I was kinda meh was he came back, but I really like what they are doing with Barrett. I love his new finisher. Ryder sold that like he got shot.

Hopefully this goes somewhere.

His finisher is new, his gimmick is not. He's simply continuing the Barrett Barrage where he left off before his injury.

The gimmick is definitely tweaked. He's got more character to him now. He wasn't this much of a badass fighter type before the injury.

And those fight club promo videos before he returned did wonders for him. WWE has lacked characters with depth so badly. Everyone's generic. Cody had a good thing going with the "disfigured" thing but now he's generic heel #317. I was completely bored with Barrett already but the fact that they gave his character some depth actually has me interested too.

Of course his gimmick has changed he's more gritty than ever he's not about the paycheque anymore it's about kicking ass. Never been a fan of brawler style wrestler that is until Wade Barrett came along but I guess it's because he's done the real thing it makes his punches seem more realistic. Plus he's a great on the mic to boot this guy is a future WHC there's no doubt in my mind it's just a matter of time.

His music sucks dick and needs to be changed back to End of Days or even We Are One. He should do Wasteland as an alternate finisher.

He needs to use the Black Hole Slam more on smaller opponents and make it look as devastating as Abyss does.....

I would say he would definitely need a new finisher. For example... if he were to go over Big Show..... that would be lame if he finished with a short-arm forearm smash :/

Other than that, I think Barrett will be the next big heel, given enough air time. Give him a couple more weeks, say after HIAC, and start a feud for the IC title, just for starters.

Honestly? I don't know.

I read somewhere that the boxer thing was all kayfabe but wiki says otherwise. That said, their citations are based on interviews that seem to be littered with kayfabe answers admittedly based on a skim read).

Barrett's "Souvenir" is similar to Regal's "Power of the Punch" but without the brass knuckles. I agree that he'll need to change up his finishing sequence a bit later on (see Lex Luger's greater success after he changed his running forearm finisher into a mere signature move and began using the torture rack as his finisher), but for now everything about his gimmick serves the purpose.

Barrett did some bare knuckle boxing when he was living in Liverpool. He was probably just trying to fit in.

If Barrett's elbow smash doesn't finish the Big Show, he can wow the crowd by getting him up for the wasteland.

I like that Barrett seems more gritty, but I'm not really into this yet. I guess it's because we haven't really seen him feud with anyone yet. That will come in time. Barrett is a good worker and fantastic on the mic -- don't get me wrong -- I'm just not into his current thing just yet.

Mr. Nerfect

I'd be into Barrett vs. Jericho at WrestleMania next year. Barrett tries to knock of his old NXT Pro. Have Barrett become IC Champion before WrestleMania and throw that title into the mix. Barrett could beat both his Pro and one of the greatest IC Champions of all-time to validate his reign in one big win.

I hope to any god or goddess that there is... I fuckin' LOVED Guts. Better'n American Gladiators ("because they're kids like me!!!" at the time), and right up there with Legends of the Hidden Temple/Finders Keepers!

Nothing tops Double Dare, though. Can't outdo the original.

I like it but would have loved if he kept the jacket with rose since it had an actual meaning from his NXT days as him being the "gentleman" brawler of NXT.

He's still a brawler but now added in the business part to his gimmick with all the product samples he's handed out so far.

Yeah I liked his old entrance attire too and I also wish he'd kept his previous ring gear too find the new one to be a little too generic maybe once he's back in the main event picture they will return ya never know.

This Slicky Tricky Damon - No. 1 WWE Fan confrontation is shaping up to be Feud of the Year!

Back to the point of the thread, the vignettes could have set expectations too high, but Barrett knows how to convincingly punch. It was wise to limit Barrett's faux shoot fighting gimmick to bare knuckle boxing so that he doesn't have to try out MMA holds and make them look convincing (although that could make for a good feud with Lesnar over who has the better kimura, triangle choke, or other MMA hold). I'm starting to "wade" into popping for Barrett!

I'm liking Barret's new gimmick as well, but I think the WWE will need to invest some more time into building him up and/or getting the fans to care about him more.......otherwise, I could see Barret getting lost in the mix.

I think a long standing feud/rivalry with Barret and Sheamus would be the best way to go.

#1-norm-fan
10-14-2012, 12:22 PM
If they're serious about pushing him as a solid main event star, a nice feud with Sheamus based on just brutal brawling and letting him go toe to toe with him but just fall short of winning the title would do wonders for him.

I felt like they should have done the same thing with Tensai when he and Sheamus were showing that they could put on fantastic stiff matches on Raw and Smackdown. Make it a legit feud, give them a 15 minute PPV match and put the title on the line and suddenly Tensai looks like a badass even in a loss.

Ah well. Barrett's got the character to pull off the same effect.
