View Full Version : Eve BOTCHED!!

Let's face it: Kaitlyn's title shot for Layla El's Divas Championship at the upcoming Night of Champions pay-per-view is, on paper, a bit of a head-scratcher.

Kaitlyn, who became the No. 1 contender by winning a Divas Battle Royal two weeks ago on Raw after she outed top heel Eve, simply isn't ready for a major singles match on pay-per-view. She tries, and could one day be a decent performer, but at this point, she's too inexperienced and uncoordinated in the ring to be any good. Half the time she looks totally lost in there.

Nor has she really been pushed in the title scene at all. Indeed, she's spent so long languishing on the little-watched NXT, many fans aren't even sure who she is.

(Kaitlyn, real name Celeste Bonin, did win season three of NXT two years ago, thanks partly to her geeky, down-to-earth charisma and stunning good looks, but has been steadily neglected by the booking team ever since, with the company seemingly having no clue what to do with the former model and bodybuilder).

It's even more mind-boggling when we consider that, in the storyline, both Layla and Kaitlyn are babyfaces, making the dynamic of their match more than a little odd.

It makes so little sense, many have wondered if their was more to the story and, as it turns out, there was.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez touched on the circumstances behind the puzzling storyline on last night's episode of (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Radio when discussing the mediocre Eve-Kaitlyn match, claiming a huge botch in the battle royal led to Kaitlyn being awarded the title shot at the Night of Champions event. In today's daily update over at F4Wonline.com, Bryan Alvarez expanded on the matter more:

As noted on last night's Observer Radio, the entire reason for the Kaitlyn push of late was a screw-up in the women's No. 1 contender battle royal last week. Eve was supposed to win but missed the apron on a clothesline spot and landed on the floor. That was why there was confusion immediately afterward and Layla had a look of shock on her face. Based on Raw last night, it's possible Eve will end up getting the match with Layla back, or they'll switch it to a three-way. Presumably we'll find out on Smackdown or next week.

Considering Kaitlyn's lack of experience, the addition of the talented Eve at NOC would likely be a huge boon to the bout, and go some way toward correcting the botch of the battle royal. Certainly, Eve vs. Kaitlyn vs. Layla would be a far more smoother match than Kaitlyn vs. Layla, which has the potential to be truly awful.

Well no wonder Layla had a look on her face like..

Not much of a Kaitlyn fan here-in regards to her wrestling or looks-well I'm not much of a fan of the diva division period. LOL DISCUSS!

... it's the diva's title. Do you realize how many random women have gotten a shot at the divas title on PPV? It's not like it takes years of "perfecting your art".

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Eve did botch it and they basically said "Whatever. Let's put the other broad in the title match instead." That's how insignificant the challenger to the diva's title is. Literally any diva could have won that battle royal and it wouldn't have been a huge shocker to see them face Layla for the title.

The only thing Eve botched was getting clotheslined over the top rope.

Kaitlyn has been appearing on Raw for a few weeks now. It seems like the guys in the back are slowly building her up and giving her some exposure on the main shows and even a PPV, which she won at.

I'm sure Layla's shocked face was not because it was a botch, but because it was part of the story. She was shocked that Kaitlyn won. Even Cole said it was a shocker that Kaitlyn won, and right he was. Eve was the more experienced one out of the final two and is even a former Diva's Champion, she was expected to win, but she lost to a diva who is still pretty much a rookie and has only recently been appearing on the main shows. That's why Layla was shocked.

I really doubt it was a botch.

Might explain why her elimination looked a bit awkward from how she landed. She probably was meant to stay on the apron from the clothesline flip and instead slipped or mistimed which caused one foot to hit the floor.

WWE could have easily fixed that mistake if they really cared about Eve vs Layla at NoC ppv by having a match where Eve puts her assistant GM job and Katlyn puts her title shot in a winner takes all match.

I love Kaitlyn. I am pro-Kaitlyn in regards to the "Platinum Butterfly™" Championship.

Meh, Cena and Batista fucked up the end of a Royal Rumble and caused Vince to tear both quads. This is pretty paltry compared to that.

Maybe the WWE wanted to spice up the division instead of having just one person winning matches.

And it really plays into Eve's character to lose a match and show "respect" afterwards. OMG character development in the women's division?!??!

The shocked look on Layla's face looked pretty exaggerated if you ask me Kaitlyn is just as capable as the average Diva usually when they book two faces against one another that's usually a sign one's turning heel.

I am thinking Layla will go after Eve for acting like a good girl when she is just being fake. This causes Kaitlyn, and the other divas, to unfriend Layla and helps propel Eve with Layla being depressed.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Off topic comment:

Although Eve looks extremely "gorgeous" and carries herself quite well, she is not a good wrestler.

Who is this handsome Clark Kent looking referee?

When I watched it, it looked like Eve was supposed to hang on, and then was in shock that it didn't work. Layla had the same look on her face. Now every time they show how Kaitlyn "won" the looks are edited out.

But not a single fuck was given on here, so I figured why should I give one as well?

It really doesn't matter in the "everyone gets a turn" division. Even if it were supposed to go down that Eve won, and beats Layla, she would likely just have ended up feuding with Kaitlyn afterwards anyhow. It doesn't matter how skilled they are in the ring. I mean, Kelly Kelly held the strap for HOW LONG? She's not that great.

And, by the way, Kaitlyn's real name is Celiste Bonin. Also, requisite joke about my penis and "Bonin" here.

There is a finite set of Diva's, so what can you do?

This might be a good thing cause K ate has been getting better.

For me, I think there are better choices. I'm still on the Naomi bandwagon...

i could honestly care less that Eve was supposed to win and it was supposed to be Eve vs Layla and this whole sportsmanship angle probably would have ended in her turning straight heel and winning the title. I'm glad at least WWE took the opportunity assuming that Eve was supposed to win and let Kaitlyn to run with the ball and have a chance to showcase what she's got. She really hasn't had any long term story lines or exposure since winning NXT 2 years ago. So give her a shot, its at least better I say than continuing to watch the same 3-4 divas in a match.
