Chris Weidman out of UFC 155 bout
Updated: November 21, 2012, 5:11 PM ET
By Franklin McNeil | ESPN.com

Middleweight contender Chris Weidman suffered a right shoulder injury during a training session and will not fight Tim Boetsch on Dec. 29.

Weidman, who confirmed the injury Wednesday, was scheduled to face Boetsch at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. Boetsch will now fight Constantinos Philippou on the card.

Newsday.com reported Weidman's injury earlier.

"I hit a double-leg and landed weird and hard on my shoulder, and it popped," Weidman told ESPN.com. "I had an MRI on it. I tore my labrum, and I could have a separation. There could be some other things, but we haven't heard back from the doctor. The radiologist told us all that much so far.

"It looks like I'm going to need surgery. It's my right shoulder."

The injury could not have come at a worse time for Weidman. Three weeks ago his home on Long Island was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. He's been on an emotional roller coaster the past few weeks, he said.

"I go up and down from being depressed about it to being optimistic," Weidman said, "with Hurricane Sandy happening, then this. The good thing is I get to focus on my family throughout the holidays. The bad thing is that I'm going to have to have surgery and miss on the fight of my life.

"The one thing I did not want to happen, and was scaring me this whole camp, was for me to get hurt. I need the money with everything that went on with Hurricane Sandy. That (money) was going to be used when I got that fight right at the end of the year."

Weidman, who is ranked second by ESPN.com among 185-pound fighters, has a professional record of 9-0. His name is constantly mentioned as the man likely to get a title shot against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Silva, however, is expected to face welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in a non-title superfight that is being targeted for May.

Weidman cemented himself as the consensus top middleweight contender on June 11 with a second-round knockout of Mark Munoz. The only other middleweight contender being mentioned for a title shot is Michael Bisping.

Despite this recent setback, Weidman remains confident that he will become champion someday.

"I'm going to make the best of it, and hopefully it will be a blessing in disguise," Weidman said. "One way or another, I'm going to get that belt."

Munoz??

I agree with Kris P Lettus that Cain will go over JDS.

I think JDS is a slightly better fighter than Cain, but Cain will be way more determined this time around......and will defeat JDS out of sheer will.

I'm going jds. The way he fights doesn't leave many openings for Cain.

Kris P Lettus
12-19-2012, 08:23 PM
JDS said that he thinks Bigfoot will beat Overeem.. He also said that he respects Cain cause they (JDS and Cain) are both made in the gym, while Overeem was made in a lab..

Pretty much talking shit to him about failing that T:E test..

I'm ordering this btw. I think Cain is going to crush this dude. I really thing he didnt realize what he was getting into the first fight and now he knows and he'll be smarter and tougher and JDS will fall hard.

Cain vs. JDS is probably the most intriguing match up this year because it really feels like it could go either way. Really looking forward to it. I'm lukewarm on the rest of the card though.

Miller/J-Lau and Belchar/Okami will both be good..

I might pay for one of those HD streams for Lauzon/Miller and the HW fight. Belcher/Okami doesn't do it for me. Yeah I know Belcher gets KOs, but I'm not interested in seeing him fight Okami. Tim Boetsch does nothing for me, even though Philippou might make it a good scrap.

It's not a bad card by any means, it's just not a card I'd pay $60 for.

There's something about UFC heavyweight fights that get me hyped every time. Can't wait for this.

BTW, my dream commentary team would be a three man booth consisting of Mauro Ranallo, Rogan and Pat Miletich/Chael Sonnen. I'm used to Pat on the SF cards, but I really like Chael on FX/Fuel prelims when he's not doing his gimmick.

Lauzon is the most exciting fighter in the UFC.....the way he laced up that heel hook in the last round was beautiful, even better than Palhares...

Can't believe JDS lasted the distance too, after R1 he looked gassed and I thought Cain would GNP him to death, what a chin and to keep getting up was tons of heart.

Okami pissed me off with his stifling tactics though, Belcher got screwed IMO. Speaking of screwed  at the judge who gave Guillard a shutout

NoJabbaNoBogRoll
12-30-2012, 02:07 AM
Leonard Garcia got screwed.
It's about time he got screwed. He hasn't legitimately won a fight since 2008, which means he should've had 10 losses in a row heading into this fight.

Kris P Lettus
12-30-2012, 09:17 AM
Lauzon is a animal.. Leban looked pedestrian.. Guilliard had plenty of chances where he had Varner rocked but it was like he wouldn't storm in for the kill.. Cain looked amazing and if Overeem beats Bigfoot, Cain vs Reem will be huge.. Fucking Thunder with the wrestlefuck..

Who can take a better punch JDS, Brad Pickett, or Lauzon??

Next Big Thing
12-30-2012, 09:25 AM
Deep down, I think Overeem wants no part of Cain Velasquez. I don't think Overeem has the heart or chin that JDS does and if Cain goes into mauler mode like he's been his last two fights, I think he'll win via TKO fairly early. The buildup/anticipation would be huge though.

It was kind of scary seeing Cain do pretty much whatever the hell he wanted against JDS. I think the only guy who could compete with a healthy Cain might be Daniel Cormier and I think Cormier will probably try to cut to LHW now that Cain is champ.

Kris P Lettus
12-30-2012, 09:32 AM
After 155 these are the things I think should happen:

Okami vs Wiman (Wiman's wrestling could stuff Okami's shot)

Wineland vs the winner of Benavedez/McCall

Belchar vs Lombard (both like to stand and bang)

JDS vs Cormier (Cromier is Cain's training partner and could easily do what Cain did to JDS, but I feel like it would be a good way to introduce him to the UFC fans)

Miller should get the winner of Cerrone/Pettis

Varner should fight Yves Edwards

Leban should fight a treadmill..

Kris P Lettus
12-30-2012, 09:34 AM
p.s. STFU Savior, Jon Anik is awesome and I didn't miss Goldy a single bit..

Also, Cormier was awesome on the pre and post fight show.. He is really god on the mic with his analysis.. Can't wait for him to come over full time once that last Strikforce show is done..

Cain reminded me so much of Randy Couture with his single and his clinch is was unreal..
