A-10 preparing to make an offer to the 7 basketball-only schools in the Big East to join them instead of the Big East raiding the A-10 after Temple and Charlotte leave this season. Would end up with 20-21 teams if it does occur.

Big East is rumored to be targeting mostly the big name A-10 schools in order to replace the basketball only and football/basketball schools that are leaving.

UConn is fucked. Kinda hoping either someone picks up the phone and gets them out, or they somehow drop the football program and just go everything else. I know the latter is near impossible, but it took a step back when Edsall bailed.

The Big East aren't going to let UConn leave. They're basically all that's left.

They can go independent, but then they'd have to try to get an at-large bid to the tourney every year.

ACC once again tried to court MSG and Brooklyn's Barclays Center to become their host for future ACC tournament games starting in 2016 but neither were interested. ACC is looking for a 5-year deal for its new host once they move out of Greensboro.

Most likely whichever conference has St Johns will also get MSG considering the historical ties both have together. It was also a huge reason why the Big East had MSG since it formed.

Big East and ESPN agreed to a new tv deal although it ends up being a huge loss to what the Big East could have had 2 years ago. CBS also agreed to extend their basketball deal although it only pays out $2 million per year.

The Big East Conference confirmed Saturday that ESPN has matched a media rights deal offer, keeping the network as the league's primary rights holder.

The deal is for seven years and worth $130 million through the 2019-20 school year, league sources said. The Big East's new deal is worth less per school than its current ESPN deal and six times less than what ESPN presented two years ago.

In the past two years since the Big East turned down ESPN's $1.17 billion offer, the league has had 16 schools either leave or announce they were leaving.

The Big East's new deal is comparable to a new media rights deal the Mountain West signed with CBS Sports Network. Both, however, are substantially less than what the power five conferences -- Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC, Big 12 and ACC -- receive.

A little late but--- Demon Deacons wreck #2 Miami!

I'm a UVa guy, and don't think Miami is all that good. They've been fortunate to stay healthy while all the other good teams in the ACC have dealt with injury (particularly NC State and Duke, I really don't think UNC is that good, either).

I'd say right now Miami is the #4 team in the ACC, if I had a Power Rankings and all teams get the pieces back that they should.

1) NC State (Lorenzo Brown, CJ Leslie have been hurt/sick - but when they're on, forget it. This team will run deep into the tournament)
2) Duke (Ryan Kelly out has hurt a lot. He's back, this team is #2 in the ACC)
3) UVa (Don't sleep on the Cavs. They have had all but 2 of their bigs hurt this year, and both Mike Tobey and Darion Atkins are improving in health each week. They're going to be a tough out in March)
4) Miami (Meh. Don't love them).

The "Catholic 7" schools from the Big East won the rights to keep the conference name once they officially split next season while the current Big East is changing their name. They also managed to get Butler, Xavier, and maybe Creighton to join the new league starting next season. The new league would be carried mainly by Fox Sports Network.

Louisville (Midwest) earned the overall #1 seed. Their bracket has Oregon, OK State, St Louis, Duke, Creighton, and Michigan State for the tough/big names.

Kansas (South) got a #1 seed. Their bracket has UNC, Villanova, VCU, Michigan, Georgetown, Florida, and ULCA for tough/big names.

Indiana (East) also got a #1 seed and only one not to have won their conference tourney. Their bracket has Temple, Syracuse, Miami U, Marquette, and Butler for tough/big names.

Gonzaga (West) took the final #1 seed. Their bracket has Pitt, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Ohio State, and New Mexico for touch/big names.

I picked Illinois to upset Miami. Teams that over perform during the regular season I dont like come tourney time. Not that I like Illinois, but if they make their shots they cant be beat. No inside game. Waffled between Zags and OSU. Told myself I was going to go heavy B1G before the seedings.

L'Ville, Ohio State, Florida, Indiana.

No major upsets for the most part. Belmont, Illinois and Oklahoma in the Sweet 16, Butler to the Elite 8.

Boss of the Pac-12 refs being accused of trying to influence at least two games during this year's PAC-12 tournament with Arizona as the targeted victim team.

Pac-12 coordinator of basketball officials and former NBA referee Ed Rush has been investigated by the Pac-12 for comments made about Arizona coach Sean Miller in meetings that included several Pac-12 referees.

Rush, according to a source within the Pac-12 officiating group, told a group of referees on the Thursday of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas that he would give them $5,000 or a trip to Cancun if they either "rang him up" or "ran him," meaning hit Miller with a technical or toss him out of the game. Rush then reiterated during a Friday morning meeting, according to one referee in attendance, that officials should take similar action against Miller if he did anything on Friday in the Pac-12 semifinals against UCLA.

I hope some of the Louisville magic rubbed off on the Lady Blue Devils. Don't wanna face Notre Dame for a 4th game.

Thank God they're in on it. It's my reason for supporting them right now

When I went to school there I remember the phone book one year had students at a basketball game throwing up the 'shocker' sign.

