It's a shame. As little as women's wrestling really matters, Beth was by far one of the better talents. She had an intimidating size and physique about her while still being attractive for WWE to push her. Had a pretty interesting character at times too, whenever they bothered to put the effort in.

That said, the lifespan of a diva is usually pretty short anyway and she's done well in her time with them.

Also, her theme was pretty great.

Beth was one of the better female wrestlers who could hold her own, but it seems like she was going through the motions ever since she lost her title.

I will believe it when I see it somewhere reputable.

Not that hard to believe, though.

How tragic.

But seriously- yeah, she was a better wrestler than most of the 'divas' but in the long run it won't be noticed.

As every diva who doesn't hold the title does.

It is a shame though. She could have been very good in a well organized divas division.

Unexpected. I wonder what she has lined up after wwe to make her want to go right now....

Stunned and shocked, but she had a nice, long career. After over a decade of Glam Slamming, she's going Down in Flames of glory.

Probably one of the best female wrestlers in recent times. I hope she achieves whatever she is looking for.

I guess she's settling down with Edge and having some babies.

Almost as shocking as in 1978 when Shinobi Karate Warrior died in that sushi poisoning

Pat Tuscon will debut in tna <s>sometime next</s> later this year...!

... and in some sort of "disguise". And they'll play the "who is this?!?" for weeks. Just like with Victoria (motorcycle helmet). Just like with Shelly Martinez (who is that GUY from LAX who happens to move like a girl and has really huge cans???). Just like they sort-of did with Chyna... sort of. True she wasn't an on-camera tease, and her porn career torpedoed* subsequent appearances after the reveal, but they kept hinting that "some woman" was arriving to balance out the sexes in the Jarrett/Angle/Karen storyline. And with all the hype, you knew it was yet another ex-WWE mystery woman.

*Yes. Pink torpedoed. I made the joke so you don't have to. You're welcome.

The divas division keeps on getting smaller and smaller this year. I think they even might be under 10 divas overall if Kelly Kelly is the next to be gone if NXT isn't counted.

Natalya might be the only one left who is really good in terms of in-ring skills.

Beth had about as long a run as any modern Diva. As long as Lita, Trish and Mickie for sure.

Keep reading the heading as "Breaking News: Beth Phoenix Dies".

I guess she was no longer 'protected' when her and Punks relationship ended.

Retiring to be with a guy who has been married twice. Good luck with that Beth.

probably tired of not getting used..... can't blame her though...... she should have been the face of the division for years.....

Honestly they were probably done with her anyways. She got a great run as champion and was one of the few women to be booked well in 10 years.

Ok. I now believe this news, because it has been reported on PWInsider. It did not mention her retiring, though.

I would like to see her in TNA. Not that I would watch it. I would be happy to hear that she is doing well, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed her work in WWE. The Glamarella stuff was pretty great.

It's going to be a great loss for the WWE women's division, the only actual female wrestler left is Nattie, and she's not being used well, either.

I wonder if this makes WWE think about bringing back Kharma.

Rock Bottom
09-21-2012, 11:15 PM
Beth Phoenix and Kharma both being gone kind of ruined womens' wrestling for me for another five years or so. It used to be semi-ok. These two made everyone think they'd eventually have a feud worth watching on MPPV, then, nothin', and gone. Oh well.

Agree with the above post, and I REALLY enjoyed her matches with Melina who was also gone. I even loved her submission on her when she twisted her leg and her boot almost smashing into her head too..

I also loved the 3 way matches with Melina and Mickie pre-2009 or 2008 I think..

My fave matches:

But really, this is sad news.

She's my favourite current Diva. Even though not a lot of people care about the Divas division, Beth made me care. Whenever she had a match, I'd give it my full attention.

I get the feeling the retirement has something to do with her family. It's just that the news of her retirement is a bit sudden and I remember reading about three weeks ago that she was planning to take a long absence due to a death in her family.

It'll be weird not seeing her around once she retires. The Divas division is pretty much at an all time low now, in my opinion. It's a far cry from the days of Trish, Lita, Jazz, Molly Holly, Victoria and Ivory all on one roster, having great matches.

PWInsider's report said, AND I

Should she decide to work outside of WWE, Phoenix would retain ownership of her ring name, as she used it prior to her WWE run.

Lock Jaw
09-22-2012, 01:12 PM
Don't know how that makes sense, though. Dudley Boys use their ring names prior to their WWE run.

CSL
09-22-2012, 03:13 PM
has nothing to do with using it beforehand, it's all about whether they sign the likeness/rights over upon signing. Wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't the case with Beth given she was a nobody/the name was worth nothing before going there, unlike the Dudleys

Lock Jaw
09-22-2012, 03:28 PM
I guess. It also isn't like they were really pushing Beth Phoenix T-Shirts and Merch or anything.
