or something.

Hahaha yeah, when I read "Scott Norton as a substitute", I was like "Huh? Norton is like 100lbs heavier than Sin Cara!"

I've never seen a Mistico match, but I doubt he botched as much in Mexico as he does in WWE, otherwise he wouldn't have been signed.

Maybe he feels tremendous pressure to do "big spots", to be a fast high-flyer (thanks to what Rey Mysterio Jr did back in his prime), and that probably makes him botch so much.

I feel the only thing that can save him is to have him play heel in a feud with Rey Mysterio Jr.

I'd bet his botches have more to do with slight bits of mistiming and communication failures, which again comes back to being thrown in at the deep end

Still think the mood lighting might be playing a small role in his botching with the way his mask covers the eyes and the darker in-ring lights must mean he barely can see that well during a match.

He does seem to rush certain spots either because of the routine or because he really wants to impress the crowd but ends up botching because of a mistiming or the other guy isn't used to Mistico's style.

It's called the "Shelton Benjamin" effect, I believe.

I just don't think he's confident, plain and simple.

I don't think he's ever stepped into a WWE ring feeling 100% comfortable.

I agree. BUT.... it happens every match. Its annoying. Makes me sick. Runes a match. Kills momentum. and thus I lose interest.

oh yeah, his confidence is bound to have taken a bit of a beating, especially given his status in Mexico and his status for Vince. I think you'd have to be Brian Knobbs levels of obnoxious for it not to have. His style probably doesn't do him many favours with some of "the boys" either

Didn't they have a black guy portray the Blue Blazer at one point during that period where Owen Hart was denying being the Blazer? Should do that with Sin cara, have an obviously different wrestler portray him week in week out, black guys white guys, giants, super heavyweights etc. :shifty:

Can't say I remember that.

From what i remember he only appeared in the aisle after owen hart wrestled a match, think it was just a one off thing when he was going through that storyline.

From wiki:

To prove that Hart was not the Blazer, he showed up beside the Blue Blazer, who was a masked Jarrett. In a later attempt to prove that neither Hart or Jarrett was the Blazer, they both appeared next to a man in the Blue Blazer mask; however, it was obvious that a black man was under the mask (Hart's former tag team partner Koko B. Ware).[

His matches with Kidd/Primo were decent, think like CSL said, working with guys who aren't used to that Lucha style isn't helping him, ideally you want to throw him back to FCW for a while and learn the WWE style or at least have him work with guys on house shows to acclimatise to how they work rather than remove him completely from TV.

I actually quite enjoy Sin Cara's matches. I don't get the mood lighting, but otherwise he's generally one of the highlights of the show to me.

I've said it before and said it again... Sin Cara will never make it big because of the very thing that supposedly makes him "marketable". His mask.

People just can't get into a dude whose emotions they can't see. Unless he goes to a half mask, he is doomed.

Kinda hoping that they phase out Hunico and make him Sin Cara again for good.

They should make Primo Sin Cara.

I thought Primo was awesome last night. He'd be a better Sin Cara than Mistico.

Close. Owen Hart was secretly black.

I agree with CSL. The WWE made a huge mistake by putting so much pressure on Sin Cara from the start, and throwing him right into the deep end instead of giving him that needed time in developmental to translate his skills into the WWE environment.

Is the experiment a failure? Absolutely not. But I do think the "jam Sin Cara down the peoples' throats" movement should probably take a back-seat to a more conservative one. A trip down to FCW, or being assigned someone who can essentially help him side-step into the WWE more effectively could be a big help. How about Tyson Kidd? That guy is fucking phenomenal, and the idea of Kidd and Sin Cara teaming engorges my penis.

"Who's that guy?"

"Oh, he's the new <s>Stunt Cock</s> Blue Blazer."

"... and you don't see a problem with this?!"

Actually, the Scott Norton thing could work. Hell, they did the same thing with Cedric the Entertainer/Mark Henry/Hornswoggle IN A SINGLE MATCH!

I think Sin Cara has potential, but he was put in a position to fail because of all the issues already mentioned. I just hope he doesn't really hurt someone by mistake.

Does the weird lighting during his matches bug the hell out of anyone else? Also, like someone else mentioned, I could see how it could be distracting and difficult to see during his match with the weird lighting, especially with the mask on.
