I'm clouded with anger and confusion that Jericho wants to go tour with Fozzy, but I can see how passionate he is about everything he does. To un-cloud, I will have to review the tapes and see if he can win me over The Snake, because I don't remember Jake "The Snake" pissing me off when he wrestled.

Honestly preferred Jake in every aspect, plus he invented the DDT c'mon.

lolwot.
Though I'm confused as to how a guy who can't even sing on-key is capable of touring at all.

Jericho all day, every day for me. This isn't even an issue of contribution to me; Jericho has pretty much always entertained me, while Jake only sometimes did.
I've always been a jerichoholic. One of my all time favorites.

This.
Jericho is better than Jake Roberts in every way imaginable. Probably a better drinker too.

Jake's shennanigans with drugs/alcohol and knowing how awesome he could have been as a trainer/road agent, I gotta go with Jericho.....

Jericho, because I'm more familiar with his stuff so he entertained me more.
Hard, chose Jake the GOAT b/c the Randy Savage stuff.
Totally forgot bout Jericho/Rey feud which is my fave series of matches like ever.

Jake was fantastic, especially his feud with Savage, but I vote Jericho here. His WCW heel run was ridiculously entertaining and he's been great for most of the stuff that followed.

It was a bit tough for me, but I went with Jericho as he was more consistently good. If Jake didn't have his demons, he would've been one of the greatest of all time. I'll give Jake his due, and it's hard to top his psychology.

THIS.... Not even a contest... How many belts & different companies did Jake work for again? Jake was awesome, but not even close on the mic either than CJ...

I look at this poll in this way:
Chris Jericho overcame tremendous odds (especially his size), and achieved greatness. He worked his ass off, and did more than many people thought he would.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts had all the tools necessary to achieve greatness too, but threw it all away because of drugs and booze. In the eyes of many, he underachieved. Never made it to the level he could've.
In my opinion, Jericho wins it.

Jericho.
Ignoring the differences in styles, felt Jericho was a better wrestler in terms of skills while being a lot better with promos than Jake. Also felt he had a lot more memorable feuds and moments than Jake even though Jake had his share of great moments.

I voted for Jericho, but I cannot just let people keep spouting off this nonsense that Jericho is obviously a better promo man than Jake. Jake was a fucking MASTER with a microphone.

That promo is hugely overated in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it's not as great as people always make it out to be when trying to play up how incredible Roberts is meant to be.

That was my favorite thing on television when I was a kid. My mother would always call me while I was watching it and say "Gosh Darn it Scott Roberts you're always watching that same episode of Boy Meets World." And I remember the title to this day(because I watch it once a day), it's called "Sixteen Candles and 400-Pound Men". But the only problem with it is that Jake "The Snake" loses to that fat pud Vader.

Yeah. I voted for Jake but I knew Jericho would take this one by a mile mainly because Jake was before a lot of people's time. I wasn't gonna debate too much over who was better because it was so close to me but people acting like Jericho is far and away better on the mic is just crazy. Jake was a master at cutting a deep promo with actual content. Jericho is definitely not far and away worse than Jake on the mic but Jake was always captivating on the mic. Jericho gets into a lot of cliches.

I love Jericho, but in my mind, his best time was in WCW with Ralphus. Maybe because I stopped watching wrestling and haven't really followed Jericho in WWE, but I'll never forget Jericho's WCW theme music and being escorted to the ring with Ralphus. He was my favorite mid-carder in WCW.
Jake is a living legend. :y: I'm confident that if you conducted a random survey on the street, more random people would know of Jake the Snake than Jericho. Wrestlers are entertainers... the best are those whose memory goes down in the pages of history. Jake is one of the quintessential WWF characters.
I love this video, cheesy by today's standards, but it's great:

so I think this round has gone the way most of us expected
Jake was a wonderful talent, but just didn't have the exposure to today's audience or the accolades to compete with Jericho.
Next matchup, I have no idea what's gonna happen. It's gonna be good. Probably not Austin/Taker good, but good nonetheless.

Jericho has been on Dancing with the Stars (which already requires SOME, even if it's a bare minimum, level of fame), hosted a game show on ABC (Albeit short lived. It was a prime time game show on ABC), is the lead singer of a rock band that performs with other bands who surely have non-wrestling fans, is on all those Vh1 shows that are pretty popular...
Jake obviously doesn't have the resume of Jericho but if you say Jake "The Snake" Roberts to non-wrestling fans, you're definitely gonna get some people who know exactly who you're talking about. Even if it's "The guy with the snake". You could make an argument that he's one of the 10 most recognizable names to people outside of wrestling.

All I know off Jake is the broken down boozed up guy. Jericho has been for the past decade and still is a upper mid card or main event guy. Did Jake ever reach those levels for a sustained amount of time?
Supreme Olajuwon
08-08-2012, 05:49 PM
No, but it was also much MUCH harder to get a sustained main event run back then. You were either Hogan, Warrior, Savage or the flavor of the month heel set to be vanquished by aforementioned Hogan, Warrior, and Savage.
