Just some stuff I always wondered about and this isn't anything personal just some thoughts-

There is so many new and local bands around, catering to some scene and even though many of them play dime-a-dozen music they are skilled enough to write songs and play on stage but yet many new and local bands seem to lack the will to be creative. They just seem to enjoy playing the music that they already like or grew up on, but what's the point? Ban
ds who do something unique style wise deserve the attention more than bands who just play "what they like". There's nothing wrong with being influenced by genres and styles- at all. But it's boring if you just decide to be version 2 of that band, a heavier, faster version.. because another hundred bands already did that. Why not experiment more? Why limit yourself to one or two styles? From my understanding the main goal is to express yourself and bring new melodies and sounds to the world, and not be worried about opinions.

Don't you think if bands do something new and crazy or weird, more people would care? I mean there's bands I love but when I hear other bands who pretty much almost copied that style, I just feel like what's the point?

I understand what you're saying, but people can only do so much.

Put yourself in that position. What amazing ground-breaking idea do you have that would be so totally 100% unique? Chances are, it isn't.

Doesn't have to be ground breaking, just seeing a thousand Slayer like bands and them being so proud of it, that's the confusion I have. Yeah, they play good but it's nothing worth investing in unless you're friends with a band or something. These days they book bands based on knowing people more than the band actually being interesting, at least from my friends band experiences.

I actually do make music for fun, I'm not a musician traditionally and when I want work on a track I don't sit there and say "I love this band so I want play the same genre".

These bands have the talent to play sub genres of music, so why not utilize more gear and instruments? The problem I'm talking about is some bands are dead set on catering to their fan base and the idea of adding different elements to their sound is usually boo'ed upon by people who are into that scene because it's not true to the roots.

Again, it's just not that simple.

I totally get what you mean, though. I go to small, local gigs all the time and always come out thinking how every band sounded the same as every other band. But on the other hand, you could have Slayer Band #24353 spice things up with new instruments and experimenting with different sub-genres, but then they'll still end up sounding like another band.

It sounds like you're just fed up with going to local shows where every band sounds the same. I get that, every metal gig I went to when I was in England was like that. Band after band of Drop C-Tuned guitars, with growling vocals that nobody understands, where the main weight of the music didn't come from the music itself, but how many blast beats the drummer can throw in, and how fast the guitarists can pick. Always left me feeling :-\

Yeah, pretty much. I only really like 3 or 4 local bands, the rest are just so plain.

It's the same here in Mumbai as well. But that's how the scene grows. You have bands looking to break in to the scene, and most of these are under pressure to write 'original music'. The first couple of songs you write as a band is going to be a product of your influences - and its only when you go deeper and deeper, and play longer and longer that you find 'your sound' - that sets you apart from all the others.

But most kids and bands don't have the patience or the 'unique' talent or mindset to bring out their own sound from the get go. Instead, i'd say most of them just want to get on stage, rock the fuck out, and live and revel in the spotlight. Fuck the quality of the memorability of the song, they are just happy to be playing on stage, and emulating their idols.

God, i know i did that with the first band i was in. We started off as a Maiden Tribute band, and the first thing we wrote together borrowed all the Maiden staples - the E Minor scale, galloping rhythms, harmonized licks, and a thumping bass line that drove the song ahead. But as we played longer, our songs started reflecting our individual personalities - the bass player was a natural 'funk' dude, our lead guitarist more drawn to classic rock, and the vocalist an Eddie Vedder wannabe. Our songs became less and less NWOBHM, and more and more alt - rock - metal hybrids, which showed some character. But we only reached that stage after we'd played for a good year or so together.

It'll continue to happen. The scene will grow, most of the talent-less or short term clones will get tired and find the next big scene, while the new kids wanting to get in to the scene will replace them. The few that remain will gain some uniqueness, and will become the 3 or 4 local bands actually worth giving a shit about.

The local bands here are amazing, considering the fact that bands all come here to make it big

Checked out that video. Sounds pretty sweet. Reminded me of Melechesh, but definitely dig that vibe man. And that stunt was awesome. I hope they did gain some notoriety after that.

It might have since they actually some MTV interviews online- http://www.mtviggy.com/interviews/nc-shuva-the-pui-tribe-neo-primal-gypsy-metal/

But yeah, Shuva is a really intelligent guy who's into this- you could tell just by watching them live. I never heard them until seeing them headline for other local bands (one I'm friends with) and they blew them all away.

Best part about that whole stunt, they only got fined and not jailed.