Remember channel surfing and seeing a local newstation start the hour with 'School Pride or Offensive Gesture. Some would say the line of decency has been crossed. More at ten.'

Would love to see it come down to #9 Wichita St. and #4 Michigan for the national title as opposed to something "YAWN" like #1 Louisville vs. #4 Syracuse.

Only problem is deciding who I want to win IF #9 Wichita State and #4 U-M make it...on the one hand, I think it’d be great to see the Shockers do the penultimate thing and win the national title so nobody could ever again (or at least until next season... :shifty:) accuse them of not living up to their team name. On the other hand I’d love (ironically) to see Michigan pull it off just so Barkley could fuck off with his “The Big Ten is overrated.” BS.

Rutgers AD Defends Rice Decision
Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice is under review by the school's athletic director after a videotape aired showing Rice shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players in practice and using gay slurs.

The videotape, broadcast Tuesday on ESPN's "Outside the Lines," prompted scores of outraged social media comments, as well as sharp criticism from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and NBA star LeBron James.

"I think now that [the videotape] is out there -- we knew it was going to get out there," Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti said during a radio interview with WFAN in New York. "The reaction -- we knew what it was going to be. I need to sit here and think about what gives us the ability to be effective going forward in men's basketball, and more importantly, what protects the university.

"There's a lot of things on my mind right now that I'm thinking through and trying to make sure that whatever decisions I make on a going-forward basis, that we try to make the right one."

Mike Rice's actions weren't fiery. They were abusive, cruel and out of bounds. And it's about time we drew the boundaries, writes Dana O'Neil. Story

This is no longer about just Mike Rice, it's time for the senior administrators at Rutgers to face the firing squad, writes Ian O'Connor. Story

The Associated Press is reporting that Pernetti is reconsidering his decision to suspend Rice instead of firing him.

Pernetti began investigating the incident as early as last summer. He suspended Rice for three games in December, fined him $50,000 and ordered him to attend anger management classes.

Pernetti revealed during the interview that university president Robert Barchi also viewed the tape this past fall and agreed with the punishment. But the "Outside the Lines" broadcast prompted an outcry, led by the governor himself.

"Gov. Christie saw the video today for the first time and he is obviously deeply disturbed by the conduct displayed and strongly condemns this behavior," spokesman Michael Drewniak said in a statement. "It's not the type of leadership we should be showing our young people and clearly there are questions about this behavior that need to be answered by the leaders at Rutgers University."

Christie was not the only elected official to weigh in.

Assembly speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) called Rice's conduct "unacceptable not only at our state university, but in all circumstances. It is offensive and unbecoming of our state.

"Mike Rice should no longer be employed by Rutgers University. He must go. Meanwhile, the decision not to dismiss him last year needs a complete and thorough review."

James weighed in with a tweet: "If my son played for Rutgers or a coach like that he would have some real explaining to do and I'm still gone whoop on him afterwards! C'mon."

Ray Allen, a member of the University of Connecticut's board of directors and James' teammate with the Miami Heat, also reacted angrily after watching the videotape of Rice.

The reaction -- we knew what it was going to be. I need to sit here and think about what gives us the ability to be effective going forward in men's basketball, and more importantly, what protects the university. There's a lot of things on my mind right now that I'm thinking through and trying to make sure that whatever decisions I make on a going-forward basis, that we try to make the right one.

-- Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti to WFAN regarding Mike Rice's future at the school
"It was despicable," Allen told ESPN.com. "Throwing the ball at them -- it made me want to fight [Rice]. It made me want to fight this guy. Because that was me -- wanting to learn, making mistakes.

"You're not doing it on purpose. You're trying to learn. And that's what coaches should do -- you teach. Yelling at kids and throwing the ball at them, there's no place to that."

Allen also said he would try to get Rice fired had the incidents occurred at UConn.

"I would do everything I could to make sure that coach got fired -- in any sport -- because there's no place for that," he said.

Rice, hired by Pernetti three years ago, is 44-51 at Rutgers, including 16-38 in the Big East, after going 73-31 in three seasons at Robert Morris. The Scarlet Knights went 15-16 this season and 5-13 in the Big East.

Pernetti told WFAN that he understands why many are asking why Rice wasn't fired after the initial investigation.

"I spent more time with that option on whether we should fire Mike or not than any other option," Pernetti said. "At the same time, the results of the investigation and where we ended up, the determination was made to suspend him.

"My biggest concern as the AD is that I am always trying to protect the interests and reputation of the university, and that's what makes this one so difficult. There is a lot of hindsight, 20-20, that will be that there will be no other option than to terminate Mike. I made that decision. I am accountable for it. I have to live with it."

Rice was Pernetti's first major hire after getting the AD's job.

"In the end, I am not going to look back and say shoulda, woulda. All I can do is figure out going forward the decisions I can make to fix the problem for Rutgers," Pernetti told WFAN.

ESPN.com's Tom Haberstroh and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
