View Full Version : What was the worst act you have ever seen live?

Having this discussion with KK at the moment. I went to see Ozzy a few years ago and this band called "In This Moment" played just before he went on. Now normally you would just want this band to hurry up and finish for the main act unless you enjoy them.
I considered stabbing my eardrums with my keys. The girl "singing" was off key, high pitched and shrieked like a fucking banshee on LSD. I was never happier to see a band get off stage.
If that doesn't get the point across, I have seen Nickelback live.

Slipknot, as Fangerl already knows.
Can't think of anyone worse.
Slipknot was part of a lineup; I did not go to see them intentionally.

Support band called Middle Class Rut who seemed to have been thrown onto the bill at the last minute. Dull music, terrible on stage banter.

When I saw Foo Fighters 10 years ago, they were supported by Cave In. They bored the hell out of me for 45 minutes. Foo Fighters went on to give a pretty good performance, but Cave In nearly ruined the evening for me.

It was a support band for Fozzy called "Jettblack".
They played for what felt like forever, which made Fozzy come on stage about twenty minutes later than scheduled, and because of that, I had to leave during Fozzy playing to catch the last train back home. I wasn't pleased.
The songs they played consisted mostly of just guitar solos from the lead singer and when he did sing, it was pretty bad. For some reason, he felt the need to be topless on stage, which caused some girls at the front to scream insanely at him, though when Fozzy came on stage, those girls suddenly disappeared.

Support band for System of a Down and Mars Volta. It was called Bad Acid Trip. The guy fucked a doll on stage. Not a blow up doll. A doll that you give babies.
Mars Volta was pretty terrible too because the whole band were high as fuck and couldn't give a shit about the performance.
System of a Down was OK, but at least very energetic.

If that was in the M.E.N then I was at that same gig. I remember Cave In not being anything special but they weren't horrible or anything. Then again I was pretty young so I probably just thought anyone who was on a stage was good.
As for myself, support acts and unknowns aside, probably Marc Almond about 2 years ago. It was just dreadful, I left after Tainted Love.

Yeah, it was at the M.E.N. Arena. See, Iggy, our fates were already intertwined.

For my birthday this year my better half got be tickets to see Gwar.
The opening act was a band named Warbeast. Now this might suprise you, but they thought they were a death metal band. They were horrible. At one point the lead singer tried to get us to chant there name, but we all ended up chanting we want Gwar.
Gwar was awesome though, totally made up for it.
Counting Crowes were pretty terrible. Won free tickets and saw them with Collective Soul and Live.
The lead singer, that chubby guy with the dreadlocks, was drunk before their set started. Two songs in, he threw his shoes into the crowd, sat on one of the floor monitors, and bitched for 5 minutes about how he just broke up with his girlfriend.
Only concert I've ever left early from.

They are good, just that El Vaq and I have a wedge driven between us by his hatred of them. :'(
Terrifying that it was 10 years ago though.

Abbatoir, the heavy metal Abba tribute.
I wasn't expecting much, it sounded like a laugh, but I've never seen a band look so embarrassed to be on stage. They played a biker pub where you have to work hard to win over the crowd if you're not playing Deep Purple covers, and by the half way point were clearly just trying to get through their set to pack up and go home as quickly as possible.
In the professional realm, Trivium or Skew Siskin, take your pick.

I've gone to some rap shows around here where the local radio stations get a bunch of local "artists" to perform a few songs. On some occasions there are 14 year old kids who try to emulate Lil Wayne and other garbage like that. Probably the worst shit I've had to endure. I usually spend that time drowning myself at the bar.

Caught the first 15 minutes of a Denver band called 3oh!3 at the Bluebird theatre about 3 years ago.
It was pretty awful, they sounded like a Sublime tribute band....a sloppy, horrible Sublime tribute band.
If their music wasn't bad enough, they were constantly pandering to the crowd by peppering their set list with Denver references to get cheap pops.
Runner-up would probably be Tool, although that's through no fault of their own.
I could tell from looking at the stage and from what I could hear that Tool was putting forth a lot of effort.
However, the venue was the Coors Amphitheater, which has an pathetic sound system and awful acoustic resonance.

