View Full Version : What if: Cena is legitimately injured now?

So let's say John Cena's injury is legit and he's out for a long time, maybe a year (or at least 5-6 months) meaning he'll not only miss Wrestlemania but WWE will be lacking their 'top star' now for quite a while.

If you were Vince McMahon, what would you do?

Well if he was out I have no doubt he'd still do Wrestlemania. But for the sake of conversation...

I'd have Cena play a character like Austin did when Owen broke his neck... I'd probably make him the GM of Raw or Smackdown!

I'd push Randall Orton as the top babyface, along with Ryback, Sheamus and The Miz as seconds... they would work with Big Show, Ziggler, and CM Punk.

It would be a blessing honestly... But we need Cena at WM let's not kid ourselves.

I'm pretty sure Vince would just make one quick phone call

It's not like he's carrying the company right now. He's in a throwaway angle with an evil authority figure and just got done serving as a nutsack appendage in the main event of a Big 4 PPV. Film a few vignettes and have him heal up. The company will go on without him until he's ready to come back.

It's a shame, but I think they'd cope.

Orton's still a draw, Ryback's on his way up, HHH could step in and The Rock and Lesnar are waiting in the wings. Add CM Punk to the mix and you've got enough top line talent to see through Wrestlemania season.

WWE survived (and you could argued thrived) without Stone Cold Steve Austin or Undertaker for a year and it helped cement Rock and Triple H as guys "at that level".

The Rock was already a huge star, but if Austin hadn't taken that year off I do not know if The Rock would have become utter phenomenon he became with the movies, etc. because Stone Cold was always "the man" and everybody knew it. That time away allowed The Rock to fill that role and become a guy who is now on the Mt. Rushmore of pro wrestling.

I'd give Austin creative control and a blank cheque.....

Really push more of the younger or mid-tier guys to fill in the void and then keep their development/push strong even once Cena is back. Take the ratings and/or buyrate hit for the short term in order to be better prepared for the long term (post-Cena era).

More depth at the main event scene would be nice so that the WWE has more options than always relying on Cena or the only big feud possible being Punk vs Cena (vs Ryback recently). Also gives Cena more chances at rest which will benefit him and the WWE until the next "Cena" is found.

I don't think him missing a Wrestlemania would be the end of the world though, or him working it if he was legit injured just for the sake of it, not like 'Mania would flop without him.

Ootin, what the fuck are you talking about? I'm talking about in 2000 when Undertaker and Austin both missed WrestleMania and were basically out for a year.

From a mark stand point you see Cena vs Dolph on paper you know Cena will win. If Cena has a "knee injury" the Mark thinks "Oh my cena could lose".

Dolph getting a pin victory over Cena regardless helps him out a ton. Although if he loses to Cena now it would look pretty bad.

Which is why elevating him would actually make more sense, since it wouldn't matter if he won or lost.

I dunno, don't think it was a work tbh.

Obviously even if Cena is out of the ring for a while, he will still be on TV. Besides, his personality is what sells him, so as long as he is involved somehow, things will be fine as far as WWE is concerned.

This actually gives them a good oppurtunity with Ziggler by having him go over Cena completely clean and without struggling to do so. Sets up a return rematch for himself and Cena, going over clean (cuz face it, alot of times something shady happens in his matches somewhere that helps him) makes it look like he didn't need his full bag of tricks to top Cena in this condition so it doesn't cheapen his win per se, and it doesn't hurt Cena in the slightest.

Basically, play this out like its a legit injury for once and not a work. Even if it is a work, damn it.

Another thought I had involved the WWE using this to turn Dolph somewhat face. Have him refuse to fight Cena on the basis that he doesn't want a cheap win. He wants to fight Cena on equal terms to prove he is the better man. Then slowly build into a tweener face/heel, someone who may be a dick and treat others like steaming dook, but who also does what is right for the most part and keeps it fair, never using dirty tactics to win.

It could help to fill the void that Cena would leave in terms of having top faces to actively wrestle.

Watching Ziggler's entrances lately....he needs more pyro.

And keep using that Superkick, that had me marking the fuck out at Survivor Series.

Actually - this isn't a bad idea IMO.....not bad at all......and here's why:

We've never seen HHH vs. The Rock at Wrestlemania......one on one.

I think it would be pretty cool if Triple H was a surprise entrant at the rumble, won the rumble, and then faced The Rock at Wrestlemania for the title.......in a loser must retire match.

The Rock goes over. Triple H on the other hand, silences his critics for good.

If Cena is healthy however, I'd have HHH face Lesnar.

I think Triple H/Dolph Ziggler to cement Ziggler in the main event would be awesome.
