Sherman Hemsley, best known for his portrayals as George Jefferson on All In The Family and its spinoff The Jeffersons, Deacon Ernest Frye on Amen, and B.P. Richfield on Dinosaurs, passed away today at the age of 74.

A damn shame. He was very charismatic.

Wow, I was just checking out his Wikipedia page yesterday. :-\

As a UKer, I wasn't really familiar with "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" as they never got broadcast over here, but I did know he was well known for those shows, so he wasn't some random actor to me.

I know of him through his guest appearances on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and even "Sister, Sister", along with his voice acting on "Dinosaurs".

It's sad news. He seemed like a cool guy and I always enjoyed his acting and the characters he portrayed.

I always thought he was much older then 74.

that means he was in his 30's when he started on All In The Family and The Jeffersons

he always looked like he was in his 40s or 50's back then

Isabel Sanford was apparently 21 years older then him

I loved him as George Jefferson, but I grew up on him as BP Richfield:

Man, there aren't a lot of Richfield clips on Youtube.