Goldfinger woke me up when I was taking a nap at UMass. I was sleeping in my room and i heard 99 red baloons. Looked out of the window and there was a big festival going on in a place called the "SouthWest Horseshoe."
Worst gig ever cause it woke me the fuck up.

The Casualties were an opening act at a show I went to a few years ago. Just horrific. I also nearly died as a shitload of 250 lb skinheads in spiked leather jackets had shown up seemingly just for their set and left before the main act.
I had secured a spot near the front of the stage and suddenly all the skinheads showed up and rushed the stage and I thought I was going to get pressed to death against the barricade.

The Academy Is opened up for KISS last time I saw them. My sister & I both wanted to die. Awful awful awful.
The time before that, Buckcherry opened for KISS.
Motley Crue is a marked improvement.

I've seen a lot of crappy emo bands in my day that I can't even remember. Probably the worst band I ever saw was Plain White T's. They opened for my mates band, way before they blew up. Thought they were absolute rubbish
I saw this band Room Runner about a week ago and they might take the cake. They were opening for Dan Deacon and John Maus on a pretty big stage, on the Hudson River. Prob like 1000 people there or so, They got on stage and started bragging about how this was their first show and because they "knew the right people" they got to open for Dan Deacon. None of their shit worked so they started really late. Then they played and in the middle of the first track the lead singer threw a temper tantrum and smashed his guitar and stormed off stage. Then he came out and apologized for being a bitch. Then they played a couple of songs that really weren't too bad but had really annoying banter. Then the bassist threw a similar temper tantrum and also stormed off stage and the set ended. They weren't terrible, but it was probably the most obnoxious display I've seen.

I went to see Blink-182 at the height of my fanboyism in 2002. They were drunk and really, really bad. I left after 4-5 songs.
On the positive side, I at least got to see Jimmy Eat World and Green Day before they went on, and they were both great.

In This Moment are awesome, stfu Icebox.
Worst ever was a local band called ASK (Another Saturday Knight), who sounded like the Pixies, if the Pixies were the worst band of all time.
In terms of bands people might actually know, the only one that really sticks out was when I saw Sloan. They had no stage presence whatsoever, and only played shit off their brand new EP that no one knew.

Most recent one to come to mind would be 2 Cents. They were between Clutch (the headliners) and Righteous Fool (a Corrosion of Conformity side project), and god DAMN did they stick out like a sore thumb. First song in, I realized they sucked, and went to the front of the club. Tried again during their third song, realized they STILL sucked, and then saw my friends at the front of the show.
I considered their name ironic because I wouldn't pay 2 Cents to see them. The ticket price was worth it for Clutch alone. Seeing Righteous Fool (and catching a T-shirt at the end of their set, and getting to chill with Reed Mullin while 2 Cents proceeded to suck up the venue.) made the show a BARGAIN.

I won tickets from Kiss FM to go see Gwen Stefani several years back at the Dr. Pepper "stage on a field" in arlington tx. The only thing I wanted to do was escape.... get the referance?..... and then Akon came out belting YoooooHooooo WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOooooo over and over and over again.. blech so hard to hear.
On the other hand I went to a no doubt concert awhile after that and it was awesome!

I don't know what the all around worst band I've ever seen live was, but the most boring band I've ever seen live was HIM. Just no discernible personality at all. I could have listened to a CD and looked at a poster and it would have been the exact same thing. I was also at the Puddle of Mudd show when the singer got arrested for being so drunk and obnoxious (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1485264/puddle-mudds-scantlin-arrested-after-show.jhtml), and while it was awful, it was also pretty hilarious. Fortunately, I was expecting it to be awful anyway so it may have been better than if they had actually played.
