I've been watching this on Netflix recently since it was recommended to me a while ago. I'd always dismissed the show as heavily derivative--and it kinda is--but I've found myself enjoying it immensely.

What's even more surprising to me is that while a lot of it seems like a pastiche of other shows from a similar time frame (Including Star Trek: TNG), it also seems like it influenced later sci fi shows, like Stargate SG-1 (not surprising, given the DeLuise connection) and Star Trek Voyager (though it was sort of concurrent).

There were a few really bad episodes (seriously? An evil psychic cloud underwater?), but it's been mostly good shit. Even the few episodes of the last season I've watched so far (Hello there, Mr. Ironsides), even if the politics are kinda silly.

Surprisingly good cast, too. Maybe it's just because I'd written it off as a cheap knockoff all those years ago that I'm surprised, though.

I haven't watched the show since it's original run

Same here. But I did enjoy it at the time. Didn't the ship get abducted by aliens and then was returned to earth many years later? It seemed a bit strange to me.

I used to prefer Thunder in Paradise to it when it was on over here, Saturday mornings.

I was thinking of giving it another go, but think I have Atlantis to watch first.

Darwin was the coolest thing ever on that show.

Totally sucked when Mike Ironside got brought in as the hard-ass captain.

They pretty much did. Everybody literally "jumped ship" since NBC, the cast, and producers were pretty much butting heads over the direction of the show.
