Gonna take a guess and say both Snakes will be playable in two separate eras of time.

It's for the PC, PS3 and 360. That's what I've read on Kotaku, when they reported what was said at PAX.
The gameplay shown was done on the PC using PS3 specs. I'm not sure I can imagine the 360 version looking like that but GTA V looks good, so you never know.

Yeah, like Kojima's gonna waste his time de-shining a turd to put it in the 360.

According to Kojima, Naked Snake's appearance is not an indicator to any past MGS games after people thought he would be from the MGS 4 era due to his grey hairs. Snake himself is a lot younger than what was shown in trailers.

Kojima took to Twitter to address some speculation regarding the color of Snake’s hair and beard, “Saw many tweet about Snake in grey hair after taking off the goggle. This is due to the rim-lighting.”

I don't really care about the age of Snake but I do think it looks like they've remodeled his face. I think he looks a little like Ron Perlman now.

I'm sorry, but as badass as Pearlman would be getting the Nick Fury-esque retconning to a more current cool choice, the image of "the greatest soldier who ever lived" still belongs to this man:

http://totallylookslike.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/sean-connery3.jpg
I wish I didn't have to use the "totally looks like" image. That's kind of cheating since that was done by design.

I get that he's wayyy to old for that to happen now (unless said movie revolves around 'Intrude N313' and thus not too much action from him), and his voice is just... wrong being that they established that he and Solid basically sound the same. However, I'm too old for that to be whitewashed out of existance for me.

Kojima announces a few details such as Snake's base is upgradable, possible smart phone app could be made to let players manage their base while away, and the weapons R&D from Peace Walker returns in this game.

Snake will have a home base in the game’s open world which can be upgraded and managed as the game moves on. Snake will have the ability to walk around the base and players can fortify it as they see fit. Kojima also mentioned that the team is working on a smartphone app that will allow players to manage their base while not playing the game.

Finally it was announced that weapon R&D from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker would be returning in Ground Zeroes.

According to Kojima, the game could end up getting cancelled or postponed due to Konami becoming potentially worried with all the stuff and topics he wants the game to have.

“"Over the past 25 year [sic] I have tried to work with the Metal Gear series to introduce more mature themes, but really it hasn't gotten there yet," said Kojima. "Compared to movies and books it still has a long way to go. That's precisely what I want to try to tackle with Ground Zeroes. Honestly I'm going to be targeting a lot of taboos, a lot of mature themes that really are quite risky. I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn't sell because it's too much."

He did hint if Konami does end up postponing the project, he will still fight to get it released and won't stop developing the game.

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/09/06/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-the-splinter-cell-effect

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes seems, above all else, safe, despite its subtle but significant changes. The prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which eases players to the main game’s open-world elements, introduces numerous new elements to the franchise, none of which stand out as exceptionally interesting on their own. In unison, one after the other, and in the context of the next Big Boss story, these changes shake up the norm, disrupting expectations with more modern systems. The stealth, action, interrogation, infiltration, and navigation mechanics feel familiar in ways that feel equal parts right and wrong.

[...]

The 24 minute demo -- which showed much of the same footage we’ve seen before, now featuring blazing combat and new character traits -- left me wondering what I’d just watched. The answer is simple, but conflicted.

Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain represent a strange new era for Metal Gear Solid, one where systems (finally) take precedent over the story, which Kojima’s previously stated plays a smaller role than ever. Big Boss is an easier badass to play, a man with newfound skills that enable him to get around a larger world and interact with it in more meaningful, accelerated ways.

Part of me hates seeing Metal Gear give into what everyone else is doing.

The rest of me -- the majority -- is excited to see if it works, and what kind of trouble it’ll let me get into.

When I left the debut gameplay demo of Ground Zeroes, one thought looped in my mind: This is an exceptional Splinter Cell sequel

Ground Zeroes is deviating from what’s always made the series special to me. If you’re a Splinter Cell fan, you may be having deja vu. This has “Conviction” written all over it.

Before a guard enters an alert state, you’ll get a button prompt indicating you’re busted. Hold the left trigger, and you’ll briefly freeze time, giving you the opportunity to pump a couple quiet bullets into an alarmed enemy’s eyeballs.

regenerating health

Fleeing from a loud fight -- which appears to rely heavily on lock-on aiming

Boss sprints, slides, climbs, and tags enemies like Sam Fisher has since 2009’s Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Good god. The thing MGS has over Splinter Cell is the story at least, but I'm a little worried. Health regen... Fuck me.

HOWEVER, it is coming Spring 2014 and priced at £20 for a 360 or PS3 download or boxed for £30.

The PS4 and XB1 download versions will be £30 and there has been no boxed version announced.

Kojima's "ground breaking announcement" from the special Spike TV PS4 launch show was the ability to play as Classic Snake for Ground Zeroes.

The Metal Gear series has a rich history on the PlayStation platform, and because of that Konami is including a special throwback mission in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The PlayStation-exclusive is called the "Deja Vu Mission," and it will let you play as Classic Snake in all his polygon ugliness.

According to Hideo Kojima, he sort of regrets having to split Metal Gear Solid 5 into two games while save files from Ground Zeroes will unlock special stuff in Phantom Pain.

Speaking with Famitsu magazine, Hideo Kojima talked a bit about the decision to split the upcoming Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain into two games, and how he would have rather "released it all at once." Kojima hints that Phantom Pain will most likely come out when the PlayStation 4 "becomes more spread out," which implies a larger install base, and thus a larger wait.

He also touched on the fact that during GDC 2013 Konami showed off a Fox Engine demo, leading people to believe that Metal Gear Solid V was already complete -- but that's far from the reality. Since the game will require "much more time," the decision to split Ground Zeroes into its own game was made to to "allow fans to at least play the prologue, ahead of time." Originally Kojima wanted to offer it up as a download-only to keep things cheap, but since "some places don't have the best connectivity," a physical version will be shipped as well.

Finally, Kojima hints that save data from Ground Zeroes will unlock something in Phantom Pain eventually, but there's no hints as to what that may be.

Konami has shared some more info in regards to the link between Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain. It looks like if you buy GZ "early on" you'll get DLC to use in Phantom Pain at launch, which grants you additional resources in your Mother Base to "give you an edge."

This limited offer applies to the first-run retail copies and for a limited time digitally. If you buy Ground Zeroes at any point, you'll get extra "prisoners of war and VIPs," which will be added to the Mother Base staff. Sounds an awful lot like "boost" DLC to me. Yuck.

There will also be a "second screen experience" involving an iDROID App for Ground Zeroes, which functions as Big Boss' in-game communicator and map. It'll available on Android, iOS, and Xbox Smart Glass, and it'll allow you to summon air support, play cassette tapes, or view the in-game map.

Finally, Konami has confirmed that the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Ground Zeroes will get retail discs, and they'll launch for $29.99 (the same as the digital price) -- inline with the 360 and PS3 retail pricing. You'll also be able to grab the game on PS3 and 360 digitally for $19.99.

Destructoid recently had a few hands-on articles about the game.

Gameplay has been overhauled a lot and closer to modern action games than traditional MGS games.

Snake primarily does his shooting in third-person, with the left trigger letting him aim more closely, in a fashion that should be familiar to us at this point. To switch into first-person, it's a matter of tapping the R1 button while aiming. The weapon selection and item management has been relegated to the D-pad. The health gauge is gone, and Snake will recover automatically as long as he stays out of harm’s way for a moment. Basically, the same regenerative health system you’ll find in most modern action games.

Along with the health gauge and dual scrolling inventory slots, another thing absent from the HUD is anything resembling soliton radar or active sonar. Tracking guards now depends on tagging them, either by spying on them through binoculars, or by hovering the reticle on them long enough while in range. After doing this, a flag will appear above their heads. It’s very similar to the system in Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry 3. Once tagged, the exact position of enemies can be seen on the map, accessible from Snake’s iDroid device.

Snake also has a few new moves that feel more actiony than stealthy, the open world setting has a bunch of trade-offs, and no MGS type boss fights or moments in Ground Zeroes. Codec conversations happen during real-time and no longer stop the gameplay or are separate scenes.

Also turns out the trailer for Phantom Pain last year spoiled a lot about Ground Zero after their recent hands-on session.

http://www.destructoid.com/watch-metal-gear-solid-v-ground-zeroes-get-beaten-in-10-minutes-272110.phtml

Destructoid broke down a few things the game contains along with the series tradition of lengthy cutscenes and tapes making up the bulk of the playthrough time.

Ground Zeroes ships with one main story mission (named after the title), with a lengthy duo of intro and conclusion cutscenes. The average playthrough of this mission will take anywhere from one to two hours, and consists of two sole objectives that are very straightforward. That's it.

With full leaderboard support, hardcore fans will go nuts over the chance to do everything better than their friends. This is anything from "longest sniper headshot" to "longest time spent on two wheels with a jeep," and Ground Zeroes basically tracks everything you can think of. The signature "grade" based ranking system is also still here, which rewards you for not using some of the new mechanics and completing a mission without being seen.

There are only a few extra missions on offer outside of the story, including a VIP assassination level, a fetch quest, and the destruction of anti-aircraft guns. These all take place in the same sandbox as the main mission, albeit during different times of day.
http://www.destructoid.com/here-s-everything-you-can-do-in-metal-gear-solid-v-ground-zeroes-272076.phtml

For those interested in the PS4 (and PS3) version and like platinum trophies, the game doesn't contain them due to a Sony rule stating non-full price games can't have those types of trophies.
The reason GZ doesn't have Platinum Trophy in PS4 is due to SONY's regulation. They won't allow us to have them for non-full price game.

Part of that is due to the Sony and Microsoft exclusive missions, which see classic Snake and Raiden sneaking around respectively.
